Vice Documentary - Bam Margera

Definitely one of my favorite skaters, anytime I wanted to skate I'd just watch his part in Adio's One Step Beyond and immediately went out to skate. So happy to see him on a board, hope he's able to battle those demons and figure it out.

I was able to grab one of those signed Element boards, it's arriving today!

Rededicating his life to skateboarding is probably the best thing he can do if he can stick with it. I've never known an addict who recovered without transferring that energy into a different but more socially acceptable addiction.

Honestly i never really cared if he gain weight or whatever. I mean shit i gain about 60lbs since i was 25.

But his face definitely shows his pain and problems. I hope he sticks close to Novak to keep on the right track.

I started watching his skating videos back in the day.. And while I did find them funny, him actually skating was what impressed me the most and had me pick up the skateboard.

Agreed. Just watched this and it's good to see him on the right track.

13 mins in: his dad is the greatest in the world.

His parents in general were pretty amazing. The amount of shit they went through over the years is astounding, but I believe they also helped Bam manage his finances--I recall scenes in Viva La Bam where Phil and April were doing his accounting and Bam would bust in the fuck with them--at least so he was set for life rather than letting him piss absolutely all of it away. I could be wrong, but despite having sold the sports cars he still had an Audi in that SBnation clip and was getting into an Escalade in this Vice one, so he may not be as flashy but he still has money clearly.

epicly laterd is a really shitty title.

Besides that, this is super interesting, but it looks like something is wrong in his head now. Like he's regressed into childhood or soemthing. just his tics are different than before on Jackass. Maybe has CTE plus the drugs...

That footage of him as a kid made me sad.

Also, it's crazy how on the shows Raab always seemed like a dumbass, but in this he appears to be the most well adjusted of them all.

It looks like he still really has a long way to go. My father basically died of alcoholism and seeing Bam definitely reminded me of how my dad looked, even when he was ostensibly sober and in recovery. People don't understand just how damaging long term alcohol addiction is to your mind and body. I hope he can continue to pull it together and is willing to get help from the ample resources available to him, because it's not easy.

I wouldn't be feeling too sorry for Don Vito...
The guy suffered from obesity, alcohol and depression what he did was wrong but let's be real the guy wasn't all there in the head and was more than likely black out drunk when he did what he did.

Man, people need to stop focusing just on looks, watch the doc, damn.

What worries me most is that he's 37 years old, he's abused his body physically and then with drugs... It's fuckign awesome that he's turning his shit around, but putting his whole recovery in his capability to recover abilities at an extremely physical activity is.... well it's only temporary. It can last a long while, but if he doesn't focus on another way to get healthy mentally, that's going to be taken from him and he won't have the coping skills to not fall back into an unhealthy lifestyle.

It seems awesome that he has friends who are there to help him though, along with his family, his parents seem awesome.

Because he had the common sense to escape Bam's self destructing path when it was beginning. Same with Brandon DiCamillo. It's all you can do when talking to them about what they are doing to themselves isn't working out.

The most surprising thing to me is that he's still married. I assumed that would have fallen apart pretty fast.

I kinda see all the "he looks like his dad" comments in a different light after watching the segment highlighting his issue with bulimia.

Good to see he's trying to get his life back on track.

Isn't Steve-O also in bad shape? Damn, this is a real shame. Ryan Dunn was my favourite jackass back in the day and his death really shocked me.

As others have said I believe he completely cleaned himself up several years ago and barring a relapse that I never heard of he was doing great. Bam though has been in rough shape for a while. Hopefully he can get and keep himself right. I loved the Jackass crew.

Yup, saw this pop up on my Vice feed and can't wait to watch it later

Bam looks sooo much older even tho he's only 3 years ahead of me :(

Wow...

I feel like I saw a video of him just a couple of years ago where he looked like a slightly rougher version of himself from the old days but now he just looks terrible. Kinda predictable after losing his best friend though.
He got old and he is going sober. skinny Bam was an alcoholic and bulimic.

