Certainly while it's in use. There could be an option to de-register the game from your system and have the disc work again, no technical reason why not.
But if you want the ability to play any game without swapping discs, you need a way of making the discs useless while installed.

But the document mentions that the purpose of being always connected is to allow automatic updates. There's no mention of it being a requirement to play.

That's a very positive vision of it. But I'm pretty sure it means we'll have to connect online before we can even play and from there we can imagine the worst.

Like I said, if this is optional functionality, then it's perfectly fine.
I'm just not so sure it will remain in the realm of pure customer convenience...
I still see it as people putting together leaked info (these specs) and rumours (No used games) and assuming an always on connection or no playing directly from discs means blocking used games.
I just cant see them releasing a console that needs an internet connection to play games. Its ridiculous even in 2013 and they'd be cutting out a huge chunk of their market especially if they are selling this at a more family friendly price than the PS4.

Maybe the software suite will make you want to use Kinect and always be online.
Yeah this is old news from VGleaks.
Why would it be blocking used games? You can install any game in full on the 360 and play it solely from the hard drive, but used games aren't blocked. It's perfectly possible that even though the installs will be mandatory with Durango, used games still won't be blocked.

Nope, they are doing market research on how to make more money than the usual console cycle would allow.
The always on, always connected thing doesn't read like its an actual requirement at all, more like the system has been designed to run that way power draw wise ( and for background downloadsmetc while in a low power state) rather than it being an absolute requirement.
Edit : People are mad about the install thing ? I don't know anyone in real life who doesn't install their 360 games, why wouldn't you ?

I'm looking forward to whatever controller Oculus is working on. That company does not fuck around when recognizing what is important to gaming. Controller elegance is not nearly as important as ergonomics and functionality. I can almost guarantee button placement will be vastly superior to the shitsipping controllers we have now. When you can't see your hand the buttons must be placed in reasonable positions.
This will be completely unacceptable when you can't see the controller. Finally! Change is coming. Let's see what you got, MS.

Nevermind the always online, I don't understand how Kinect + will be required to use the system. Some people's gaming setup, be it in their living room or bedroom, just doesn't allow the space for someone to stand up and wave at the camera. Or at least people are not willing to re configure their living space to use this device.
I hope the sensor is powerful enough so that people don't have to make these changes, or at least that it just has to be plugged in (but not used) to use all the features of the system.

Otherwise you could just rent or borrow games, install them and return the disk.
MS has already convinced me where to spend my money next gen. PS4 for me and my friends.

Thats basically what its gonna be. The disc copies itself to your hdd, you play the content from there and then its either:
1. the disc needs to be in the tray to play your game, like some games this gen
2. the disc is registered to your account, eliminating used games
