I've been watching Utawarerumono's anime to get prepared for the sequel and feeling like it's very same-y compared to Tears to Tiara II. Is it just me or is the premise almost the same?

Finished reading Higurashi chap 4. A bit underwhelming after the greatness of chap 3, but still a breath of fresh air from the main episodes. This time I found the sound direction quite strange, with a lot more silenced moments and some drastic changes between two pieces. Moreover, in the script there is a moment in which the narrator brutally switches from the first person to Akasaka, don't know if it is some sort of translation error or if it was an intentional but awkward choice by R07.

May is ending and obviously neither Muv Luv nor Dies Irae are making it, so I'll take a break from VNs and wait for one of those two to finally be out.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
So, with Higurashi... if I only played the Question Arc now, and waited for the rest of the Answer arc to be released, how satisfying of an experience would it be? I am not on-board with cliffhangers.

Each chapter is a stand-alone-ish story that connects to a larger whole, there's no real reason to wait for any of the chapters to be released.

I don't really agree, the episodes can be read alone up to a certain point, but waiting months/years to get answers is gonna hurt the experience. You want to be able to remember some of the finer details when you read the last episodes

Like a sucker, I'll do it for the physical LE >_>

... And the fandisc. Considering it has an after story of the white-haired girl which name I'm totally forgetting right now, I'm totally in

In other news, I'm surprised to see that neither Shizuka nor Hours Left have jumped in here to talk about the new brand SP developed for BL and Otome games.

I've seen it. It's Sekai Project. They've tried backing a BL title in the past and we all know how that turned out.

They have licensed 3 bl titles, 2 which were crowdfunding failures, that are on limbo. I'm not that interested in any of them so I don't care, but I learned not to get excited when SP teases a bl/otome title.

Completely unrelated to the previous discussion but I think everyone here had this thought while playing MuvLuv Extra:

Fuuuck me I just finished Utawarerumono. Can't wait for the sequel now. That epilogue was really something else and knowing that these characters will reappear in the sequels has me excited beyond measure.

That reminds me. I played Utawarerumono a long time ago hence I don't remember it that well, so I want to refresh my memory before getting into the sequel. Anyone know if the anime is good for that?
So hyped for The False Faces. :D

It'd be perfect! The game obviously has more scenes and development but the anime is a good substitute, especially since you've played it before. Easy to watch too, as it's streaming on Funimation or available on Amazon US for $20.

If you watch the anime and the oavs you'll see everything from the game except maybe 1or 2 scenes and stuff that they can't show in the anime adaptation thanks to it being broadcasted.

The first anime is a great way to refresh your memory.

I'm looking forward to Uta tomorrow, since the anime was so poorly done. Weird pacing, and I had so many more questions, after knowing the story of the first Uta (unless I need to wait for the third game for answers?) The anime just felt rushed and inconsistant, especially with the characters.

Awesome. Thanks.

I honestly forgot Utawarerumono 2 was coming out today. Everything I've heard about the game from Japanese speakers was highly positive so I picked it up.

Hm, I wasn't too fond of the anime, felt a bit rushed but the game could potentially be much better.

I heard it was super rushed. It's kind of hard to fit a VN into something that short of a show. Only something like Planetarian can work, since the VN itself was really short (and the anime did a great job on it!)

EDIT: So now there's Grisaia: Phantom Trigger pt 3??? *sigh* Going to Indiegogo instead of KS again. I wonder if it'll even be included in the Grisaia complete box (I ordered it...)

Well , from the start , the number of parts for phantom trigger were "unclear".
I'll wait since i haven't started Part 1 or 2

The Grisaia Complete box only includes the first group of Grisaia games. The Phantom Trigger games are separate, but I do hope there's room for part 3 in the PT box.

Yeah, looks like I really got it mixed up. (Maybe the complete box will be out before Sekai's other discs get made...) I hope the Phantom Trigger box will have space, now knowing that it exists :x

Might have to get in on the Grisaia box... cuz unless I'm mistaken, they've released some, but not all, of the chapters on Denpasofft. I swear, the way they run that store is beyond moronic. I would buy so much stuff there if they'd actually sell me the stuff I want, because I like being able to buy VNs DRM-free, but half of the shit the carry is that Sakura nonsense.

I've only just finally started 0, but Chaos;Child's good news. I didn't enjoy much of Chaos;Head, but Child sounds much better and I guess I'm thankful that I did play it given that they don't seem too interested in releasing it officially.

PQube is definitely announcing Chaos;Child at MCM Comic Con this weekend. Thanks Gematsu for the heads-up!

Excellent news. I'd love to play more of the Science Adventure games, especially on console :D. Does one need to read Chaos;Head first beforehand or can you get by with skipping it (ie is it like how you should read Steins;Gate before reading Steins;Gate 0)?

It's certainly not a Steins;Gate -> Steins;Gate 0 situation. It has a different cast of characters, and though they were personally affected by the events of Chaos;Head to some extent, this should* all be explained as needed.

Though I'm not sure how badly Chaos;Head itself is spoiled in Chaos;Child, and your preconceptions going into Child would certainly be different had you played Head first. And you'd likely miss references. But the story should be self-contained while referencing Chaos;Head as backstory.

*I haven't played it yet of course, but I've heard things.
