Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

It was mentioned on twitter that this is all done through bugs in the e-mail app. Every firmware it is on from 3.52 down has these holes in it.

So you don't need to worry about buying anything, and won't have to worry about updating to 3.52 if you are on some other 3.XX version.
I was going to ask about that, so I don't have to worry about my Vita being at home if they happen to patch it? Can I use email on wifi if I have an old version, or will it ask me to update?

Also, I didn't see one, but is there an all-encompassing post that covers what this exploit is? I gather it's on Wololo, but I haven't checked yet.

I don't know (and I don't think anyone knows for sure) if this exploit will provide the same access that Rejuvenate does. If it's limited to PSP homebrew, I think I'll prefer my N3DS as a homebrew device. Better portability, better performance ;)

I have been looking at that too.

Yes, if you are on 3.52 you can't run Rejuvinate, thus you can't run native homebrew. If you are on 3.51 or below, you will be able to.

This will let you run PSP homebrew, PSP game ISOs and PS1 games converted for PSP (With sound as apparently that was an issue before.)

For Vita mode, if you are on 3.52, this will let you do stuff like replace the whitelist on the PSTV, make custom bubbles and swap PSN accounts.

Things may change once this exploit is out, but for now if you are on the latest firmware, all emulators you can run tomorrow will be PSP ones.

It doesn't seem to work with my yahoo account. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right since I see no clickable link.

Edit: Nevermind got it used Google instead.

like what ?
ok , downloaded the DB browser
its seems just like jshackles said, its a test
You can go through your apps/games/etc/get files locations

Just got this :)

Just looked through this thread and a Vita exploit is coming O_O!

I wonder how you do this....it would be nice having dual-account support finally :').

Edit: This unlocks the PSP Homebrew emulators :D? That is really interesting news; as I would love to play some of my GBA collection on my Vita (Sonic Advance 1-3 on dat OLED screen? Sign ME up man XD!)

Package Installer access and PSN account swapping is really nice still. Both will allow you to install Japanese demos or even buy full games and use them on your main account. A lot of recent PSP exploits have been using PSP demos only in JPN so that will be good too.

Semi-debug is honestly what I'm most interested in at the moment.

Do you mean I could buy the Chaos Rings games, available in English on the HK PSN Store, and play them with my US PSN Account?

That is the real big thing here; many people can finally access other PSN Stores (EU and JP stores) allowing people to get a lot of games that many of us normally cannot get (like the Chaos Rings Trilogy for example).

Having custom themes might be nice too (would love to make a Sonic one :D!).

Look on the bright side. Anyone who has spent lots of time and money building a Vita library wouldn't want to be locked out of the store anyway. This will allow us to do things like play PSO2 on a main account without the physical version (hopefully), and try out Japanese demos without needing a separate memory card or factory reset. I was on the fence about doing a big jailbreak on mine since it's got the capture card mod inside it anyway. If I can just continue to use my 64GB card as a dual account storage medium, I'm happy.

So how do you start this process? I read through a few pages on the thread but still a bit lost on what to do.....

Any help would be greatly appreciated :D.

It's via the email app on the vita and the details on how to do it will be revealed sometime tomorrow.

Argh, anyone able to test the email app thing through PSTV? I did it on my Vita already, but for the life of me, don't know how to click links on PSTV. There's no cursor and no highlight~

While I'm glad this won't lead to pirating games, It would be great to download demos from JP store and play PSO2 without needing to switch accounts.

I am sad the emulators won't be as open as we thought, since that's all I really wanted out of it. I will enjoy being able to use my Japanese account without doing factory resets though.

Does this prevent you from going online? I'd really like a whitelist unlock, but it'd tragic if I had to choose between that and being able to play multiplayer games.

So even if it's not full piracy, will still allow for old console emulation once it hits I suppose ?

I might be a huge shitter here and I apologize, although once it hits I would be very happy for any eventual tutorial to install and play these emulators on vita

And then what? Will my Vita TV or account be banned if I had this installed? Can it be safely uninstalled if so?
This should be safe, since your basically just accessing hidden commands using the email app.
I also have PSTV and used the Package Installer multiple times while online and nothing happened.

Off topic but this is the only place I can think to ask.
I feel like emulating PSP games. I'm assuming if I download my purchased PSP games from the Store that the games will be encrypted. Anyway to get around this?

Your account will be fine, but when Sony launches update it's mandatory to download it to have online functionality.
i don't get it , so this wont work completely on 3.52 ? only on 3.51 and less ?
he didn't say it wont work
3.52 is fine

The point is if he is on 3.51 or lower he can do more things and use more exploits. With 3.52 he can only do this one atm

The person you're replying to is pissed because Yifan Lu (the Rejuvenate dev) says the vulnerability isn't all it's cracked up to be in that it doesn't provide any new kernel or usermode exploits. In other words, not that big of a deal and probably can't do homebrew. Plus upgrading to 3.52 means you lose access to Rejuvenate.

Of course, it's possible Yifan Lu is wrong, or it's possible someone figured out a new hole through files dumped via this vulnerability (though based on the gbatemp post, it's implied that some people in the scene already knew about the email trick to dump files). The pastebin posted earlier from an apparently? reliable source indicates some breakthrough has been made, but we have no evidence yet. At this point, we don't really know. In the meantime, enjoy dumping livearea wallpapers from your favourite games and the background music to the Vita OS!

This. On a side note Rejuvenate is convoluted as shit and I was hoping this would be away around that.
