Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

LiquidMetal14: Cry more. I'll call it whatever I damn well please.

Nope. Because they don't want to release it right now/don't want Sony to pull it. I saw the video the game is hidden specifically for that reason. But it seems possible.
Not a big deal. It's also not called PSP2 as you like to emphasize. Now, for work -_-

Sweet deal, I haven't been following this thread too hard and buying this Vita was really sponteneous. Is there a guide out there to show me the steps to enable homebrew? I only want to throw my copy of Xenogears on it. Does the emulator work OK? Is it full screen?

Uh, I think you misunderstood this hack. This just enables you to run the HBL - not play ps1 or psp game isos. There was a demonstration of ISO loading on youtube someone linked earlier (since removed) that actually uses another game to enable it (not MonHun) which was purposely left out of the video so as to not tip off sony. You can now run homebrew, but you won't be loading any psp isos.

Is there some reason you keep calling Vita the PSP2? It's rather annoying and I never respond but if you're trying to be clever, I suggest actually not calling it PSP2.

Most likely the same shit he does with "SNK Suckmore" and "proper Iori" = just to get people to ask so that they are the ones who come off as annoying.

Ah, ok. I'm not really interested in PSP ISOs, I'll be excited when it's able to read PSX ISO/Eboots

I didn't get the PSP/PSX emulation aspect of this news: So it doesn't use Vita's filter to enhance the image, but is instead identical to a PSP because of the hack?

EDIT: Nevermind, like Enron just said, I still cannot play my UMD PSP games.

Hmm Monster Hunter is still available on my store but do I spend 10€ to have OLED Homebrew... I really want to but I'm afraid of getting anything banned :(

My point in mentioning the forums was that Sony's definitely aware code is being passed around, I believe now that the beta is over it's being put on sites where people who aren't PSM devs can access it. I was under the impression that the PSM source for some engine projects was getting mixed in with the mainline release. There's no Vita APIs visible, it's all just PSM, and last I checked APIs didn't count. I could be wrong, I haven't been following it very closely since I got busy with contract work, but that's what I remember from when the beta went open.
Well, I never followed through with the beta enroll, but speaking from iOS first-hand experience, APIs can be subject to NDAs, and while unsanctioned exchange on devboards and non-public forums is ok, you could have issues if you posted your own code making use of those APIs in the wild. I was trying to do an open-ish source -kind of project on the iOS for some time. I gave up eventually, as the parts I could safely open-source did not make for a proper source tree. Regardless, I'd be very surprised if PSM did not follow the established 'best practices', so color me skeptical.

whoa, careful there.
When it comes to PS1, the idea that people would be ripping our own games through fair use is hardly far fetched. We all have CD-rom drives, so anyone with a PS1 disc kicking around should have a healthy and legal interest in being able to rip and play them on a Vita.

I'd love to do that with my english brave fencer musashi

I was trying to steer the thread AWAY from that. Thanks for veering it right back into oncoming traffic.

:|
Unless the rules have changed... This isn't a problem on GAF.

Ripping is fine. Piracy is not.

I'm not picking up Monster Hunter as I don't care about the homebrew apps.
I would just love to play my 60+ UMDs on OLED.
I'll have a second Vita soon so I guess I'll just not update this one anymore.

You mean to your PC or to your Vita?

Because if you want to rip the game on your PC its quite easy.

Get imgburn -- Rip that game -- run the ISO on epsxe -- have fun! ^^

Nah, I meant the Vita. I can play it on my PS3 but I want the mobility. Besides I can never figure out how to make ePSXe work for my computer; maybe it's a lot easier now than it was back in the day.

Bzzz! Wrong move. Put your source online and you have a problem.

Remember, PSM (just like the iOS sdk) has certain NDA clauses.

Last I checked you can put your code online ;) (Github is quite full of open sourced code for apps, some even available on the App Store), the code for your own iOS app, although you do have limitations when you deal with pre-released iOS SDK's (like the upcoming iOS 6 SDK which is in Beta currently).

