Valve is working on multiple projects right now

Not news, Valve is always developing new games.
It's just that most don't go very far before being canned, and there is no pressure to finish it. Having high standards means they hesitate to announce a new game.

Sometimes I wish Valve/Steam would fully embrace being a platform instead of just a store and a company that sometimes releases games.

Imagine a E3 Valve presentation where they drop a Portal 3 reveal trailer along with all the great upcoming games on Steam.

Then I remember that not following standard models is part of why they're successful, so I'm like "Meh".

Still want Portal 3 tho...

That has to be one of the worst, least insightful thread titles ever: "Large Company is busy working on stuff" ...you don't say.

You might as well have said "Valve's a company that makes things"

Would love Valve to come back with L4D3 and show all these lame copycat games how it's done

Semi-unpopular opinions perhaps, but I hate Valve's heavy focus on multiplayer. They are one of the greatest single-player developers in the history of the genre, so it was disappointing to me to watch them waste years of effort and resources on multiplayer gaming and so infrequently give us a new entry on the level of Portal 2 or Alyx.

Yeah, you're not wrong. Just feels like those days are so long gone that I don't expect anything but MP games. It's wild how popular their ancient multiplayer games still are. Tons of people are still playing TF2.

Maybe Alyx will get a sequel whenever they drop a new headset.

Does valve knows how to count 3? They know how to make games. But for some reason, they don't know how to count to 3.

portal VR = Portal Vomit Rollercoaster
I'm ready 🎢

I'm sure they can rethink Portal's interactions to fit the world of VR. For comparison with Alyx: it is certainly not the case that they simply turned on VR for Half Life and left the gameplay intact. On the contrary, Alyx had to rethink combat completely in order to make it enjoyable in VR, and they made some clever moves with taking advantage of existing ideas in the franchise (gravity gun) to rework them in a way which serves the VR experience (gravity gloves).

With Portal, they'd need a similar rethink. Certainly motion is the most complex part to pull off for it, but perhaps they could do something like FOV-reduction when you're shooting through a portal--which is very effective at permitting fast motion in VR without any disorientation / nausea--and make that tunnel-effect an integral part of how portals pull things through their vortex, so that it just feels natural in the same way that it feels natural to grab everything with the gravity gloves in Alyx.

they got a hardware to sell so yeah they are going to finish their games.

Work on != releasing.

Hell, this is Valve.

Finishing and ready to ship != releasing.

Evidence: Half Life 3 has been finished since 1993.