Really confused by people focusing on his looks. He looks like he got older... because he did. He gained some weight like practically everyone else. Honestly he looks real good considering the abuse he's put his body through and the amount of time that has passed.

It's good to see him back on the right track, atleast. I was expected him to pass one way or another with how he was living for a while. I loved Jackass and all the spinoffs as a kid/teen, so it would be nice to be able to see these guys do well after all of it.

The abandoned castle was weird. It was really like a closed theme park. I wonder how many random people have been squatting there.

April and Phil really were great parents. Must have been torture for them seeing Bam destroy himself.

Yeah. There's clearly a lot of love. Like, a lot, and it's a very beautiful thing. But fuck, kids grow up and they're their own people and addiction is real. Only so much a parent can do. I do feel for them. I hope they don't blame themselves.

Followed Bam since the pre Jackass and pre VLB days, been a rough road and have been afraid for the longest time that he would end up like Ali Boulala, Josh Swindell, Hosoi, or Gator but I think having a family behind him has saved him.
I hope he does have a comeback

Swindell and Hosoi both got out of prison. Last I heard Hosoi is doing really well. Hopefully Gator never gets out.

There's a new doc on Hulu called Dumb. It's all about Big Brother magazine, which is what started Jackass. I haven't seen it yet, but it looks like a lot of the guys are in it. Trailer here:

The Big Brother documentary is awesome. Definitely recommend it to anyone

he was in terrible shape circa the second jackass movie. not your standard "rock bottom" but brain fried, one foot in the grave rock bottom. seems he's well past that though

It's the reason why he seemed so reluctant in Jackass 3. He had already started getting clean by then and was realizing just how stupid some of those stunts were with mental clarity for the first time.

It's sort of epitomized in his reaction to "Tee Ball."

So strange what happened to the Jackass crew. Bam got fucked up while Knoxville played a major role with Jackie Chan in a Chinese movie. The last time i heard about Steve O I heard he was sober again.

Interesting watch. I was in my teens when Jackass took off, had some friends that were big fans of Bam (I'll admit I still play Skeletor vs Beastman for the lulz, never gets old)

The beginning made it seem like he blew it all, living at a pals house in Spain; but seems he kept his finances somewhat in check (parents live well, still owns the castle, and his main house had the Lambo and Bentley, etc)...so not in rags just yet. Wish him well in his recovery. Especially as he and wifey are expecting.

I was obsessed with Bam during the CKY Video days and this video was extremely eye opening and pretty enlightening.

I've gone through a lot of the same self destructive tendencies that Bam has, and hearing him explain why he turned to drugs and alcohol was like someone describing exactly how my brain works. I've also always valued my skinny physique and while I'm not bulimic per-say, I definitely have days where I drink all day and eat very little. It's become a pretty constant occurrence.

Bam seems to be in a much better place now, and I'm inspired to hopefully get myself into a better place as well.

Also, God Damn Novak really got his shit together. I always thought he was the most fucked up one in the group when he was hard on the herion. Huge props to him for staying clean.

Man that video was a really great watch, really eye opening experience. That one thing Chris said really made sense where the age you became famous and get money is where you are mentally and that you never grow up. Remember hearing that in Bojack too.

You don't see many proper alcoholics (which by all accounts he is) looking like he does now. They will likely be quite the opposite in that all they do is drink and are thin as fuck. He looks like a guy who constantly boozes, then gives up and eats to compensate, then relapses and repeat, hence the weight gain.

Either way, he looks fine to me, except in the eyes, but your face does suffer the effects of addiction more pronouncedly and it is hardly ever reversible.

Eh. In my experience a lot of alcoholics look like that. Often times alcoholics are fat because they're drinking so many calories, and their faces tend to bloat. That was the case for me when I was hardcore drinking.

Tragic really, there's only one way this looks like it'll end and it's the one nobody wants.

Hope he survives and can get back to living. Nobody should be trapped like that in their own hell of substance, not something I'd wish on my worst enemy.