Oh thanks for the info, I knew rom talks were forbidden.
More or less. I suppose 99.99% of rom use is surely piracy related. But I'm sure if you made a thread about the Retrode and how you were ripping your own SNES games for personal use, you wouldn't get locked/banned. It's pretty easy to differentiate between fair use topics and pirate bullshit.

All I want from a modded Vita is the ability to use a hex editor for RPGs, sorry everyone with the time I don't have to spend on grinding. You can keep all the isos, trophies, homebrew, I am selfish and only want a hex editor ala CWCheat.

There is already a SNES emulator on Vita via the PSP exploits. Sadly it runs the same as it does on a PSP, so some of the games are not full speed (e.g. Mario Kart, Yoshi's Island). If this Vita hack materialises, I would hope there'd be a SNES emulator that could use the Vita's power so all SNES games would run full speed.

Ok, apparently things have improved since I left the scene. Or I just had too much use of 'beta' APIs in my code ; )

Running BookR on the PSP2 and DAT OLED is Spiderman3SoGood.gif

It really makes me wonder why Amazon/B&N hasn't done a Kindle/Nook app for the system. And makes me wonder why BookR isn't put under the Playstation Suite mobile whatever thingy for download and/or release. Surely it wouldn't step on too many toes for people to buy and use it themselves?

1.8 million units sold.

Though I don't know why Sony doesn't even offer their own eBook service on it.

What's that even arguing? If Amazon can put a Kindle app on Android surely they can put one up on here.

Yep, that's the insane thing: This hardware is literally begging for an eBook app and they aren't providing one. WTF.

Hasb't actually been released yet/still in beta

If you said Windows Phone, or WebOS this argument would make sense. Vita's userbase is tiny to the point where it doesn't draw the attention of Amazon and B&N.

ebook store is completely outside of sen where video/music/game stores are. Dat Sony synergy at work once again. Comics, especially animated ones, would be a blast on vita. Seriously.

Well you can get comics... on the first PSP... it's funny seeing the comic DRM scheme on Sony's account management site but you can't activate it here because they don't have a proper text-reader.

Hahah, shit they do have a WebOS app.

So, basically you're just further illustrating my point: WHERE THE FUCK IS AN EBOOK READER!? I'd totally update if Sony provided one. Seriously, that's the only "app," I'm looking for. Give me the ability to read War and Peace and then jump into a Marvel 3 match. Simple! But Sony is completely stupid when it comes to their hardware. Oh, we'll give you a Youtube app that you may only use a few times on the go. Fabulous. :/

Hasb't actually been released yet/still in beta

But someone can make one and release it outside Sony's jurisdiction or put it on the store with no instructions about converting eBooks to use on it, right? I mean it's possible to use that suite development environment for this purpose since it doesn't require too much power since it's simply reading books, right?

Sigh. Seems like I'll be unable to use the MHFU stuff. I made sure to back it up to my PS3 before switching from my european account to my north american account. So if I'm gonna switch back to my european account, I'm gonna have to sign in to PSN, which will prompt me to update, right?

I forgot the fact that an update was gonna come out sooner or later.

EDIT: Seem like you have to update to even use CMA with your PS3.

Eek, what a clusterfuck.

Some files containing a User mode exploit in Urbanix (PSP Mini), as well as a Kernel exploit (that still has to be reverse engineered) were leaked by a youtube user named Sam Jordam. This guy was a known a##hole for some time already, and has proven to be up to his reputation. The files he stole then leaked are encrypted and not usable for anybody in their current state. One of the only persons who could have helped with this, famous hacker Coldbird, decided to leave the scene after this. There is so far one can go for the love of homebrews.

Coldbird decided to leave the scene after the exploit was leaked because of the potential legal ramifications of releasing such an exploit at this time.

I'm sure these files won't stay encrypted for long, though.

Exciting news, indeed.

I hope we end up with some nice custom home pages

Why are the files illegal, again? Sorry but i dont understand. Did they fear Sony lawyers after the Geohot thing or having those files were an illegal act due to being a pirated game being worked on?

Anyways, sad news I suppose? Honestly i wouldnt want any hacking to be going on on the Vita if people want software on it.

Almost certainly the former, plus circumventing DRM is illegal in many countries, US included.

I hope they call the "homebrew" Wonderbook
