Naaah intent and context definitely play into it. Language changes as well, just look at the way people have come to use certain words now online, despite their traditional usage.

Even the term 'dude' had a very specific meaning at some point, then became a colloquial term in American culture.

You can use it casually as a term of endearment or even when hostile.
Nigga doesn't inherently carry a negative connotation in that context.

Southern Americans don't have a monopoly on the word because of their accent.

It's only a big deal here because the one guy was very visibly not black.

So if you had a disabled kid, and some drunk prick starts shouting calling them a retard, you wouldnt smash them, because its only words.

Rule of thumb is, act like prick, expect to be treated like one. Not difficult

Yeah, you’re a jackass. Three posts in here all calling for increased violence. First you say dude deserves to get shot in the head, which is a RIDICULOUS thing to say over any WORD, no matter how vile. Then asking why his head wasn’t stomped on. Then with the disabled kid scenario. Get some professional help.

It wasn't even because the guy said "nigga" or called the other guy a "nigga." He said it multiple times, ran his mouth, and basically asked for escalation in a normal everyday stand-in-line situation at a store. Then tried to kick the guy's can when it fell on the ground. "Nigga" was just the beginning of the issue, as pure provocation took over for the rest of the time.

Being drunk, high on drugs, or angry with life isn't really an excuse either. It's not hard to conduct oneself properly in public. I'm an introvert who hates himself and hates the world but I'm not out there getting in random altercations.

It's a very satisfying video, but the winner of the fight is going to jail, right?

You can't just brutalize somebody over words, can you?

He didn’t attack until after the guy kicked at his hand/the can on ground. I don’t know the law here but I’d not vote to convict, the farnsgoth had it coming

lol why link me to a Hollywood movie about slavery when I'm talking about the use of the term nigga in 21st century USA?

I'm familiar with southern American dialect. I know people that speak like that. That still doesn't change anything.

You're a disgrace.

American cops have killed for less, if you went to kick the hand of a cop as he's picking something up off the ground that would be considered an attack.

I've said this before in pre-schism GAF and was brigaded by dumbasses, but in New York City literally everyone says the word when growing up. It is simply another way to say 'dude', until we get into University/College and realize that blacks from other states are extremely sensitive to the word... but say it all the time themselves.

So yeah, my take is that making a word exclusive to one race is fucking stupid, especially when it's used so freely in popular (but shitty) music on the radio. Either take the NYC approach so that it has no offensive meaning anymore, or delete the word from existence.
Thats because the black community took a word that was used for opression and hatred and made it their own to show affection towards a fellow black person as a sign of friendship, strength and unity. Just let it go.

Any black person who refers to themselves or another black person as a "nigga" is an uncultured fool.

Every time someone writes n-word it makes me cringe. In this context you could just write it in the thread title without offending someones fragile feelings right? I get why Evilore wouldn't want it on his forum given how the internet works, but it's just so silly. Words shouldn't be banned ever. If this topic was about someone calling someone fatty / uggo and so on you wouldn't write f-word, u-word either. It's especially annoying because the 'banned' words list is growing rapidly in this decade.
