Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

[How to install ZIPs]
* Create an ZIP archive of a homebrew, saved as: "XXXXXXXX.ZIP/PSP/GAME/XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/EBOOT.PBP", where 'XXXXXXXX' is the name of the archive and 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX' of your homebrew.
* Save the archive in the savedata folder where you can find 'TN.BIN' and 'FLASH0.TN'. The file must be UPPER CASE LETTER and max. 8 characters long.
(In example: MYZIP.ZIP)
* Transfer the savedata to your PS Vita using CMA. Ensure that the savedata is at least as big as your ZIP archive is.
* Launch your exploit game and boot the VSH, then select 'Memory Stick' in the 'Game' column.
* Press triangle on the homebrew and select 'Install' to extract the contents to your Memory Card.
* The homebrew doesn't appear directly. You first have to close the game menu, select something else, and then reopen it.

Oh thanks I missed the PSP/GAME bit, works like a charm now! :)

Fucking finally! Yay!

I am at 3.01 right now, I was on 2.02 UNO until Megamix was announced as the game, and I bought and downloaded the 101-in-1 Megamix to my Vita.

I installed it by moving the first updating OpenCMA, and then the three files:

1. Megamix_US
2. OFW660
3. tnv4

I put all of the files inside release_tnv4 folder inside the Megamix save data folder, and then put 660.PBP inside that same folder.

I thought everything was working perfectly, because it did a blank green screen before taking me to the PSP recovery menu. I selected the "install 6.60 files" option and when it completed, I exited.

This was where the problem happened; it was supposed to take me to the XMB, but it is not doing so. It just stayed at a blank black screen. It happened again when I restarted the Vita and opened Megamix back up again. Does anyone know what the problem is? I think it gave me an error code too, which for some reason wont seem to come up again...

So, is this a kernal exploit in the sandbox or another usermode just throwing the TN firmware on it?

Everyone better backup the Megamix game. There's a bug with TN-4 that has corrupted the game for a few people and forced them to delete the game.

Those instructions for creating a zip were terrible. Here are instructions that are a little more clear. Trial and error on my part for an hour.

  1. Create two folders in Upper Case. 'PSP' and 'GAME'.
  2. Put the 'GAME' folder within the 'PSP' folder
  3. Put the homebrew folder within the 'GAME' folder
You should have a folder in the structure now of PSP/GAME/<your homebrew foldername>/EBOOT.PBP
Include all the files for the homebrew with the eboot.
  4. Zip the PSP folder now so you have : YOURZIP.ZIP with the PSP folder as the first level directory within the zip file.
***Important*** make sure your zip filename is less than 8 letters and is in all caps including the file extension.
  5. Move the zip file you have created into the CMA folder where the 'TN.BIN' and 'FLASH0.TN' folder are located.
  6. Transfer the save file from your pc to your vita using CMA.
  7. Boot into the Half byte loader vsh (PSP Homescreen), and navigate to the GAME > Memory stick directory.
  8. You should see the home brew icon there. Select and press triangle on the icon.
  9. Choose install and you can delete the file when it prompts you.
  10. Press left to move from the 'GAME' column on the home screen and then Press right to navigate back. Your homebrew should appear.

So are there any cases of people being banned using Vita's psp homebrew firmware?

And can I update using official firmware without wiping the psp homebrew functionality?

Pretty sure no one has been banned, and if you update the exploit will break because it will be patched in newer firmwares.

OMG I just got done copying UMD isos and moving over my precious Monster Hunter Portable 3. I am so excited for this, it is holy to see the recovery menu on the Vita.

There are a bunch of games I can't get back though, since a friend essentially stole my Go and they were PSN stuffs from a JP account...

OMG!! Man I hope I can keep this forever. I hope FFX-2 HD will work in the future...

EDIT: Is trying to connect to PSN within the PSP CFW a good idea? I want to download my JP games...

EDIT2: OMG the PSN games are downloading. I wish this stuff was official.

EDIT3: Oh my double god, PSP games downloaded on the Vita show up as well. I have everything!

The day Vita actually gets a full hack..... that will be a true gamechanger

There is only on coder currently attempting this and is currently taking small donations

Yifan Lu (This guy is legit. Responsible for many hacks I have used over the years including some for the Xperia Play)

http://yifan.lu/2013/12/12/i-need-your-help-to-fund-vita-hardware-analysis/

He isn't asking for much so I might donate a 20 or so. Could be worth it. He is the first coder to have a Native (albeit limited) Vita hack. Probably our best shot since I haven't heard of anyone else working on this

EDIT

Nevermind he hit his goal in less than a week! Guess people REALLY want a Vita hack

Man I can't even begin to imagine. N64 would be foolproof on this. DS too. Dare I say it even a hint of PS2 and Gamecube? A decent web browser. Unlocking the media capabilities and the ability to drag and drop files without using content manager.

Being a portable PS2 would basically legitimize the Vita in its own right, I'm incredibly excited to be able to even play the Jak games on it. No idea if it's powerful enough though, I'd wager not since most mid-tier computers can't run PS2 titles flawlessly.

I don't understand it, I am still getting this error message: C1-2858-3

I can get to the Recovery Menu just fine, I can install 6.60 files just fine, but when I press "back" to get to the XMB it just stays at a blank black screen until this error message comes up.

Wololo says that this is caused by using a language other than English US, but this isn't the case here. I have never changed my language from English US and it still doing this every single time.

Does anyone here know what to do?

EDIT: Finally fixed it. I disabled all of my plugins that were apparently enabled by default. Not really sure which one was causing this hiccup, but once I disabled them all I was able to get to the XMB!

I tried a few PS1 games with this. Back when I had the UNO exploit I never bothered. Works pretty well, there's some minor graphical bugs that are hardly noticeable. I tried CB3 and Tomb Raider. But not having sound is massive for me. I feel like playing a game without sound is like some sort of blasphemy lol.

Anyone who still wants it has another chance. The new game was just announced, but it is not public at the moment to give people a chance to grab it without Sony pulling it from the store.

So, check wololo or I could PM you if you want

Sent you a message aswell, it would be much appreciated :)

I will buy a second vita if it means I can play my physical psp games that never got a digital release and if there are snes/genesis emulators. No desire to take any risks with my primary vita, but if the above is possible I'd love to know how to do it and give a +1 to Vita sales.

If me posting that is against tos I'll edit that out. I'm just looking for a reason to be able to retire my old psp completely and not get so depressed over the ios/android square ports while we still get junk ps1 versions of ffv-vi and Chrono Trigger

Can I beg for a PM with this too? The Ninja Release info isn't showing on my wololo account (I guess I haven't been a registered member for long enough). Just want to pick up the game before it's pulled.

Wow, I missed the A-B repeat function from the PSP music player. I'm honestly shocked that TN-V4 lets you use the PSP music player.

I think I still prefer the Vita player just because that is actually sorted... I have so many MP3s and can't seem to make folders on the XMB D:
