Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

Nope, some DS flash arts are being updated constantly and work on the 3DS. DS mode only though.

Nope, with the last "stealth" (not announced) update they killed 95% of the flashcarts with no chance of making them work ever again even with updates because the update blocked them at a hardware level. Only 2 models survived.

The screen is nice but meh. Good first step. Get back to me when you can play backup vita games.

It's good though. It being open now means people will work and collaberate on projects :)

Wait, why do you care about Vita Backups?
You can already buy all the games digitally on PSN.

Don't bother answering.

Not when you've brought retail copies.

I have some, and id love to back them up for use on the go rather than carrying around the tiny carts.

SCEUK were giving it away earlier this year as a Playstation Access Facebook promo. Unwittingly handed people the keys.

That's the reason the hackers used Urbanix, there are vulnerable sectors in almost every digital product, that's why they focused all the first PSP hacks with demos and popular titles

Can you still get Urbanix or is it patched/removed?
Yep. It's not on the Store, and I can't find it with the search function, but it's still on my download list (I downloaded it some months ago)
It is still up in the EU store, i just checked 10 seconds ago :)

First thought I had, too. Which is maybe not so bad for Sony?
I dont think that many people will rush out and buy a PS Vita because of this. Paying ~$250 to play PSP games, even if the screen and support for a 2nd analog stick is nice. It will likely be patched in a few weeks tops as well.

I dont think that this will spure much new activity in the PSP scene. It is just an old PSP hack so to speak, now working in the Vita's PSP emulator. The kernel exploit is about the PSP kernel, not the Vita kernel.

The only good thing about this so far, is that we may actually be able to take screenshots or even direct feed video out of the PSV even when the developers blocked it.

Wait, so just the other day Wololo was complaining about some kid leaking the work of others, and then today he does just that? What's up, Wololo?

Sometimes there's a big price difference between the retail and PSN version.

So anyone can sell the cart and keep the backup. Ok.
You should take a look in to the other homebrew/hacking threads to see what these kinds of statements get you.

This is cool for buying PSP games in retail (dirt cheap compared to psn most of the time) and making iso's yourself to put on the Vita, but I doubt I'll get around to it since PS+ is coming next month and I have subscription to it for a year. Does Vita have a way to access PSN Store on older firmware like the CFW on PS3 does?

Yeah? I do that for movies too. Or music. They still have my money so who gives a fuck on a consumer level?
Yeesh, you'd think that someone who's been on GAF for as long as you was familiar with the forum rules...

That's straight up admitting to piracy

First Custom Firmware on Vita - 6.60 TN-A CFW - October 3, 2012

It's started

Yes, but no.

It's a custom PSP emulator, for loading PSP ISOs, not Vita games or anything.

Seriously folks, you're getting all up in arms about *nothing*.

I for one love this, because it means I'll be able to play the UMD games I want to play most (my PSP imports, basically - Super Robot Wars Z2.1 and 2.2) on my Vita, which I couldn't before.

How likely is it that this can be used as a stepping stone to full-on Vita CFW? Couldn't they potentially create some sort of buffer overflow now that they're able to run unsigned code within the PSP emulator?

Hmm... probably you are right, I just noticed I searched for "uRbanix" by mistake and didn't find anything. I didn't know the search function was case-sensitive ._.
Another rule that i think always apply is that if the game/content is in your download list, then it is also available in the store :) When Sony temporary removed some PSP games, then those games disappeared from the download list as well. And when they added the games back, then they appeared in the download list again. I'm pretty sure that the download list just redirect you to the store content.

Completely depends on how secure the sandbox for the PSP emulator is. For comparison, the DS-mode on 3DS has been open since launch, yet no one has been able to break out of that sandbox and into 3DS mode.

if someone could make a tutorial, keep a close eye on this, how to get everything working, etc, i would really appreciate it.

i have no idea how psp CFW works, etc as i havent followed it at all, but id really like to play birth by sleep on the vita.

ill purchase urbanix soon enough, i'm in usa but i'm sure it will be ported over soon i think.
