VGLeaks: First look as Durango XDK (always connected, kinect required, must install)

Always on, Always connected? Kinect Sensor sold with every console? Play from optical disc will not be supported?

Another reason could be that the Blu Ray drive, as we suspect, is simply unable to transfer data into the RAM fast enough and so it is better to stream it all from the hard drive.

It makes sense since the BRD is rumored to only be 6x. I expect PS4 to do something similar as well.

Makes sense they would lock out used games then, doesn't it?
Otherwise, we'd be returning games to the store right after installing them. Can't have that.

Why lock them out. You'd still need the disc to run the game.

And there it is, always online.

I still dont get the wailing and gnashing of teeth over this one. Its like the Wii right? Its still optional and surely you can still play games without an internet connection... Right?

So, install from disc but no play? A one-time thing, after which the disc is "dead" (send an activation to a central servers?) perhaps?

Or it could just be what many do with the 360, yet enforced for all games. Just install the game and use disc for verification purposes.

According to the rumors no, you will need to be online to play games.

I think it's the opposite...

I do wonder how much more ergonomic they can make the 360 controller though.

After seeing how much MS has invested in making xbox a household brand there is no way they are going to fuck it all up by having always on-line, no used games and always kinect.
They can't be that stupid. I'm waiting for E3.

Also did the author Mr. H just snag a USB stick that had the XDK program to install the Duragno XDk? There's little to no info about how this program and info came to be.

Can't always connected mean something not terrible?
Of course. It says in the article that game and system updates will always be up to date because of it. I don't see who wouldn't want that. The 360's update system works great only because updates are small, but look at what a clusterfuck it is on the PS3.

I'll be honest, I expect the PS4 to do the "Install to HDD, No play from Optical" thing too.

I really, really, REALLY hope the "always connected" rumor is true. That's one less console I have to spend money on.

Always on, Always connected

After you installed the game you could use the disc to play with your dog because it will be useless.

All of this is referring to a low power/sleep state in which it can still process and connect to the xbl servers. It doesn't say that if its not connected to the internet it will not function.

This whole line is about convenience, so you when you power on there is minimal start up and no updates.

That sounds... annoying. Especially the Kinect being required. I guess it means that all games can have functionality with it if its required. Eek.

Well, it's pretty clear what Kotaku's article was based on. I mean, not that it's surprising since it is what they said it was based on. I just find it funny that this one screenshot covers 95% of that Kotaku overview

Always On, Always Connected, Always WATCHING.

That's a lot to swallow: all games will install to the harddrive? Play from optical discs won't be supported at all?

All games will install to the hard drive, you'll need the disc in to play your authenticated installed game on your hard drive, so no game sharing.

I bet XDX is the source where all the leaks coming from. Now we are see particular source in visual .

Nothing new really. Still wondering if leak spec is final or not.

Gamestop will still support a bustling used game marketplace for PS4 and Durango.
It'll just come in the form of selling new activation codes along with the physical media.

Unfortunately all of this will have to go through a network of "approved resellers". No more selling our games on Craigslist or eBay.
