It’s good for the industry that Microsoft have a holiday season, but they are going to need far more than two games to make a comeback.

Hopefully, they do.

Article paid for by M$ there is no other explanation, it cannot be so far from reality for free, then the official sales figures will arrive and it will be a massacre in favor of PS5, the same as always.

It's funny how they always take a period that interests them for comparisons and forget about everything that PS5 has and not Xbox (Helldivers 2, FF7 Rebirth, Wukong, Silent Hill2, Astrobot, etc...) most of it goty material.

Whoever wrote that article should be embarrassed, life as an Xbox fan hasn’t been fun lately, gears of war games are hard to come by and they’re waiting for Halo to rescue them just like every generation.

Those are pretty good numbers for early access of a game that is also available on gamepass, imo. Especially since it's not even the weekend yet.
No, they are not. If Starfield is anything to go by it sold nearly x100 copies in early access. If this is anywhere close to that situation it might be close to twice what is doing right now and that's... dunno.

MS really still pays the dying traditional media to print propaganda in 2024

Is there anybody besides a couple thousand people in Hollywood who even reads Variety
It really has to be the case(your first point). IGN the other day on their next gen podcast show ranked Xbox over PS for 2024. They said there was no reason to purchase a PlayStation over an xbox this holiday season because Xbox had the biggest games of the season so it negates Astro Bot, hell divers, stellar blade, ronin, and FF VII rebirth which are all basically exclusive to the console and released in the last couple of months.

In fact they ended up getting bombarded with negative responses in the comments section, because it’s not about whether or not ur a ps fanboy. It’s the fact they are objectively wrong and showing some weird bias. Even the host of the podcast was a bit shocked to hear the PS guy and Xbox guy just saying yea Xbox is the way to go.

Def has to either be some incredibly tone death stuff or money hattin involved.

I have no skin in this game, but I find it hilarious that every single time this happens, there are excuses.

“Oh, people are still at work”
“People are sleeping”
“It’s not the weekend”
Not really an excuse. Yeah the final picture might be the same but atleast wait a week or two before taking a decision. Indiana jones seems like the type of game that gets better sales in week 2 as compared to week 1 due to good word of mouth. MS was weirdly silent and didn't really advertise the game so week 1 doesn't seem like it will have good sales. Not to mention it is not even been one weekend with early access just starting.

Doesn’t look like a standard PC and it boots into Steam and I only use a controller. The user experience is extremely close to how it is using a console.

He would never be able to set that up. Therefore everyone who can is into "personal calculators". Stop making sense, he hates it.

Anyway, glad this is on PC because I wouldn't have bothered on my Series S.

Makes the score for Indiana jones even more suspicious if you ask me.

Im not even going to waste my time reading that. I understand having pride in American products and nationalism or whatever, but where was this article for Playstation when they have console exclusives like Stellar Blade, Black Myth Wukong, Rise of Ronnin, Astro Bot, FF Rebirth, Silent Hill 2, or Helldivers, etc? The biggest games for Xbox will probably give more momentum to Playstation. 😄

Agreed. It's pretty pathetic.
Just play the fucking games you enjoy where you want to play them.

Edit.aaaaand the first post to quote yours illustrates your points perfectly.
Yeah. For some reason it suggests this is all about "bragging-rights" as if that's what this is about. It's a completely cuckoo mindset, and it's for shame that some people apparently adopt it and auto-run their bot-scripts without any critical thinking.

You're not wrong. There is such a clear bias in the media right now that's clearly designed to prolong the "console war" clickbait culture.

You have to at least wonder whether grades are now being inflated to go along with it.

The problem though, is that it's entirely too late. The core people who read sites like IGN? They've already purchased a console this generation. Articles like this one have next to no effect on the real business end of the industry.

These articles don't have near the measure of impact that forums think they do. No one cares and no one is buying consoles based on articles like these. No one runs to Variety to make their decisions.

By the end of Sony's next fiscal year, they're going to have close to 95 million units sold worldwide and the Xbox Series will be lucky to have 35 million units sold. Nearly 3:1 ratio of units sold. It's the most dominant split we've seen since the PS2...

It's a true statement, except for the fact that Call of Duty is on PS5, Indiana Jones is on PS5 and Xbox is nowhere near being "pushed ahead of PS5".

Everything else is accurate though.

Another retarded journalist doing retarded shit.
Another shill* journalist doing shill* work.

The game hasn't even fully released yet. The reviews are out for 1 day. And they had the article drafted, edited, approved, and ready to go live :D They are so obvious. They absolutely had it prepared beforehand because the idea is to shill. This is paid advertising.

This is a joke article right?

And quite frankly, I don't believe the review scores for Indiana Jones. In fairness I've never had any interest in the Indy game and wouldn't play it even if I did have game pass.

But the people reviewing this game are the same people gave Concord 7's and told us Dragon Age was a "return to form" for Bioware. These same people also refused to review Hogwarts Legacy last year because of some made up controversy they created from their own deranged mental illness.

Game reviewers and game journalists aren't real journalists or a real profession. They're uneducated high school losers who deserve to be stuffed in their lockers masquerading as alleged intellectuals despite not even being able to define what a chick is. Clown world.

Path Of Exile 2 really is the elephant in the room, right now.

Also, objectively speaking, launching a big game like Indiana Jones in early December is fairly anomalous. Its generally considered a bad idea to launch this late in the year; I mean its hard to maximize impact when there's so much else competing for the holiday spend. Its interesting because it more than anything shows where MS's thinking is at.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Enlighten us, please. What is it about? What is the author trying to say exactly? By which metric Xbox will push ahead of PlayStation and Nintendo this Holiday season?

The momentum has put Xbox in front of longtime rival PlayStation. “From a pure content perspective, we must conclude that Microsoft’s portfolio is now quite a bit stronger than Sony’s,”

Between CoD and Indy, the Xbox brand's holiday content portfolio *is* stronger. You don't really need to be a blue boy or a green bean to see that.

Nowhere in the article does it talk about hardware sales, which most people just reacting off of the headline seem to jump to.

lol no. This article isn't just about a subjective view of the author about which company has better content. He is specifically talking about sales. Maybe not console sales necessarily, but definitely software sales.

"In the fourth quarter of 2024, when consumers largely look to buy and gift AAA titles, there’s no new generation of consoles — usually the driving force behind game purchases — on the market. And Xbox is in the best position to get the Christmas cash with the Dec. 9 launch of “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle,” the industry’s biggest new game of the year."

Since you agree with this post completely, do you think:
  • Indiana Jones will be the best selling game this Holiday season?
  • And, Indiana Jones is the biggest new game of the year?
Let us know. We'll be able to verify this in software sales charts later.

I read that and laughed. It's mental gymnastics by the author. I recognize both of those games are currently only on Xbox, but no one will pay for them on Xbox since they're on game pass. Whereas people will pay for games on PS such as Stellar Blade, FF7 Rebirth, Black Myth Wukong etc, even at discounted prices to catch up on what they missed this year.

It's a stupid article and a stupid premise.

The driving force behind game purchases is a new generation that happens every seven years or so? That's a weird take.

And? Most people don’t associate COD with MS, it has had minimal effect on Xbox services or hardware and Indiana Jones is a dead franchise.

Why compare to other platform holders? Might as well compare MS to other third party publishers.

It read like a shilling piece to me. The argument doesn't make sense. With the irony being that the two franchises its using to convey Xbox flex, are both already on, or going to be on PlayStation.
