VGLeaks rumor: Durango CPU Overview

nib95, with all due respect, name me one...just one of the supposed "confirmed" developer who is "on the record" regarding this subject. Failing that, name me one who is even "off" the record.

Unfortunately I can't name the dev(s) because, well, that'd be giving them away. But me, BruceLeeRoy, Thuway, Proelite etc have spoken to one or some of them.

I'm sure some can find some links to some devs acknowledging the dev kit specs being true, but confirmation on my part has been off the books.

The fact that the dev specs were on the money should be abundantly clear by now. Obviously final specs could be quite different, but the dev kit specs are legit.

People need to stop saying these rumours are unconfirmed. They're not, they're confirmed by devs using the dev kits, which are already in the wild. Also realise the PS4 specs were dead on the rumours minus the ram bump to 8gb.

I haven't seen a single developer even acknowledge Durango's existence, let alone comment on anything related to Durango's specifications.

Dude, any developer (or anyone else) who goes on the record will get:

a) sued up the ying yang for breaching NDA
b) their professional credibility ruined for said NDA breach

And how can you name someone who has commented off the record?

Yes, so very convenient for "start-up" website like VGleaks, who are trying to get traffic. The National Enquirer also relies on "off the record" and "anonymous" sources.

Exactly. Still an incredibly significant architectural change.

It doesn't make it an architectural change. They could always have planned to have an 8-core Jaguar CPU, but as AMD didn't have such a product already, they had to put in a rough equivalent CPU in the early alpha dev kits.

Happens all the time. The alpha dev kit for the 360 was a Powermac G5.

VGLeaks didn't know about the PS4 custom chip , people said that EuroGamer info must have been wrong because there wasn't anything about another chip in the VGLeaks leaks.

Additional hardware: GPU-like Compute module, some resources reserved by the OS

that tells me that VGLeaks don't have the full picture.

there could be anything in the Xbox 3\ PS4 that they haven't shared with outside people.

So you think it coincidence that the revealed PS4 specs were nearly exactly as VGleaks disclosed, minus the ram upgrade and an extra background tasks processor? The ram upgrade which not even devs such as GG knew about?

You can bury your head in the sand, but it's obvious VGleaks, Edge, Times, Kotaku, Eurogamer, Wallstreet Journal etc were all on the money with the leaked specs and details.

Where's your head buried?

Adding co-processors is an architectural re-design, so no, won't happen. Tweaking the clock of said co-processors is achievable.

Who said that it hasn't already happened?

VGLeaks didn't say anything about the PS4 chip in any of it's leaks so the same thing can happen for the Xbox 3.

VGLeaks probably didn't know about it, as they seem to seen developer documents. For both the PS4 and next Xbox. Background OS tasks or security, and extra hardware that perform it, would not be information made privy to developers and just kept internal at Sony (or MS, or Nintendo etc).

Exactly! And that is all I am trying to caution. People should NOT be putting their stock in VGleaks (and Eurogamer), especially when it comes to unconfirmed, anonymous "leaks". Everyone should keep an open mind. The Opera is not over until the fat lady sings.

If the NextBox ends up falling short of the PS4, so be it. But I, at least, will wait until Microsoft at least announces their friggin next gen console before I start calling the score.

the 8GB RAM bump was leaked by edge one month before the Unveiling.

We have confirmed with sources that recently leaked tech specs are accurate. Though Durango devkits offer 8GB of DDR3 RAM, compared to Orbis’s 4GB, Sony’s GDDR5 solution is capable of moving data at 176 gigabytes per second, which should eliminate the sort of bottlenecks that hampered PS3 game performance. Importantly, we’ve learned that Sony has told developers that it is pushing for the final PS4 RAM to match up to Microsoft’s 8GB.

If someone has info, PM me, I will sacrifice myself in the name of "leaks", microsoft ninjas cant do anything even if they knock the door of my house.

There is keeping a open mind and then there is wishing for the impossible.
The problem is some people can't tell them apart .

VGLeaks, Eurogamer, and Edge all have had a proven track record so far with one even hearing about 8gb GDDR5 before anyone else. It's one thing to keep an open mind, it's another to believe random, implausible rumors from unproven sources simply because you like the idea of it better. Things can change but it'll be within reason.

Sony lucked out with a last minute change in RAM densities for GDDR5 that allowed them to up the spec, I'm not sure if anything in Durango's architecture can have that kind of a shift. Clock speeds on the CPU/GPU may change but a lot of the rumors seem to indicate that MS has a set strategy and they're sticking to it.

Some people have seen the Durango conference presentation and its bang on what vgleaks was saying, in the least the Durango conference presentation gives us a vision on what microsoft was trying to achieve.

Their vision should have included the CPU details>:(

Surprised that hasn't leak yet seeing so many people have seen it.

Oh nooooo... not confidential on every page lol

I've been PM'd by many to not leak it.

thuway outright tells me not to post it.

While people think it's cool to post stuff on the Internet, there are serious implications for posting things that you know you shouldn't.

Pretty much this; Microsoft seems to have prioritized ensuring sufficient RAM amount in order to run the various features (Windows variant, Kinect 2.0, etc.) they've deemed important for the next XBOX.

At the time presumably 8GB of GDDR5 didn't seem possible; so essentially their engineers devised coupling slower DDR3 with a small, fast pool of ESRAM to mitigate potential bandwidth issues.

Fortunately for Sony/Unfortunately for MS 8GB GDDR5 became a possibility providing both quantity and bandwidth.

Sony's fortune isn't going to make Microsoft radically change their strategy into Venus+Mars, Dual APU, raytracer, 10 GB GDDR5 GTX690.

And Edge. And Eurogamer. All have corroborating spec from different, off-the-record sources.

While I don't doubt the vgleaks, Eurogamer cited superdae as the source for their article which is the same as kotaku and vgleaks so it doesnt really corroborate anything

not that it matters since half of gaf has seen the spec sheets anyway

Paste bin ftw ;)

if it can cost somebody their jobs, don't post it. that's not cool/right.
well if you cost someone their job than you are very stupid. There is so many ways to post this info without anyone knowing who posted it...

If they can track SuperDae... They can track you.

Use with caution.

yes, most likely they can track me, but I guess for Costa Rica, FBI cant do anything, but thats my guess.Anyway all,I can say is that i receive an anonymous Email, and place it on the internet, no harm intended. If the info was accurate not my problem.

Edit: Best Idea, I will go to an internet cafe here, open an account for paste bin, and let the fun begins.

Posting / leaking / having the information is not illegal as long as you did not obtain it in any way illegally, superdae was arrested because he broke into servers and also was in possession of stolen goods.

The only thing I want to know about MS presentation document is if there is any mention of Alan Wake 2!!!!

For now it's the only reason I'm excited about the nextbox.

I hope they reveal AW2 with Durango. If it is a launch title I swear I'll buy two consoles and gift one to a friend!

Thats true, then I dont care, I am open to do it. "Dont ban me if doing goes againts the rules of the forum, if that was the case, then I wont procced."

No mention of games. Strictly what was already covered about the GPU and the Data Move Engines from info we already know from Vgleaks.

It isn't just feasibility, no matter what some people here may try to say, GDDR5 is much more expensive than DDR3. I'm sure MS figured feasible or not, 8GB GDDR5 just wasnt cost effective.

There should easily be $100 difference in the machines BOM there should MS choose/be forced to exploit it.
