Vita PSN Game & Service Thread 2

Come the end of E3 all the doubters and haters will be telling us how awesome the Vita is, and how they always knew it would be a success.

That Cat deserves an apology!

I feel like I owe the vita an apology. I had basically ignored the vita for the past 12 months simply because I always heard bad things about it.

After finally doing some research into the system and buying one, I can't believe how awesome I think it is. The purchase has already and will continue to be worth it in my eyes (I haven't even gotten to P4G yet!)

The most frustrating thing will be if the system never sees it's true potentials. It would be a shame, but I still have great hopes for it.

Edit: Oh god, top of page. I'm freaking out. The only vita only game I have played so far it AC:L. If you like the console AC games, I recommend it. Aside from a few blips, it feels and plays like it's console counterparts.

Also, if you're like myself and missed the PS1 bandwagon back in the day, Vagrant Story is a great rpg and is on the PSN store!

That's certainly not the first time I've been labeled that, but I haven't been proven wrong yet either. None of these things have managed to evolve to the point where they can outdo buttons on a speed or practicality level yet. So why do people like them so much? It must be some kind of novelty feeling or illusion of tapping a screen making the game more immersive, because it doesn't actually improve anything when you look at the nuts and bolts of a game. I guess I need to get more emotion in me instead of looking at it logically like a robot.

How about angry birds?

Cut the rope?

Sure those are two very casual example abut are both far better with touch than with buttons

They're also barely games.

But yes angry birds can work with buttons. I played that type of flash game over 6 years ago in my high school computer class and it played fine. I've played angry birds itself on Chrome and it worked more than fine.

Never said it didn't work, said its better.

In tearaway for instance the whole theme is paper. Pushing through it with back touch or tearing it ok front touch could indeed work with buttons but its far better with touch and allows for more intuitive design and control

Hmm, from impressions it seems like I'm better off waiting for a price drop or a sale of New Little King's Story.

Maybe I should try Oddworld: SW but for some reason what I've seen of it doesn't appeal to me... Not to mention I've been looking at Valkyria Chronicles 2 and Trails in the Sky...

My Vita seems like my Japanese games fix machine since on PC, PS3 and 360 I'm more of a western games kind of guy.

Going to Motorstorm RC it up during my lunch break today. Seriously hoping to at least knock out the current festival supercar challenges that I'm stuck on. I started playing Dungeon Hunter, having a blast. It's definitely scratching that lootfest/dungeon crawler itch I've been having. I wish there was more flexibility in terms of classes (there's only three) but I'm doing my first playthrough as a rogue.

At this rate by the time they actually ship Sonic out to me Sega will be dead.

That's not funny mister! I LOVE Sega ;(

I think this is another reason Sony will redesign the Vita. The "Vita" name has been poisoned, the media associating it with failure and dinosuar-era portable gaming. Sony needs a "Playstation 3 -> PS3" kind of combination of a price drop, a redesign, and a rebranding of the platform. It's been done before, it needs to be done again.

No worries. Anytime I get into one of these moods, I login to the 3DS e-shop.

Agree on all points. Regarding PSM, seems there has been a hold of some sort over the holidays on content. We should start seeing a steady stream. On the roll-out of other regions, yes .. it's slow.

Remote Play has its limitations and I think even Sony is starting to see this. I'm hoping they do something with Gaikai technology and sunset the existing Remote Play app.

Oh lordy don't remind me! Bought the 3DS like two months ago, didn't even have a fucking eshop for my region!

Alternatively Criagslist could have an influx of Vitas for sale. ;)

Lol It's not the incoming content I'm worried about. Hell even if they just release soul sacrifice this year it'll be good enough for me!

More worried about the current 'split' of services/ content and the inconsistent roll our of it.
The cat deserved it tbh, lazy couch sitting asshat.

Just platinumed Sound Shapes. It's a really good game, I can't decide whether Death Mode lets it down or not. It's a good challenging mode to have post main game but the luck aspect really drags it down for me. Two platinum trophies means I kind of forgive it though :p

Now I need to decide if I go back to the Sly collection, back to Persona 4, back to Gravity Rush, back to Ragnarok odyssey, back to Ninja Gaiden +, back to Uncharted, back to Unit 13, back to Mortal Kombat or back to Modnation Racers.

Vita has no games!

My E3 predictions:

wowit'sfuckingnothing

Similar expectations for CES on Monday.

E3 will be for PS4, and Vita will only be seen as the door mat that people trample over to enter the Nokia Theatre.

The first half/third of it will have to focus on the Vita. Announce all the Vita games, price cut (if it hasn't already happened), and various other stuff and then move into the PS4 stuff.

Sony can't afford not to knock it out of the park with Vita at E3, especially not after last year.

My E3 predictions:

-Kazuo Hirai comes out on stage, spits on a person in the audience holding a vita chanting "VITA MEANS LIFE!!!".

-He then proceeds to take out his shoe and throws that at the vita cutout present on the stage.

-Finally the conference ends with him saying "HERE'S THE LAST GUARDIAN SCREW YOU!"

:lol :lol :lol amazing.

I feel like this is probably the best place to ask, how does Persona 3 Portable end? I don't mean like story wise but is it a pre-determined calender date in the game or is it simply reaching 100 floors in Tarturus?

