The reason he uses those words is that they are already ingrained into his speech and he is too weak to try and change it. He doesn't see a problem with that because those words don't affect him. He is not some kind of moral hero trying to defang these words, the only thing he does is normalize those words and indirectly normalize the ideas behind those words.

I agree. That video that was recently slurped up over in Reddit where he straight up harassed that girl, that part where he talked about how "people give power to the n-word because they choose to" - coming from some nerdy white kid, was the most laughable bullshit

This is something you could probably get away with if you are a high schooler discovering shock humor for the first time. Not something you can do as a 30 something with a Disney contract and kid demographic.

PDP made a shit joke/prank that backfired. I don't see how we needed a 20 page discussion on this. It was a harsh but fair punishment on PDP.

That's not me defending PDP since I highly doubt he even believed in any of this. But he's made rape and racist jokes before. So have others like Jontron. It might not have been a prank but it's a dark joke for certain people and people do have the right to be offended at this.

But the response given to PDP such as this shit post:

and this shitlord post:

only show how the offended can be just as cruel back.

I'm gonna hazard a guess and assume those shit posts aren't going to be viewed by millions of impressionable kids, unlike PDP's videos though.

Maybe as a black kid I learned earlier than others that I'm accountable for my actions so seeing people say 'he didn't mean it' 'he didn't think they'd really do it' are really really annoying. And the guy is 27 years old. That's a fully grown man.

And I think it says a lot about you as a person if you chose to defend this.

Agreed with Matt Lees, if you can't own your jokes, you're just an arsehole for free.

People growing up on unchecked nazism and white nationalism thanks to certain toxic corners of the internet, this just reinforces that.

Yup he is spot on with that.

yeah, you beat me to it. that "say nigger/faggot/retard" a lot until they lose their meaning doesn't work. all it does is get people to think they can say it and then get offended over this PC culture when somebody gets upset.

I'm a Pewdiepie hater myself, I couldn't stand his videos and his fanbase. But I'm getting MGS2 vibes from it which scares me a little, specially considering how vocal extremists are getting.

Good to see he's moved on from Disney-approved rape jokes. /s

This is interesting, though. First jontron and now pewds. Fascinating to watch youtubers become famous enough to pull a Mel Gibson lmao

Who's next

I don't hate Felix but he played with fire and got burned.
I stopped watching him over his increase in this kind of humor since I didn't think it was funny at all.

He's not going anywhere. Controversies like this bolster his numbers. There's currently a large market for people disenfranchised with walking on eggshells to be politically correct. When you ban something it just makes people want to do it more :(

"Don't make light of the Holocaust to entertain children."

"Walking on eggshells to be politically correct."

While this is true, this controversy will also limit his ability to move off of YouTube into something more legitimate. If he wants to be a vlogger all his life, more power to him. It's just I get the feeling most people would eventually have higher aspirations.

Back in the day Blue Peter presenters carved cities out of toilet rolls and buried time capsules.

Now they get all misty eyed about the accomplishments of the third reich.

I really don't care about his recent comments, but I still don't get how people find his videos funny/amusing. I remember I tried watching him play Dark souls and his humor was awful for my taste.

He did know though, I never claimed otherwise. He did know it was a horrible message and wanted to see if it would get through anyone. It did and he was surprised. He could've made a passing comment about it, but instead aired the full thing, that was bad judgement on his part, as that is not good for anyone.

Yeah and I said that the bad judgement goes with knowing it was a horrible message and trying to get someone to say it at all, not the fact he aired it, which was also a epically bad decision on top of a super dumb on this the pile of idiocy comment.

That is correct though. It's just a word. It's how deeply someone chooses the meaning of it is to them. Anyone can make up a word and then say it's a really bad word. I mean sure, the n word has a history but people keeping it taboo or people/media keep pointing/calling it out will only empower that word more. People just have to say whatever to it. Then soon that word will be like whatever and lose it's powerful negative meaning.

He could probably do anything he wanted in Sweden. Things like these aren't as big a deal in countries like Sweden and will do a lot to accommodate a big celebrity there.

Words have context and history behind them and just because you don't care or even attempt to acknowledge that doesn't mean its not true

It doesn't work that way, Randall.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Hundreds of years spent using a certain word, linked to a history of death and abuse and the sheer idea that a specific people are less than. Ideas that not only did not go away but are growing and festering in today's climate, and you feel people will ignore it and things will be better? That is the silliest thing I have seen recently. Well besides this pdp thing. I didn't think they would do it is not a valid excuse. Why give them that phrase to begin with? It wasn't funny. It wasn't dark humor, it was just stupid and/or hateful.

