Vampire - The Masquerade Bloodlines Thread

Picked this game up when it first came out last fall, and wasn’t really able to get to it till now.

I think im half way through the game so far (tracking down the nosferatu in Hollywood).

And I must say I really do enjoy it.

It’s like the developers (the now dead Troika Games), played the hell out of Deus Ex 1 because this game basically feels like a Deus Ex (1) game set in a gothic/horror/modern day vampire background.

Each mission has different ways to finish the goal (like deus ex, using stealth, shortcuts, hacking, persuasion, out right force etc)

They only knocks I have against the game is the piss poor performance (it was bad when I first got it and it still chugs sometimes on a 6800 gt, 3ghz 2 gig of ram system) which is odd because it uses the source (hl2 engine). And the fact that since it is a Troika Game there are some bugs on missions (keep those saves handy!)

But as for story, voice acting, and immersion, I can’t get enough

Anyone else try it out?

Yes, my only complaint too.. shame too cause I wish more people played it.
Deus Ex is one of the few FPS Games I ever finished, same with this game :D

I loved it an played through twice and reinstalled it a few days ago. As you mentioned the engine is slow and buggy (planetvampire.com is as good a place as any to grab the user-made patch) but on the whole Bloodlines is an excellent game. The characters alone could have sold me on the game.

without going into spoilers cabbage

is there more than one ending?

and can certain choices really change how the story unfolds?

slight spoiler
For Example:If you "choose" Jeanette over Terease, you can bonk her later on

and here is a cool vampire site i found

was the masquerade game any good? looks like hack n slash

Your spoiler question may actually be loaded. What exactly do you mean? I just want to make sure I don't spoil anything for you. :)

As for multiple endings? Yes. Maybe four in all? Whatever the case, as you've mentioned, there are multiple ways to solve situations which adds replay, plus the ending warrents a second playthrough so you can see the story a bit more clearly. If you are not playing as a Malk, use that for your second character. :)

I played Masquerade and thought it was decent when it first came out. After Bloodlines, I ended up buying it again and actually enjoyed the second play through far more. It is hack and slash but the story covers enough space and time to be interesting and the romance bit really works.

EDIT: My brain must be off. You quoted "choose" so I'm guessing you already know.
You can resolve the situation by having one "kill" the other (stop now if the quotes there don't make sense), have the two coexsist, or - with a charasmatic and seductive character that says nothing but nice things about/to Jeanette - help "comfort" Jeanette later in the game.

This game would really have been something if Troika could program worth a shit. The bugs and performance issues are absurd and hurt an otherwise solid title. The missions in this game were pretty enjoyable, especially the haunted hotel quest.

This game literally has no polish to it at all. It has many bugs. And despite a great ending, the end game is an absolute trainwreck. That said...

IT'S AWESOME!

Bloodlines was one of my top 5 game experiences of '04

It is the closest thing I've played to Deus Ex since Deus Ex.

The writing and voice acting are top-notch most of the time. There is some extremely clever dialouge in this game.

A player can get into it so deep, that nothing else matters. I remember the week when I went through it, all day I all I could think about was getting back home to play it. But I go a big boner for vampire stuff, so, YMMV.

Great great game. Good script, really well voice acted and while the plot wasn't anything more than ok the world that was created and the characters that inhabited it were top notch. Amazing pacing and variety of missions
haunted hotel, BRAAAINS! etc.
, until the horrific end game of course, which I cheated through.

Gameplay wise it was like a less balanced and less thought out Deus Ex, which is still pretty decent. The only game that has better dialogue options than this is Planescape Torment.

Completely buggy mess though.

i enjoyed the game alot too... if only it came out in a decent condition, it could have kept troika afloat possibly

it really annoys me how it doesnt support widescreen at all however, while hl2 does without a problem

Ah, yes. I enjoyed the game too - it's one of my most memorable gaming experiences ever, and I've been gaming for nearly 30 years.

Have to play through again sometime. So sweet.
