Damn this overreaction. You must've waited a long time to have a reason to bash him. People are literally asking if this is enough to cut a lot of Pewdiepie income, this is hilarious.
Clearly Pewdiepie is the root of racism and antisemitism.

I just don't see the value, and I'm ready for him to go away, even if I've only ever seen him in print and never seen an actual moving image of him.

I don't think he's the root of racism, but I don't want him around enough to defend him when he's being a dumbass. he did this for the reaction, so now he really should just learn from the experience.

but are most of the people defending him fans with varying degrees of comfort over pewdie's actions? I've seen many attempts at minimization of different types.

What is there to investigate? I'm curious he even got sponsors in the first place considering how he started his career screaming RAPE and FA**** in a microphone. This time he just pushed the wrong button when someone important was watching or someone took the time to complain and he paid the price. The whole situation is surreal, he's a millionaire trying to make fun of poor people from India by paying them to hold a sign saying "Kill all Jews". Even if you ignore the rest form the WSJ video it's kind of hard to defend.

the content of his video is like this

1) he stumble upon some website that will design you with anything for 5 bucks
2) that website eventually are willing to do much more, videos, mathlab(lol), including that holding sign thing
3)he find :
a) guy who will do body paint of anyone's message and dance in jungle
b) guy who cosplay as jesus and will say anything
c) girl who will help you with your mathlab homework
d) a girl who will play hearthstone together with you if you pay
e) and more you get the point

4) so he order (a) guy to do the jew thing, (b) guy to make fun of jacksepticeye , and (c) girl to draw a penis using mathlab code and (d) girl to play roblox..... yeah his humor is fucked up indeed lmao

5) c and d girl denied his request, b and a guy accept that request. in case of a guy he really didn't think they would do do it

and that indian guys didn't think that as offensive, thus all the heat directing at them which cause ban from the website itself. tough later pewds apology for them, ask the website to lift the ban, and raise money to get their content started up again

so yeah that fucked up joke leads to trouble indeed but I dont think he has the intention to make fun of that Indian guys

What an incredibly dumb way to waste a hugely successful career. How did he think this would go over? I guess he just
stopped giving a fuck , he's rich enough that he doesn't need anymore money. His channel will still earn shit loads of money.

All because he though it would be funny to be anti-Semitic for views. Moron.

But guys, the context. IDubbbzTV is fine because of the context. You just don't get the joke, you must not have a sense of humour. You're too PC. We need to be as offensive as possible so people just submit and stop getting offended, they just shut up about it because everyone is saying it and they should be fine with it. We should say this more often so these words lose their power because that's how this all works. Minorities, employ the SILENCE system when this occurs.

Yeah, let's not be defending idubbbz on his use of offensive language. He's not some master comedian using offensive language as some grand satire. He's just a privileged dude who can say this without consequences and he'll always have an army of defenders who will go off about PC culture or SJWs or whatever thing where minorities ask not to be made fun of but these marginalised people need to suck it up because the white man wants to use whatever discriminatory language he can. It's not like he genuinely hates those people, we can't know what his actual intentions are in his head, hey remember this token person that he cares for so obviously he can't be racist/homophobic/misogynistic/etc, I'm sure he's a good boy under all of it and means well, or other defences waiting in the sidelines for white people.

No but as I said before, context is everything. idubbbz isn't edgy but instead opts in the budget edgy/cringe route. There's plenty of man-childs out on youtube who do nothing but rant about video by yelling, throwing tantrums and screaming that are edgy (they are all metal heads oddly). idubbbz pokes fun at himself and is often abusive to himself as the punchline. But again, this based on taste and what you take away from it.

I just don't see the value, and I'm ready for him to go away, even if I've only ever seen him in print and never seen an actual moving image of him.

I'll never get this thought of thinking. You don't like him so you think he doesn't have a place on the same platform as of you? So because I love watching Sherlock "I'm about ready" for Big Bang Theory to take it's terrible sense of humour and leave? That's not how it works.

"I wonder what I'd say if I did a Kickstarter campaign. Hi, my name is Ian and I'm a nigger faggot. Could have said it like I was autistic. Like I had Tourette's. My-myni-my nigger. My new EP is gonna be dropping in stores pretty soon. It's called Mother was a nigger, Father was a faggot."

You do realise I never stated that you don't get the joke. I actually stated you DO get the joke, but that this doesn't appeal to you. I also never stated that actions and words don't have consequences. You can criticise it and but justified in your stance because as I said before, we#re dealing with very offensive jokes. As I said before, watch a Frankie Boyle performance and you'll see if that appeals to you or not.
It's only a matter of time before idubbbz ends up doing something like this with the same outcome. I said context is everything because people have turned a bad joke into something that the person who made the joke is not.

I also have no idea on what your last tangent was about but...yeah man.

This keeps coming up, but Matt Stone and Trey Parker are satirists and great writers, who have been consistently outputting creative work for 20 years. Pewdiepie is just regurgitating topical 4chan memes for video clicks. Major, major difference here people.

