Vita PSN Game And Service Thread

The fact that when you delete vita games off the mem card means you lose your save data keeps me from going all digital.

Hopefully PS+ for Vita will fix that. SCEA has advertised it to have Vita cloud saves. So I hope there will a firmware update that will divorce game saves from install bubbles in some fashion.

1. Do you really need to carry multiple games with you everywhere you go? And if you're traveling long distance then you will have a bag with you.

2. Seems like paying $35-40 a pop for a game on PSN is a pretty risky proposition as well. You can't even return, sell, or trade them back if you realize you don't want them.

3. I don't play fighting games. :P

My rule of thumb for Vita games is PSN version for anything with online co-op/multi and retail for straight single-payer and imports. I also rent anything I don't buy from Gamefly.

Here's why I'm against hard copies for Vita:

1. You're negating the portability advantage of a handheld, now that DD is a viable option for Vita. Extra games means you need a cartridge case, and by then you'd probably want a bag to store everything.

2. The risk factor. The cartridges are small, delicate, and comes at $20-$40 a pop. When outside, you're on the move, people are around you, and you're potentially juggling your Vita in one hand and your extra cartridge(s) in another.

3. Do you really want, say, a fighting game occupying the slot? Unless you're really dedicated, some games are meant to be played in short bursts ie. a couple of rounds.

I guess what I'm trying to say is:

SONY GET YOU SHIT TOGETHER AND GIVE US A REASON TO BUY OFF PSN OVER RETAIL

I can't say I agree with any of them regarding the hard copy/cartridges.

That said, your bold rings true. I've recently bought a heap of games for my new Vita, all of which I've bought online, "hard copy". Nearly all of which were ~50%+ cheaper than the PSN store. Lumines is $47.95 on the AUD store. I paid $19.90 shipped for the cartridge as an example.

Even if I did agree with your above points, I'd still happily put up with all of them, based completely on the fact that I'd consider it a risk worth taking (financially). DD will always lose because first and foremost, it's twice the price here.

1. Yes :|

2. I never resell, that's why I don't want my physical collection diminished by marginal games.

3. You're missing out

I admit, a lot of these things are obsessive compulsive tendencies of a collector, but I can't be the only one that's like that right?

< $15 or less Digital

> $15 Retail, no matter what
Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition for Vita for $10 in July, Yes Please!

If Digital > $15, wait till price drop

Oh god, yeah, I forgot about this.

That reminds me--I'm really worried about running out of pages to fill. We need folders or something. I'm already at the max and some of my lovely backgrounds are obscured by an avalanche of bubbles against my will.

my life means nothing to you </3

It's not like I haven't tried :|

The last fighting game I actually had fun with was Soulcalibur II. Admittedly, it was in large part because of Link.

If only Capcpom would stop churning out so many Street Fighters in lieu of more Puzzle Fighters. God how I crave an original Vita Puzzle Fighter. ;-; Heck, I'd even take a port of HD Remix.

5 minutes later edit: Still thinking about it and crying quietly to myself

I buy fighting games despite being terrible at them :P

Also, since you mentioned Puzzle Fighter...Pocket Fighter!

Vitabro, you're in for a long wait on many PSN only digital titles. Hell might freeze over first.

PS+ till 1/2017, I hear Vita gets it next month

Also bought

Unit 13 + Resistance Burning Skies for Vita
Were $15 each from Gamefly
Gotta start working on Vita games, need that Hori Grip to come in

Ugh, I found the Monkey Ball demo so disappointing. To me the analog control feels off and the motion control requires too much movement. This game is going to have to live safely in my nostalgic memories.

On a positive note I'm having way more fun with Frobisher Says than I expected. Actually I'm a bit shocked at how much I'm enjoying it when I previously heard so many negative things about it. Just goes to show you have to try games for yourself.

I can't wait to hear what you guys think of Orgarhythm, it looks so intriguing to me.

I was actually pretty impressed with SMB after reading the other impressions here - the analog seems to tilt the camera too much but seems ok otherwise.

You call that a backlog? My backlog is over 400 games long and terrifies me to look at :/

Also on the digital vs retail note - I own every single game I have on vita digitally. That will probably change with all the new games coming out and the fact both my 32gb are full though. I just love being as to boot up any game I want instantly without having to do anything

I just started selling my backlog. Need the money, but its been strangely liberating. Im keeping my rare games, or the ones that have sentimental meaning to me, which amounts to last gen games really. I dont think there any games this gen that is worth keeping.

Really? Not a single game ?

I kind of feel that way too about my backlog but I think I'd prefer to keep the games for posterity.

Anyway...

I finished the College chapter of MBA. Game is pretty enjoyable so far. I'm not a huge fan of the physics but I can get past it. As I suspected, the touch stuff (and there's quite a bit of it) has been a wash, but it's not enough to detract much from the rest of the game. Worthwhile purchase, I'd say.

IMHO there's been a lot of gems this gen. Maybe just not in the genres you like :P

Yup. Some my all time favourite games are for this gen - things like

Fallout 3
Journey
Uncharted 2
Witcher 2
DayZ
Mirrors edge
Trials evolution
Minecraft
Wipeout 2048
Super mario 3d land

Oh I dont lump my portable into my statement. Ive had more fun with the DS/PSP/Vita/3DS than console. Portable games are keepers for sure. I agree with Fallout though, but I cant see myself replaying it again.

Anyways, dont mean to derail thread.

Tried the beta for Sony Allstars, and Im surprised that the only solo play is the tutorial.

So ... Finished Resistance Burning Skies ...
Now for that multiplayer trophy , the only one I'm missing to get the Platinum ...
Popped the online pass, even though I won't play online ...
Been in a lobby for 2 hours ... not a single soul.
How will I complete one round ? I don't know :(

I haven't had any problem to find games. Make sure to search on team deathmatch "big" maps.

Just played 2 hours of Gravity Rush. The art style is so pretty; it's really depressing that it's not running in native resolution. It ruins the look they were going for. Gameplay wise it seems fun so far. I have a few random problems though; one of which being I can't seem to find a way to cancel out of a gravity kick so I end up careening off out to no where a lot of the time. The gravity controls for aiming are a bit weird too but I'm finding the game oddly compelling. I'm gonna keep playing and hope I get used to the controls.

Oh and the music is pretty good.

I don't know if I want to get Street Fighter x Tekken. On one hand, it's Capcom. On the other hand I've heard it's a decent fighter. On the first hand, Capcom.

Yeah, finished the campaign last night and still need to play a round of multiplayer myself. There's also a couple trophies I need like killing "X" amount of enemies with the axe, and suprisingly using the secondary fire of each weapon.