This is spot on.

It's just banter or it's just a joke are used as deflection when the comment or opinion is beyond what could be considered a joke. Slowly the whole thing is getting out of hand.

That's not how it works.

The N-word and anti-semitic words have deep very dark history behind it. It's not something that is easily forgotten when it's still in play even today.

Really ignorant viewpoint here m8.

Sorry, maybe grammar alt-right nitpick: any reason why "semEtic" keeps popping up? Isn't it "semItic"? Is it a common typo or I'm missing something?

So he put the video back up? Be a man and come out with some statement of how you really feel instead of this passive aggressive nonsense. For some reason these Youtube celebrities can built an audience of millions, but every time something happens that puts them in a bad light they retreat and their social media accounts are quiet.

Please be kidding. Please be kidding. Please be kidding. Please be kidding. Please be kidding. Please be kidding. Please be kidding.

Go read a history book.

Quoting in case he deletes.

Probably won't affect him all that much in the longrun in terms of money since he still has the most subscribers out of all youtubers, but I'm glad he was made an example of so people can stop doing this stupid shit.

"Don't make light of the Holocaust to entertain children."

"Walking on eggshells to be politically correct."

You're not wrong, but that's not how he sees it. He's not trying to make light of the Holocaust, he's trying to make fun of people who think the Holocaust was a good thing. And he'd like to think his audience is intelligent to know the difference, but sadly a lot of people are not, and more to the point the people he's making fun of don't realize he's making fun of them, which is exactly why he shouldn't have gone through with it.

While this is true, this controversy will also limit his ability to move off of YouTube into something more legitimate. If he wants to be a vlogger all his life, more power to him. It's just I get the feeling most people would eventually have higher aspirations.

YouTube is here to stay. He might want to eventually do something else, but it would be more for the sake of doing something different, not that he thinks YouTube is illegitimate. By the time that happens there will have been enough other controversies that people will either forget or forgive him.

I cant believe this person hasn't been banned.. I said turn based games were re@#&~& and got banned a week. And that was me referring to a genre of video game. Smh

Eh, that point was made in relation with Tana claiming that any use of the word whatsoever is automatically racist no matter what context it's in, which is plainly incorrect, as well as not applying that standard to any other of words that also had loaded histories.

idubbbz starting using those words to call out keemstar for using hate speech, but now the dickhead can't keep it out his mouth and uses weak shit like this to justify it.

Eh, Jon Tron is pure evil. Pewdiepie has done some questionable shit, but at least you get the sense it comes from ignorance/privilege rather than hatred. He'll hopefully clean up his act and apologize

Please be 10 years old or younger.

Your world view is fucked.

He could probably do anything he wanted in Sweden. Things like these aren't as big a deal in countries like Sweden and will do a lot to accommodate a big celebrity there.

No. Just fucking no!
Don't think for one bloody second that this kind of idiotic behavior is accepted here in Sweden.
What kind of right wing neo-nazi view of Sweden do you have and from where? That's complelety wrong and I'm amazed at your conclusions
This is a very big deal in Sweden and he will be heavily criticised.

Thinking about people "walking on eggshells" is kind of funny in this context.

Like, do you just find yourself in the situation where you're about to tell someone "death to all jews" a few times ago, and have to forcibly stop yourself short? How are these things hard to avoid saying?

PewDiePie isn't racist. The joke was parodying the racist Keemstar.

I'm sick of people reading idiotic media articles and not watching the videos themselves; then stating their uninformed opinions

Anyone can make up a word and then say it's a really bad word.

Do you fucking understand the root of the n-word?

I mean sure, the n word has a history

.... so apparently you do.

Holy shit.

Using racism to fight racism is not how you fight racism.

Man, seems like a lot of people here don't really care about what he said/did, they are just glad that guy, that is famous for playing video games on YouTube instead working a "real job" may lose his career.

Doesnt quite work like that. Maybe for a movie/book etc. But Youtube revenue depends heavily on repeat viewers/fans. Just subscriber numbers are kinda meaningless.

So unless those people that watch it end up sticking around and watching it week in week out, its definitely not worth the hit he will take.

Man, seems like a lot of people here don't really care about what he said/did, they are just glad that guy, that is famous for playing video games on YouTube instead working a "real job" may lose his career.

True. His revenue getting hurt is absolutely deserved but you can easily tell a lot of jealous people dont give two shits about the reason and are just reveling in the fact.