I'm sorry, but this is bullshit. South Park may be satire, but they absolutely had a huge part in normalizing this kind of anti-semitic humor. I was in high school when South Park started and the amount of anti-semitic "humor" like "kill all jews" absolutely exploded. Duck their stupid "jew" jokes. They're about as funny as the "ginger" bullshit that they also started, but somehow that manage to avoid so much criticism that absolutely should be thrown their way. South Park conservatives basically evolved into the alt-right.

Tell use how you really feel.

On your real account. To defend Pewdiepie of all people.

God damn this is the silliest over reaction this site has had in a while. People who think that shit have to be seriously removed from reality.

What's with all these popular YT personalities buddying up with the alt-right the last year or two? Just like The Needle Drop guy having Sauron on one of his videos to discuss the evils of feminism and then going onto his own official subreddit to call his fans "triggered pussies" when they called him out for it.

Great, another YouTube schmuck I have to unsubscribe from.

But i'm not, i made it and lurked a lot of time before starting to post recently. But you totally should get a tin foil hat, that's some spicy conspiracy.

Because people here actually believe Pewdiepie is the root of racism and anti-semitism. Get out of here with that strawman.

I don't get mentality either. I firmly believe in separating artist from the art. He may have said those things but it's not reflective in his work. This isn't Frank Miller we're dealing with. But this is another topic and it's already slightly off at the moment.

I'm not saying Matt and Trey should be pilloried over this, but to ignore South Parks influence on this type of "humor" is ignorant at best. Also, South Park conservatives are the 2nd worst, only behind the Alt-right.

By all means, ignore the fact that I said that I thought that Pewdiepie isn't a racist and just made a poor choice though. Everything you disagree with is obviously an overrreaction.

I said it was an overreaction because there is no real basis in what you're saying. South Park Conservatives is something you made up.

I'm sorry, but anyone who gives Sargon of Akkad a soapbox is someone that I'm going to ignore. He will do just fine without my subscription and he's perfectly free to speak his mind, I just disagree with him completely.

who watches YouTube personalities

Lots of people do. And Pew has one of the biggest fanbases out there.

I literally have no idea what he was thinking. Also this wasn't just some one off thing was it? It went on for a while right? At no point did he think this was a bad idea? Shit like this comes from a real place.

Back on topic though. He has kids who watch his channel. Dude has to be more responsible than this. Not to mention he IS the face of gaming for a lot of people. No one should want to be associated with him after this.

God damn this is the silliest over reaction this site has had in a while. People who think that shit have to be seriously removed from reality.

Its not entirely wrong. While south park definitely tries to satirize racists and bigots, the audience doesn't always understand it. A lot of people I knew in middle school were emulating south park in its use of "edgy" racist/bigoted jokes, but without any of the satire behind it. The jokes in the show come from the idea that someone could have such horrible thoughts/ be that shitty, but that flies right over the heads of a lot of kids/idiots. The joke loses all context and changes from "look at how stupid this bigot is" to "I hate jews." I don't know what the solution is, I'm not asking for comedians to stop making "edgy" satirical jokes, I just want them to consider that a lot of the nuance is lost in translation and can seriously effect impressionable stupid people.

So you completely dont have any arguments then?

Arguments for what? For my opinion about how people are overreacting some stupid jokes he made in a few of his videos and generalizing his content?
That's rich from a person that instead of discussing the matter decided to share that i'm probably an alt account, you're a very funny person.

I understand what you're saying but I really don't think it's an artists responsibility to worry about the dumbest person in the room. There is always going to be someone who doesn't get the joke, and I don't think comedians should be judged negatively or seen as some sort of bad influence in society because there are a bunch of idiots out there.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Park_Conservatives

Sure man, no such thing as a South Park conservative. Something I just made up.
Sorry, it's something some other guy made up and over reacted to. You just continue it.

No, it was term created in the early 2000s to refer to a certain brand of conservatism, the curgent term used for that brand of conservatism is the alt-right. This book is hardly the only reference to South Park Conservatism.

Imaging my embarrassment just hearing about this guy today, googling him, and seeing that his is the most subscribed person on Youtube.

Way to ruin all that, dude.

I know, and that's why I'm not making any demands. I really don't know what the solution to this is and I really don't intend to step on other peoples right to make jokes. I just want these people to consider the effects of their jokes, use a little introspection and determine if it is really worth making a joke if you know it could embolden some very terrible people and steer some good (albeit very naive) people into the arms of bigots.

You seem to be taking this personally, when I didn't even quote you :P

iDubbbz is no different from the other edgy Youtubers, acting like them doesn't make him better than them. He just comes across as the same. A little self-deprecation doesn't excuse that.

