Very nice interview of a PGR3 dev over at xbox.com

A few choice quotes :
Wayne: Will there be realistic vehicle damage like we saw in the XNA demo?

Chris: We've expanded and improved the damage for PGR 3. We know gamers like damage (and you should see Bizarre's audio team beat on cars when they gather reference!), but the kind seen in the XNA demo "Crash" was a little much—the cars weren't drivable.
Tom: Will there be a Cat and Mouse mode?

Chris: Cat and Mouse is fantastic, and what Bizarre really wanted to do for PGR 3 was to give players the freedom to create their own game types, with a route creator and the ability to create game rules. So we've built a collection of features which players can use not only to play Cat and Mouse, but much, much more.
Greg: What types of options will there be for customization?

Chris: Martyn wanted to do something new, which is to offer customizable game features. We're providing a racing toolbox. Build what you want. Play how you want.
Samuel: What frame rate will be used? What resolution?

Chris: Likening PGR 2 to PGR 3 is like comparing Polaroid to Imax. Bizarre's graphics devs have posted a number of goodies on their website, and what's ironic is that their "in development" in-game shots are currently the subject of much debate on a few game sites: "That can't be in-game." It is.

He passed on a FPS anwser and whats wrong with having the cars become undrivable????

I wonder what he means by "Build what you want." ???

If people weren't already convinced that this game will be 30fps, they should be now.

I watch an interview with Alex Ward about Burnout Revenge, and he mentions 60fps really early in the piece. Meanwhile Bizzare are doing their best Barry Sanders to avoid the whole thing.

much like the frames of animation gif argument/theory i had awhile back. 60fps suckas! My realistic bet is that they want 60fps but arent there yet because of non final hardware. Once they get the FINAL kits that run at 100% BC will dance in your face.

HA! I don't like the gamelplay in this series, but if I can create a game like the ones I played in Midtown Madness 3, I will buy this game.

Bizarre has already answered the question and they said they will say nothing further.

Bizarre should have had a goal of 60fps to begin with. I hate this "we're trying for 60fps but it might be 30" bullshit. I hope they can do it, cause if they don't, no buy.

the goal IS 60 fps. and whys it so hard to understand how hard it is for devs to get the most out of new hardware on their FIRST GAME!!! :lol WTF. its not like its the same type of hardware either. next gen will use a whole different set of rules in writing games. Its like asking someone whos spoken english their whole life to learn fluent italian in 6 months. Best example. go back 2 generations to PSX. Ridge Racer 1 vs Ridge Racer turbo thats on the R4 disc.

haha
I love these "PR bullshit" answers.

BS, dont try to pass this off as it being their first game on overly complicated hardware. Did you forget that PGR was a launch game that ran at 60fps. If they were serious about it being 60fps then it wouldnt be a big deal but they seem to be focusing more on cramming insane amounts of detail into the game without too much concern for performance and it wouldnt be the first time they pulled that kind of crap.

What are you talking about? How many developers have said that this new gen is vastly different than any other development wise. Plus the xbox was the easiest console to develop for last gen.

Jesus, I hope they make 60fps just so the trolls can shut the fuck up about it. If every, single PGR thread continues to devolve into this discussion, I might just blow my head off. Well, or just start ignoring the threads like I did with PGR2.

Personally, if the game looks as good as it has in the screenshots, I really couldn't care less. 30fps didn't in any way detract from my enjoyment of Forza just as 60fps in GT4 didn't add to it.

I was refering to Barnimal trying to insinuate that the 360 is too complicated for a dev to turn out a 60fps for their first release.

PGR3 = <31 fps = Teh Suck!

Bye.

I sure hope to fuck it's 60 FPS.

those who say it doesnt matter, its like they are saying that 30 is the same as 60. the difference is like night and day,...

whens the last time console devs had to work with multiple processors? Hmm...SATURN??? :lol its already been stated numerous times that no one is using all 3 cores yet cuz no one knows exactly how to yet. They are writing the games the same way they have been writing them for THIS gen as they figure out the workings of the system.

That's absolutely not what I'm saying. What I am saying is, if it ends up being 30fps, big deal. 60fps would be nice but it's in no way a dealbreaker. As evidence of this, I refer you to my original example using Forza.

Also, it's amusing how all the usual suspects come in a use his statement, or lack thereof, to immediately conclude that the game is 30fps and thus worthless. They've said before that they're working for 60fps but they aren't positive they can do it and don't want to make any promises they can't keep. It's that simple.

you guys can be so fucking stupid. they sid they are aiming for 60, and baring some crazy last minute bug, the game will be 60. they cant confirm that till it ships though, and they wont speak more on it.

so the guy dodges the framerate question and the game is 30fps in your mind. he didnt say what resolution it is, it must be 180x150 huh?

anywho, decent interview, nice to hear they are including cars that are "limited" in real world to below 170 (the skyline). it should be quite killer to see all these cars in game, especially with nice detailed interiors

:lol :lol :lol awesome post

30 fps racers have never bothered me but regardless I do hope they nail 60 frames, just to please the others that want it badly. Either way this game is mine later this year.

Funny thing about IMAX, it's specs are designed for three times the realestate of 70mm print and twice framerate (24 vs 48) of regular cinema. ;)

well, that settles that then

Whats coming is the bitching of the games reflective mapping. People will next latch on this if the game itself runs at 60 frames.

Schafer said:
I hope it runs at a constant 46.35 fps just to confuse people.

No, here's better:

Have some parts of the game running at 30 fps. Other parts at 60 fps. Then have frame rate counters in the HUD that show 60 fps for the 30 fps modes and vis versa.

The Inter-Net will EXPLODE!

PGR3 is the primary reason for me buying a Xbox 360 this fall.. if its 30fps, i'll have to reconsider my preorder. Hear that bizzare? Make it 60fps damnit
