Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

Anyone else on 3.18 just thinking of updating? I'm not seeing much progress on the webkit hack. I can't use remote play or install new games.

I don't use my Vita much so it's easy to keep mine on a low firmware, and Remote Play was only fun the first month I got my PS4.

But if you use the Vita for those purposes and buy new games that require higher firmware, then I'd just say update. Android devices can do emulation and PSP games better than the Vita does anyway, and with a potentially bigger screen. For example a mighty combo would be an Xperia Z3 tablet (8 inch screen) with the official controller mount:

There just hasn't been anything Vita wise that has been worth updating for IMO. PS+ months have been slim for the vita and nothing new out has demanded my attention... So I haven't even played my Vita in the last month or two. If I had jumped on Conception being $20 I would have... but I kept thinking that during the Christmas sale that another better JRPG might go on sale (like Rorona).

Yeah, the Vita would be better, but now that powerful phones are abundant the need for it on the Vita isn't as strong. When the PSP was out it was the only device of it's kind. Still, it would be good to have a pocket emulator, a phone + DS4 isn't as portable.

I've gotten remote play to work on my Nexus 4, but it's a lot more laggy and the DS4 doesn't seem to work yet. Maybe someday.

Yeah, I want to play resogun and some of the other PS+ freebies, plus remote play. I'll probably update soon, because I'll be getting games like Resident Evil Revelations 2 for sure.

Man, the PSP was so much easier. The swaploit and xploit came out less than 6 months into the vitas lifespan.

edit: On a sidenote, the swapper and Duke Nukem both run on 3.18 :)

Those all came about because Sony forgot to include verification checks in the first retail PSP firmware in Japan (1.0) which let anyone run any piece of unverified software. Many developers essentially had developer units day one (or were able to get a hold of them fairly easily).

It's much easier to find an exploit on a future update when you already have control of a previous one. Obviously we weren't so lucky this time.

When I'm on 3.18 can I still load the actual psplus games on my Vita through ps3? Any tutorials?
Yes. Use QCMA and connect for Vita in airplane mode. Go into content manager, connect to PC and then unplug the cable from your PC. Now plug the cable into your PS3 and you should be good to go. All games with transfer, but not all will launch. Resogun for example will tell you you need to update to 3.35. duke Nukem 3D however works.

Also you might need to reset your vita first after you turn on airplane mode.

Alright thanks! Will try that!

Is there somewhere where I can find a list of games that will launch (while my Vita is still on 3.18)? Will Spelunky work?

-Edit I just got a bad feeling about this probably best not to ask (no it wasn't something bannable I just thought it could open discussion that may not be a good idea to open).

???? Ask it anyway?

Unless you're asking "LOL WHERE IS DA WAREZ AT" I seriously doubt what you're going to ask is anything "OMG NO." Ask.

Whenever I try the QCMA trick to transfer stuff from my PS3 to Vita, I keep getting Error C3-14978-9 when connected to QCMA, and when I plug in the PS3 it keeps prompting an update.

I turned on Airplane Mode, rested, and did everything but each time I connect to my PS3 it won't let me transfer stuff and prompts an update.

A native hack for emulation on the Vita is something of dreams. Would be awesome. Not to mention the PSTV would act as a nice big screen emulation device.

Sorry for the dumb question, but what's the difference between the custom bubbles and eCFW?
I tried looking through Wololo.net it's not telling me the difference.
Will I able to access the Vita's PSP mode to play non PSN games?

Custom bubbles are just what it sounds like, they are vita screen bubbles that boot directly into homebrew/games. eCFW is when you install custom PSP firmware, so that when you are in PSP mode, it looks and acts like like a hacked PSP including a full XMB menu.

For the custom bubbles to work (be installable) you'll need to at least be able to run homebrew.

Anyone? I just can't seem to get PS3 transfer to work on a lower firmware without prompting an update with the QCMA trick.

Did you set your QCMA to whatever your firmware is? Settings > Other > CMA protocol version

Isn't it CMA Protocol Version FW 3.30 - 1900010?

