Staples responded in a calm manner. What a cool guy. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-e...an-mother-upset-over-his-lyrics-a7347351.html

“We already have a lot of issues between black and white relations in this country based on misunderstandings,” Staples continued. “In my eyes, she doesn’t look like a racist. She doesn’t look like a mean person. It’s not very responsible for people to try to take that and jump, looking for some sort of commentary for these issues.”

People are just triggered at everything these days dude, it's fucking ridiculous. Half the shit that happened in the 90's and early 2000's would have people vomiting and crying so hard these days their eyes would bleed whilst they cover their ears and cry for mommy.

Do people not understand they have the ability to not listen to or watch these things? Like use your hand and TURN IT OFF.

We are going to end up in some sort of society like The Demolition Man at this rate and I will be damned if I am wiping my ass with seashells.

If you don't think people were "triggered" by rap songs back in the day I don't know what to tell you. 2 Live Crew, NWA and even Eminem all were met with this kind of dumbass scrutiny, it just didn't get around as easily in the days before social media. I remember entire episodes of Oprah and Sally Jesse Raphael with scared middle American white people being exposed to gangsta rap.

LOL I just watched the video and immediately came to gaf hoping someone had made a thread about it. Shit was absolutely hilarious.

This was my thought the entire time watching it as well.

Me too, this shit is hilarious, I mean it's not just her, but the lyrics are also hilarious. Lolololol

This is all so funny to me, how anyone can get so triggered by a song is just ridiculous. Maybe I'am just desensitized from listening to rap my entire life but the song is pretty tame lyrically.

"this RAP song comes on"

smh

Christina Aguilera? Fuck Your Body Christina Aguilera?

edit: she's really reaaaaaallllllly comfortable saying nigga though

Don't worry, she only says it when reciting rap music. In fact, she just busted out a few rhymes the other day when that lady cut her off in traffic.

It's a certainty, that her kid shouldn't have heard the 5 songs before this one came on, either. 'Norf Norf' sure wasn't on the Christian station.

I bet she and her daughter sing the Anaconda chorus together and everything.

BUT THIS CROSSED A LINE

Hypocrisy.

Right??

This is not a "concerned" parent, this is a mom trying to get attention in one of the worst ways. She succeeded.

Most Rap is dog shit and it perpetuates shitty stereotypes and glamorizes shitty criminal behavior (yeah, I'm getting old)

That remix was pretty funny though.

Have there been any updates since the intial video? I wonder how she's dealing with being Internet famous (and remixed!)

Knew Vince was dope dude all the way. Still though, I was in tears laughing at the rant and reading the lyrics. I don't think young kids should hear it either without knowing the song is horrifying, not glorifying gang culture. Even then, nuance could be lost on adults half listening.

This opinion is extremely stupid. It is not your age, its just your thought process. And most of all music is shit. And a lot of rappers are not glamourizing anything.

I don't get how in every other genre except rap if you tapk about your life experiences its cool and your real. If you grow up in the hood and talk about that experiemce you're "glamourizing" it as though "In my city ots easier to find a gun than a fucking parking spot" means you're "embracing" violence.

And they pretty much played that track on the air without any censoring back when it came out!

If I hear it today on some throwback station, there's a chance some of it gets blanked/beeped out. Hell, Javier Lopez uses that track for his entrance theme when he comes out in relief for the SF Giants, and I'm pretty sure they play a cleaner version of that in the ballpark.

Speaking of Digital Underground, they played goddamn Freaks of the Industry over the air all the time back then too!
doesn't everyone have sex in a burger King bathroom?

Yup, people have always been offended. We just couldn't share our offense to millions of people like we can now so it just seems more prevalent.

Have I been teleported back to the 90's?

That's what I thought. The woman is incredibly ignorant.

I think the strangest part of this whole thing is that she's upset about the lyrics but then reads them aloud in front of the children she's wanting to protect. Uncensored at that.

Vince has alot more patience and understanding than i ever will.

what stereotypes would those be? *
ahem* *cough* Troll *cough* *cough*

Vince is right, it's fine for her to express her dislike towards the music but she needs to understand where he came from (and where many others came from) that inspires him to write about his environment and rally against it in music form, and why it's fine for him to do that, and why it's fine that music labels allow him to do these things, and why people are down with it in the first place, because this isn't what's causing unrest in America, that's for sure

she's not wrong about it being extreme (that's the point), but you would of thought a simple channel change and telling your daughter "never mind, I made a mistake, you can't listen to that yet" would have solved everything. I don't have a child nor have I taken care of one but I feel like people over do it which is fair considering that you have a walking talking human that depends on you and learns from you and others for a fraction of their life

this kind of stuff isn't new at all, people did the same shit during the same Britney era, it just involves a whole group of other people and a different genre is all.

im not gonna lie though the way "nigga" slips out so smoothly is the funniest fucking thing ever
