New VIRTUA FIGHTER Project | Combat Gameplay First Look

it's sad how comfortable developers are with showing super obvious screen space reflection artifacts in promotional materials...

remember when VF5 had super pristine looking planar reflections?

It looks really good, but I need to see more of the blocking system in action. That's what I've been looking forward to the most.

I can't yet tell what changes have been made to it.

-headshots?
-extremely accurate collisions
-hardly anything was blocked
-block animations were subtly varied?
-at one point, it looked like sarah swayed/slipped a high. it slowed down. So maybe a new mechahic of 'guarding'(blocking), or some kind of back-sidestep on counter buffered?
-Sarah knee string is now a catch-throw. Change of move properties or new mechanic?

Whatever was changed looks fucking awesome. And no meter in sight. Yet.

That would be fun. I just think it would be cool to have that original style updated with a bit more polygons and more detailed environments. No other fighting games have that kind of look anymore
That is really weird. Even Virtua Fighter Remix update hides its polygons.

The closest thing to your request is Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversary included with Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution on PS2.

Posted in the other thread, but this looks fantastic especially when compared to Tekken 8 having visual diarrhea on screen of particle effects and chaos.

This is the only fighting game I'm truly excited for in the sea of doo doo on the way. I'm still undecided on Tokon just because Strive is meh.

I sank so many hours into this series all the way back starting with VF2 on the Sega Saturn. Never thought i'd see the day where Sega would give us a new entry.

Watching in slow mo to decipher some stuff. Doesn't look as fluid as the tech demo but still pretty good with variety of blocking animations/effects rather than just one catch all deal for any strike.

Some dodge and parry mechanics hinted (universal or character/move specific?) on top of the blocking and whatever status effect indicated by the glowing gashes and the way they're thrown off.

But a little too much special effect stuff, was hoping they go the opposite direction on that front, it just looks like Tekken now with all the sparks flying left and right (even if much of it is optional).

It also looks more like an iteration than a revolution. Again, I was hoping they'd go for extra realism, maybe try to do defence as deep as attack, having to read specific moves, for specific blocks...

Maybe the parrying and dodging do require such stuff rather than being catch all for any attack though, so blocking is traditional, but they require more than just some button/timing to perform.

Or it's some dumb special meter shit and you just activate your super move to do the gashes and the super defence to do the parries, that'd be a bit underwhelming (but ok if the game is stellar).

Looks so good. Please Sega, dont add meters and special moves 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Fighting games have become short videos with the amount of special move cutscenes they have, the worst offender is Tekken. You ate a rage art? Here, watch a 30 second cutscene.
VF6 doesnt seem to have any of that

Looks good. They already have a lot less bullshit going on in comparison to other fighting games, which I like. I wonder if they could remove the heavy hit particle effects completely and think of another way to communicate hits and keep it feeling satisfying. Probably not?

I do have one criticism: Boob jiggle, where is it? Since Dead or Alive is dead, Sega can swoop in and make hot girls with jiggle.

This looks baller. I get the criticism on the hit sparks etc, perhaps they can be toned down or turned off.

Be happy VF is back, and its looking glorious. A few twists, some meaty content and it can try to persuade disappointed T8 players.

Funny to see that the main effect they choose for the video's picture is copy pasted directly from Dead or Alive 6 lol.

Looks good but these slowdowns will get annoying.

Looks fantastic!

I wish I was good at these advanced fighting games though. I can go through a moves list one by one but when it's a fight I often fall back to just a handful of moves and when stressed out I mash.

We all know it's gonna be another standard fighter with a couple of gimmicks like DOA. Not necessarily a bad thing, but constant whiffing and slowdown scenes are gonna be boring to play and watch after the first hour. The final hit KO replay is probably fine and just expanded from older games giving that extra touch. Long as it's for match end and not every round, perhaps.

I hope we don't see meter gimmicks.

Still, cautiously optimistic.

The concept didn't look viable for actual gameplay. Game needs to run perfect on base consoles also, assuming its a PS5 project. This is a vs fighter.

For me 5 Revo looks fine still. Just the sounds are awful.

This is not even in alpha state and look at how many morons are already shitting on it.

This looks very, very good considering the early stage of production. Can't wait to see more.

"we want games announced earlier!!!"

*company procedes to show something raw as hell*
"doesn't look finished!"

I'm really excited about VF's return, and I'm loving everything I've seen. The only bad thing is that it looks like a 2027 game... At least it's on the right track.
