Vice Documentary - Bam Margera

Isn't Steve-O also in bad shape? Damn, this is a real shame. Ryan Dunn was my favourite jackass back in the day and his death really shocked me.

he was in terrible shape circa the second jackass movie. not your standard "rock bottom" but brain fried, one foot in the grave rock bottom. seems he's well past that though

It's interesting how focused people are on his looks and how that's the most tragic part. Sure he could lose a few kilos to be heathier but he actually looks good for a guy his age and weight.

They spend some time on this but apparently with the start of his alcoholism also came bulimia because he had serious body issues.

Watching this really got to me. I grew up alongside the CKY videos and then Jackass stuff. Ryan Dunn's death is still the "celebrity" death that hit me hardest. I really want to see Bam come out of this healthy. (Also holy shit I can't believe Novak is clean. Wow.)

The doc was really well done. I think what got me the most was when Bam was talking about his house. He called it a closed amusement park and he is stuck having to look at it.

Incredibly well done. Vice has been regularly impressing me these days. I was a huge fan of Bam from the CKY era onward (used to skate in middle school) and it's a shame he went through so much shit but as I recall almost all those Jackass/CKY guys lived pretty hard so it doesn't surprise me.

Haven't seen this yet but does it reference his "music video" where he's just hanging out with a hooker(?), pissing into his own mouth, and singing about how he can 'bend his dick to his ass so he can fuck himself' (this is the entirety of the song) after a cringey intro in Finnish because he wishes he was the Dudesons?

That was my hint that his life is a total mess.

I didn't realize how much of a doting father Phil was.

That was my takeaway as well.

I was also saddened at how Phil and April went along with the gravy train ride...they seem to have the attitude that Bam has all the money so what could they do.

Oh man I didn't know the exact full history of Bam and Him's history. An almost unhealthy obsession with their music and symbol, that he basically coopted their symbol before meeting the band. His relationship with Ville Valo created both an unhealthy body image and the start of Bam's drinking problems. I never would have thought the former and the latter I would have thought was a problem before the age of 24/25. I'm kind of surprised that Bam's obsession with Ville Valo led to things like day drinking. Day drinking was a concept 24/25 year old Bam Margera, a person I would say was off the wall to begin with, was flabbergasted by. This video is blowing my mind.

Jackass and CKY were my shit back in the day. Still remember going to Zumiez every weekend to see if CKY 3 was in stock.

No, the problem is that he looks like a hardcore alcoholic both in demeanor and in frailty.

I hope he stays in recovery but people who recover and stay that way don't generally insist they were just alcoholics because they were bored.

I don't see how him picking skateboarding back up when he's nearing 40 is a great plan. He needs to be going to school or something and learning a skill that will be useful when he's 40, 50, 60, etc or else he's going to go back to being a bored alcoholic again.

Im sad for all these guys from the Jackass crew. Ryan Dunns death tore me up in highschool, so i cannot imagine what Bam went through. Sad to see him in this shape and i hope he can live a good life from now on out.

It's not about WHAT he's doing, it's enough that he's actually doing SOMETHING, and committing himself to it. Skateboarding was the first love of his life, he's trying to get back to a place in his life before fame/alcoholism took him over.

Steve-O has been completely clean for the better part of a decade and is mostly an animal rights activist now.

I was never really into anything he did outside of Jackass, but seeing him trying to get it back together is comforting. You never want to see anyone go through this.

That's nice to hear. They did seem like people that didn't know how to grow up, but good to know some have. What about Jonny? He's still Hollywood right? He seems like he's in control of himself.

I loved him as a skater way back. And while I did love Jackass and Viva La Bam and all that stuff it was disappointing that he kinda just disappeared from skating because of those things. Glad to see that he is trying to get his life together. Hope he gets through it.

I caught the Michael Bay Ninja Turtle movie on tv the other day and forgot that Johnny Knoxville is the voice of Leonardo. He's still doing well.

Had that Bad Grandpa movie a few years back that was a tiny hit

Yeah, he's never had any issues. Been an actor and family man since the 90's. Had a divorce in there but has three kids, was married to his first wife for 13 years, and has been married to his current wife for 7.

I understand what you're saying. On one hand, its good he is doing something to occupy himself outside of partying/drinking, but on the other hand, it could lead him right back to the same path.

I root for this dude. At their height, CKY and Jackass were the funniest dudes around. It's heavy seeing him like this, but from the end of that video it's looking hopeful - he looks like he's finally surrounded by good people that give a fk about him and he's about to be a father. I think that'll give him the motivation he needs.

RIP Dunn!

Steve-O seems to be doing alright. At least that's the impression I got from the recent Hot Ones episode he was on.