I have it in offline mode, disable wifi monitoring, and skip photo/video/music.

I tried it on both 3.30 and 3.35 before giving up and updating and it still didn't work for me then.

So I installed a custom bubble on 3.36 thanks to patapon 2 which I already owned :D and Echochrome that is $2.50 this week :D :D but where do I put the homebrew?

EDIT: Nevermind, got it

Joining in on the homebrew bandwagon with Patapon 2 which I just purchased. I suppose I sit back and look pretty until the save exploit is released, right? Which should let me get both eCFW and custom bubbles?

IIRC I had used a save exploit before to run homebrew, but ended up underwhelmed at having to boot up the game and save file every time so this sounds like what I've been dreaming of, only short of full Vita emulation.

Was tempted but I'm going to buy a psTV instead and keep that updated. Play new games on the psTV (if compatible) and keep the vita at 3.18.

But to be honest, I don't see much coming from the native hack. Doubt we'll get emulators etc, and even if we did I doubt they'd be any that the PSP can't handle (an improved n64 maybe)

Even for Europeans?

Nope. ONLY Patapon 2 works/worked (don't know if Sony have pulled it yet).

Playing Earthbound on my Vita thanks to this :D https://twitter.com/Gavin_Devine/status/560067467478052864

Can't wrap my head around creating custom bubbles so I'm just leaving it. The Ape Escape demo will forever boot VHBL and while I'd love to have a VHBL bubble I don't want to break something that's currently working.

VitaFTP is great for transferring files. I use Filezilla on my PC. No more having to hookup the USB cable and use CMA.

It looks like you have to run ARK-2 firmware instead of TN-V.

I want to update my Vita so I can download a few PSN games I missed since having to keep it offline, but how is ARK-2 in comparison?

For VHBL or CFW?

VHBL, ARK CFW and custom bubbles.

I'm really behind in the scene at the moment (haven't even tried custom bubbles and still on 3.18) but from some quick reading it seems the custom bubble tricks have made TNV no longer necessary for playing PSP backups.

I'm still on 3.18 myself TN-V but I would love to update my trophies.

Hmm it's nice we've got a kernel exploit again but I don't know if I want to leave behind PS1loader.

On a side note, is zload.net down for anyone else?

I tried it on both 3.30 and 3.35 before giving up and updating and it still didn't work for me then.

It might be QCMA itself. I backed up my entire memory card via QCMA but it just would not restore! I freaked because all my save data was there, but uninstalling QCMA and its drivers and using OpenCMA to do the restore did the trick.

I believe QCMA still has a few kinks that have yet to be recognized.

Is there a way to use OpenCMA on Mac OS X?

I'm pretty sure I've seen some members be able to do this completely fine with their Vitas, Macs, and QCMA.

Could anyone walk me through this or do a quick video of the QCMA cable trick?

Just saw there was a deal for the megapack for 100€ in december. If I find a similar deal I'll bite immediately. Anyone any idea where I can find a good offer in germany?

Unfortunately, I think the best bet would just be using OpenCMA on a Windows install on your Mac. I am only mentioning OpenCMA because restoring on QCMA led me to an error code too. The restore failed multiple times but worked flawlessly on OpenCMA.

Yeah, I am not updating because the PS1 loader is too good. Would've liked to get Corpse Party: Book of Shadows on my Vita though (PS3 does not transfer that game for whatever reason).

So with this new kernel exploit I can do PS1 loaders as well, or is it that they're patched with the latest FW but the new game isn't?

Note: I don't actually know that much about the PS1 loaders, I've just seen them mentioned in passing and not bothered to look into them any further (and I know I probably should, but I'm already on the lastest OFW).

The genuine PS1loader was patched since 3.18.

With ARK, I've read it has a PS1 emulator but sound does not work.

These are my settings for QCMA.

Anyone able to help out with my PS3 Cable Trick problem?

Error C3-14978-9 after I plug my Vita into QCMA USB first then plug into the PS3. When I try to exit and do the transfer via PS3, it prompts update firmware.