Haha at comparing Frankie Boyle to this low level Youtube shock jockey iDubbbz. iDubbbz doesn't have some grand subversive joke about "niggers", "retards", or "faggots". Frankie doesn't spit out offensive words just for the sake of them. There's little context needed for iDubbbz's bad jokes. Frankie rarely even punches down.

You notice how the alt-right, wealthy, middle class, neo-nazis, Republicans, GOP, or other right-leaning people don't seem to be as often the targets of these h3h3, idubbbz, keemstar, philip defranco, and other mainly white Youtube reactionary channels?

I'm sorry, but anyone who gives Sargon of Akkad a soapbox is someone that I'm going to ignore. He will do just fine without my subscription and he's perfectly free to speak his mind, I just disagree with him completely.

But this whole time you had no idea he had been in contact with Sargon of Akkad until 10 minutes ago. Since then you had watched The Needle Drops videos without knowing this and thus seen that The Needle Drops political views aren't referenced in his work.

I don't like Sargon of Akkad either but it's out of difference of (a strong) opinion, not that I think he is a "YouTube cancer". If that was the case, then the amount of people you like who are famous yet who are affiliated with questionable people or ideologies would mean you wouldn't like anyone.

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of people on this forum who actually support Trump don't actually state it out of fear of being chastised of even banned.

No but you did quote me here.Plus the "open" post is in the same aspect of grabbing my and others attention on this subject and person.

I did already state as well that you're not quite getting what I'm saying. There's difference ways to announce a jokes, especially ones that are offensive in nature. PDP is just loud and annoying. Frankie Boyle has that subtly and hard punchline and idubbbz is just throwing it out as a part of his language. It's different ways that comedy is conveyed that reaches and hits it's target audience. You have to be a lot smart to get a Frankie Boyle joke but not very smart to get a idubbbz/youtuber offensive joke or just understand their humour. I haven't actually compared the quality, only the way it's constructed and who the target audience is.

As for your second point. Dunno, if you watched their content you would see that is really is the case that everyone is a target.

I said it was an overreaction because there is no real basis in what you're saying. South Park Conservatives is something you made up.

No, they're a real thing. Libertarian leaning young guys who think the shows general sense of morality makes sense; and southpark tends towards a conservative libertarian style of morality.

No, it was term created in the early 2000s to refer to a certain brand of conservatism, the curgent term used for that brand of conservatism is the alt-right.
The wiki page for South Park Republicans doesn't have any detail about ideology or what they believe, probably because they were never considered a real group and the idea of it is flimsy at best. It's all quotes about Matt and Trey being Libertarians. The wiki page for the book doesn't outline what they believe either.

To say that they turned into the alt right seems pretty baseless from what you've shown me.

A lot of comedians don't agree with you. Chris Rock dropped his "black people versus niggers" routine because it was being used by white nationists. Dave Chappelle cancelled Chappelle's show because he was no longer able to tell whether he was poking fun of racist ideas through his humour or giving racists another avenue for them.

Writers don't create in a vacuum, they are writing for an audience. It's their job to figure out how to get the reaction they want out of the audience. If they misunderstand how the audience will take it, that's on the writer.

Well that we can agree on. Every comedian should think about the effects of their work, even if it's not meant to be taken seriously. But at the same time, if comedians have to worry about what individuals will end up doing because of their work then you start limiting their pool of topics and use of comedic tools.

Man I've always felt bad for Rock, because that bit is funny, but dumbasses gotta take that shit too far

I didn't say they had to keep doing the bits. But no one calls Chapelle or Rock racists because people didn't get their well made jokes. If those guys WANT to take a bit out of their act because of stupid people they're free to do so, but I sincerely doubt that if they kept telling those jokes that we would live in a world where people think Chris Rock is an asshole who emboldened racists.

No one looks at Dave Chapelle and says "There's that dude who made it more acceptable for white people to make fun of black people." The people who misunderstand get shit for not understanding their point, the artist didn't get into some big controversy because they made a bit some idiots didn't get the point of.

No one in their right mind blames either of those comedians for anything. Those jokes were written fine, they just got misconstrued by stupid people.

Isn't that the very reason Dave Chappelle cited for rejecting a multi million dollar contract for another season of Chappelle's Show?

Yes but you can surely see the difference between Dave Chapelle making a joke about black culture or Matt and Trey making a joke about bigots, and pewdiepie saying all jews should die without there being any real thought put into it past "wouldn't it be crazy if I said that!"

They may not be racists, but they are still enabling racism, which is the reason these comedians stopped doing the bits.

By the same token, I think its fair to say that South Park enables racism, regardless of the intentions of the writers.

Isn't that the very reason Dave Chappelle cited for rejecting a multi million dollar contract for another season of Chappelle's Show?
I always heard it's because he heard people misconstrued his point, not because people hounded him for emboldening dumb white people.

But if that is what happened, that's a ridiculous opinion towards Chapelle.

I just want to sit down with him someday and ask him how long he thought about this bit before going forward with it. I want to know the thought process behind this. If there was one at all.
