Vice: People outside a Trump rally told us why they hate the media

Journalists, who work for a largely white industry, refuse to believe that those good, salt-of-the earth people in the midwest - you know, people like them - might actually be dumb, reactionary bigots. Therefore, they must visit these people repeatedly, searching for some glimmer of humanity and reason. They can't be that bad, right?

See also those monthly stories where WaPo/NYT visit Nowhere, Idaho, or Bumfuck, Florida.

You don't think you might be going too far the other direction in suggesting that everyone outside the city is utterly lacking in humanity or reason, to the point that you have snide derisive names for the towns they live in?

Do you just see vast stretches of this country as full of utterly inhuman monsters, who feel only hatred? And you think these interviews with the craziest of the crazy at a rally accurate represents every single one of them?

Because that is absolutely what you implied - that seeking to find even a "glimmer of humanity" in this hundred million or so people is a ridiculous, futile endeavor. Well, guess what - now you understand the mindset of the worst Trump supporters, because that's how they see you.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
At this point I wish we would drop these shitty news stories. We are all well aware of what Trump voters think and feel: Scary brown people, Muslims are bad, Mexicans both taking all the jobs but also so lazy they're a drain, liberals are snowflakes. Etc.

I mean a lot of people hate the media. The irony is that these people hate it because of a guy they knew from reality TV and wrestling.

They hate the media because they don't have a bogeyman to blame anymore.

They control the legislature, the executive and most state governments. As these supporters and the party are built on destructive hate they don't have any opposition so they instead focus on the institutions, which are now painted to be the problem.

Amazing how fucking far we are fallen in such a short period of time.

After waiting 8 years for Obama to destroy the 2nd amendment (which didn't happen), Trump has been able to destroy the first amendment with two simple words...."Fake News", and people eat it up.

I think major media definitely has a vested interest in attacking Trump. Whatever his ugly qualities, he still shook up the establishment big time with his election win. I honestly take anything that comes out about him with a big grain of salt, because I'm cognizant of how Jeremy Corbyn has been crucified by the UK media here for his anti-neoliberal stance and I can't get annoyed about that without questioning Trump's treatment as well.

Where do you get your news from, Wikileaks?

They voted against their own interest out of spiteful petttiness.

I don't need to look at that shit article to know what they think about the media, or anything for that matter.

Why go to a cult? Cognitive reasoning and logically thinking. Was beat out of them year round, by family and friends including the media. They themsleves consume -wholeheartedly- what is deliberately bias.

Self enflicted cognitive regression. At its worst and most lethal. They really need to investigate the Fox news branch. Lots of madding and ridiculous disinformation being spread. Similar to how russia and other places like's it, placate the sheep.

Fox News is at the center of it. Nobody takes the problem seriously, and look at the ridiculous situation we're in. Even now, in the face of overwhelming evidence, we all point fingers at various reasons that are insignificant in comparison.

They don't hate the media. They hate the media that doesn't pander to them.

Media should have NEVER pandered to ANYONE. FCC losing their ability to enforce that news organizations present legit news with no bias was a tremendous blow. The issue is that news media is under no obligation to provide facts and the ones that don't will collect people who lean towards those biases. Then when those fake news organizations like Fox News tells them that all the other media is "lamestream media" and is all full of shit, they believe it and all real news media loses any power.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Is this like his team saying stop reporting on what the President tweets? What are you talking about?

I think that one big reason is that Americans seem to think that they're immune from propaganda and are hence unwilling to examine their beliefs and why they feel the way they do. What that means is that a lot of people react emotionally to issues without giving them much thought and that precisely plays into how propaganda works.

Conservatives are fucking babies that can't stand it when their narrative isn't the only one pushed. I'm shocked.

This may sound harsh but you live in an alternate reality just like Trump supporters. I'm not saying you are one; you just live in that world.

Trump has been lying through his fucking teeth about everything, telling people anything the media says about him that isn't agreeable is "fake news", having off-air briefings, talked about changing laws to make it easier to sue them for libel and here you are claiming you treat everything they say with a grain of salt? When there are VIDEOS and AUDIO of everything the media says about him that proves everything they say?

I don't know what to say, honestly.

Most of the dumbass trump supporters I know have stopped caring about him. They're mostly flip voters too so I guess it's just the braindead loonies out there who are left supporting him.

Don't forget the lady who said that all of the Russian's getting involved in our election investigations were based purely on speculation without a shred of evidence. And then she goes on to cry about people calling them idiots and rednecks. Gee, I wonder why.

I assume they all said they hate the media because they are simply an instrument of the bourgeoisie dedicated to maintaining the class structure.

The most consistently frustrating thing for me is the way people have internalized that racism/sexism/homophobia are bad.

What they've actually taken from this is not so much that the ideas related to those terms are bad, but that it's bad to be CALLED these things; they will continue to be racist/homophobic/sexist while simultaneously being upset that they are called the very things their ideas align with, because "those terms are bad" is the only thing that got through to them. Hence the nonsense about respecting opinions.

Why is this guy still doing rallies?

Because it is the only thing that makes him happy while being President. When he holds rallies, he surrounds himself with people that adore him and will believe everything he says. Basically, it's his chance to escape reality.

It's called fragility of ego. They're not bad people (in their minds), so they can't be racist! How dare you call me racist (which is apparently now just a synonym for "evil")!
