Very excited by the concept of active guards (blocking attacks with a parrying move instead of staying in a default blocking stance), it's something that I was hoping would appear ever since VF3 (as in kung fu movies the coolest parts are blocking attacks). Hope they can pull it off.
The intro part about better storytelling is whatever… who cares about the plot in fighting games anyway ? Even the best character writing can't explain why in the end anybody has to fight everybody else.

It is nice to hear they are investing time and money into reinventing Virtua Fighter. I hope they invest even more into rollback netcode and matchmaking as my experience with R.E.V.O. has been very mixed. Also, they best have Quest Mode (with unique ghosts) as their single player content is lacking and story content has very little replay value.

P.S. I also hope that corpse kicking is back (for Lau stomps at the end of the round) but Japs have been pretty butthurt about those since 8th gen.

Haven't watched the video yet, but... is that Wolf in the thumbnail? Haven't played a VF since 2 I think...
Yep.

Portable 1080p 60fps VF? Sweet!

REVO is the first Virtua Fighter on a Nintendo console ? (Don't say VF Quest, suckers 😜)And no Tekken 8 on Switch ?

Tekken 8 is absolutely coming. The previous 3rd party leak mentioned 2 Bandai Namco games for Switch 2 launch. One of those is definitely Tekken 8.

what's exactly then difference between VF5 Revo and VF5 Ultimate Showdown?

I was pretty disappointed with Ultimate Showdown, both with the artstyle and some of the graphics downgrades like the missing planar reflections

Per the Steam page:

The legendary fighting series makes its Steam debut with Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.! Challenge the greatest fighters in the world in the ultimate remaster of the classic 3D fighter, now featuring rollback netcode support, gorgeous 4K graphics, and all the bone-crunching, martial arts combat of the renowned original. Battle through classic VF modes like Arcade or Rank Match, create your own custom online tournaments and leagues with up to 16 players, or learn from the best in Spectator Mode. Master your fighting style to defeat all challengers in the Fifth World Fighting Tournament and become a Virtua Fighter legend!

Per the Steam page:

so... just a slightly updated version of Ultimate Showdown? that's disappointing... maybe the final version will improve on that.

it's just very sad to see a modern remaster being worse on a technical level, even if these downgrades are only in select aspects of the graphics, there shouldn't be downgrades. especially since VF5 was an absolute graphics showpiece on PS3 when it originally launched.

the missing content was just another downgrade on top of that.

in the end, they would have been better off making a direct port of Final Showdown or VF5 Online, running at 1080p/4k tbh compared to what Ultimate Showdown was.

There really is a big opportunity here for RGG Studio to show just how good a fighting game can be if you channel all the power of modern hardware and software into a one-on-one fight in a limited arena.

Tekken and Street Fighter have not been pushing the envelope. Time for Sega to deliver a knock out.

Now that I've taken the time to watch the video... I can't help but feel somewhat excited for the next game. Shibasaki's retrospective on the series, how he came to know it, its various influences etc, was really interesting.

I've only ever played the first two games on the Saturn, decades ago; and a bit of the first one again at Japan Expo, much later (at a cabinet they had at a retro-gaming stand), and I was surprised to realise I still remembered exactly how the game played. So I'm not even sure I actually want to play the next one, but I'll at least keep an eye on it.

REVO considering the eSports ambitions of VF5 US should've been the default version from day one. What we initially got was a PS4 based VF5 US with a shitty netcode that could fly in 2009 perhaps. The PS5 is still stuck with this shit.

I've always thought that VF5 Ultimate Showdown/REVO look aesthetically worse compared to VF5 Final Showdown... specifically the look of all the characters. But on the other hand, many of the stages and backgrounds in US/REVO do look much better on a technical level than they do on FS. Also, I do not care for seeing hit sparks used to confirm a hit in US/REVO. A simple flash that are used to confirm a hit in FS is good enough to me.

Anyway, the obvious lack of custom character items and custom costumes in REVO still aggravates me more than ever since I go back and forth playing REVO and FS on a regular basis, and I become tempted to scream at my TV every time I hope to see custom items and costumes added while checking out menus in REVO only to see nothing has changed. To this day I don't see the reasoning behind these glaring omissions for REVO when the custom character items and custom costumes blueprint laid out by FS has been showcased for over the last 14+ years.
