VGLeaks: Details multiple devkits evolution of Orbis

The thing I'm getting from this last page or two of discussion is just how much Sony has to play around with, regarding launch title portfolio. There's a lot of games that could potentially make it at launch, whether they will or not is a completely different story.

I'm not getting my hopes up.

Source is a Sony employee right? They owe you deets for those amazing OT OP's lol.
Whatever it is,I hope the flow of titles is maintained throughout the year and it is not too front loaded at launch.

I don't know if I'm the only one that it's more curious about the orbis dualshock than the console instead.

I'm pretty sure that ps4 will be a beast, no matter if the ram runs at 176GB/s or 192 GB/s... But the pad makes me want to see it asap

damn I am so hyped

Imagine the E3 KZ4 trailer on PS4 10x better than the original KZ trailer and at the end it says 'Its all running realtime'

good times indeed

Those chips have been around "years" ago - why would Sony now decide to scale back after all they had the same possibilites when they started with the devkit. It somehow doesn't make sense to me to offer developers 192GB/s as target spec and then take the slightly cheaper memory even though the target could have been easily matched.

I would have understood if Sony said we target 192GB/s with wideIO but in the end yields, cost and complexity made them scale back - those issues are non existant with GDDR5 because you know what you get in 2013.

Waste of power and money

I was actually thinking about exactly this the other day. On stage, they say they're showing off a new tech demo (say KZ4) and then at the end give it the "Did we say tech demo? Oh sorry, it was actually all gameplay, and will be launching with the console" BOOM. Lol.

One of my sources is giving me a very distinct feeling that unlike the PS3s reveal we are going to see a lot of actual games running on actual hardware this E3. As vague as they are about "what" specifically is looking incredible. They are pointing me to actual IP that came from the tech demos.

Anything Nomura does for the most part is still exciting to me.

Bruce your talking about Sony stuff or 3rd parties ?
Also i agree with you when comes to Nomura .

I'd rather Sucker Punch do something new instead of an Infamous 3. Give that series a rest for now.

Sanzaru is working on another Sony project. who knows maybe it's Infamous 3. Sucker Punch didn't hire Bungie and Fear 3 guy to work on infamous 3. They have expanded a lot since they joined 1st party btw

i'd definitely welcome a new ip, but i can't help but desire an infamous sequel with a huge graphical upgrade. i want to see what the ps4 can do for open-world games.

Do you guys reckon EvilLore is in the know about this stuff? I have this notion that he knows tonnes through all his contacts, but just stays silent on it lol.

why not link to the original source instead of a blog rehashing it? his analysis is just based on the eurogamer rumors btw

Agreed. Only fair.

I haven't seen this mentioned, if so I apologise.

But, what do we think the likelihood of PS2 backwards compatibility returning with the PS4 is?

PS2 production was officially ended last year and the necessary parts for PS2 emulation surely must be very cheap by now.

I know there is Gaikai, but ideally I'd like to just put in a PS2 disc and it run, though with better emulation options as the PS4 is naturally more powerful than the PS3.

I expect PS1 compatibility to be a given.

The PS4 won't need parts to emulate the PS2, it'll be able to do it in software. Even the PS3 can emulate a fair number of PS2 games in software. The only reason we wouldn't be able to play virtually any PS2 disc on the PS4 is if some powerful publisher gets really pissy about being able to sell their HD collections, which at this point could only be Square-Enix since everyone else seems to have gotten theirs done already.

Like Kagari says. Both

He probably knows some stuff but honestly not a ton. Even my guy who should have crazy access to a lot only knows a very small piece of the pie.

GT6/TLG/FFvXIII launch titles :)

sony has everything to have a killer lineup on ps4.
you have media molecule with two teams, one working on vita tearaway, while the other one is working on a r&d project, whatever that means.
santa monica also has two studios with a new IP which has been working on since 2010, the other working on gow ascension.
naughty dog also has two studios, working on the last of us and another game (it's uncharted 4 who am i kidding) since 2011.
guerrilla games also has two studios, supposedly KZ4 and a rpg.
sucker punch is MIA.
PD has to be working on gt6 for the ps4, that latest video is showing realtime footage that you can't get on ps3.
evolution can be working on anything, from wipeout to another motorstorm to whatever racing game they make.
san diego, foster city, bend, london and cambridge are a more sportsy, casual, helping role kind of thing.
don't forget to add the management shakeup in sce japan, which can only be a good thing.

just look at that, sony has a lot of teams ready to go for ps4, not counting with other shakeups, acquisitions and 2nd party contracts, if they somehow drop the ball...then all hope is lost for them.

What latest video? got a link?

Is this guy a pretty reliable guy to interpret the specs? He seems to be slightly down on the Durango...

He knows what he is talking about. He however doesn't know anything about wizard jizz or anything. He gives a natural conclusion about the raw specs currently leaked.

I think one needs to just look at titles like Watch Dogs and 1313 to get an inkling of what the next generation is capable of.

I agree, though i think many of those titles will not be launch. I can easily see GT being shown and it womt release till november 2014. Naughty dog has been working on the other game for a long time (uncharted 4), so i can see that releasing closer to launch. I think companies fret laumch titles because their sales may not be large due to a lower install base. But sony will wamt to push out as many consoles as possible.