Would google it but I'm afraid of spoliers.

If they want to spend time on PS4 then they could have a separate meeting for vita, or spend time on it at GDC

Oh, LOL. My bad. I totally meant Dungeon Hunter. Goes to show how much I want Warrior's Lair :(( Really sorry guys, I'm right there in the boat with you, wanting that game so bad. Dungeon Hunter is really fun though.

While I hate to see Sony changing the Vita, I have to agree with this. The Vita name is just bringing too much negativity. If they were to rebrand it as PSP2, on the other hand.. Or maybe just "PSP" while FINALLY discontinuing the PSP, since all it's doing is cannibalizing Vita sales/software development.

I give up on this 2nd HVT on unit 13. I can't get through the monster closet areas with no checkpoints. Can the HVTs be done through co-op?

Somehow I cleared the 3rd in two tries though.

A separate event dedicated to the Vita would be great but I think they would still need to do it at E3. E3 is when everybody is watching, GDC would be good but people are quick to forget.

Sony should be cutting the price of the Vita, at the very least in Japan, today. If the Vita is successful in Japan then we get games, ideally it can be successful everywhere.

They need a blow out at E3 with at least 3-5 games announced for late this year which can get people to pick up the system. They also need to hold an event in the next couple of months, before Soul Sacrifice if possible, where they set out the price drop and perhaps announce other games that will be coming to the Vita between April and August.

Last point: Would it really hurt Sony to drop the price of the WiFi Vita to $100? Sure they would be taking a loss on the unit but they'd also make it back with memory cards, PS+, game sales etc. It must be better for them in the long term to take a hit now while they can stop it from potentially dying.

Selling the wifi for 100 would be suicide. If I remember right they are already sold at a tiny tiny profit and they have bad enough financials as is.

Yay Sonic finally shipped. Looks like all you have to do is bug Amazon customer service and they put a priority to push your game out afterwards. That's the 2nd time this has happened.

Based on the $250 price in the US I imagine they must be selling it to retailers for between $200-$230 (just a guess) that's with a game these days too so call it a round $200 in cost for Sony. Taking $100 off the price isn't that big of a leap when we factor in that they are somewhat profitable now, they usually take a hit on the console at the start and a 32gb card costs $100 in itself.

Go tell that to any business man and they will laugh you out the door. Selling it for even 150 WILL NOT happen.

Uhh, are you serious? Honestly, it's bizarre that you even think that would be a possibility. 3DS, which is SIGNIFICANTLY less powerful and cheaper to produce is $169 (after two years, AND after they had to drastically cut the price). Yes, Vita needs more sales, but that strategy is laughably out of touch with reality.

Why is it so ridiculous when Sony themselves had to start off selling the PS3 for hundreds of dollars less than it cost to make?

Because the market wouldn't allow for a $1000 game console.

It doesn't allow for a $250 handheld. I'm not saying that this is a good idea, I'm saying it could be done as a last ditch attempt to save it.

It's a lot closer to what the market may allow than if they sold PS3 for $1000. Selling it for a $100 wouldn't be a last ditch effort to save it (not that it even needs a last ditch effort yet), it would be "we have to clear out our stock because we're discontinuing it". What you're saying is something that nobody has ever done and just isn't feasible or remotely realistic.

So you're saying that a $100 Vita wouldn't be successful enough to make Sony money back on the hugely marked up memory cards, sales of PS+ and sales of games? The Vita is useless if it is breaking even but not selling enough for Sony to make money off the memory cards and games. Mainly because it won't be getting games for them to make money on.

They could theoretically redesign the Vita in the same way they redesigned the PS3. Redesigning it to make it cheaper to make by getting rid of unused features, strip it down a bit and they could probably get away with not losing as much on each console. Granted a cheaper redesign may not be feasible yet as it will only be two years old by the end of the year.

Edit: I don't want to come across as thinking that the Vita actually needs this. I think it can probably do well at around $150-$200, I'm just speculating on what could possibly be done if they don't pull it off this year.

Exactly. Look at what happened with the HP TouchPads -- they were clearanced for $100 and $150 when stores wanted to make money off it instead of paying to ship it back to HP so they could be destroyed.

You try to buy a 16gb HP Touchpad now? It's still over $300 when it's not a fire sale.

And why ever would Sony sell a their system at $60-$90 less than the competitors model? That's ridiculous.

Sony should price match with the 3DS. In my perfect world, a redesigned slim Vita would sell at $169.99 while the old Vita sells at 199.99. Directly in line with Nintendo's products.

Woah easy there people, the guy's just stating his point,i think vita is now a lot cheaper to manufacture than it was a year ago but sony can't afford to price it @150 soon but there will be a 50 dollar price cut this fall and hopefully by fall 2014 it'll be 150 bucks with a new model having a lot of internal memory.

The "PS3" comeback worked because they sold the console at Xbox prices while advertising how much more it had going for it, how much of a better value it had, how much better their exclusive games looked and played. If you sell too high the customers will feel like they can settle with a cheaper product. Sell way lower than the competitor, and customers think something is wrong with it. But if you sell it directly at the competitor's price level, well, the customers will start to compare the two.

Predetermined calendar date.
