Vita PSN Game & Service Thread 2

am I right in saying the PSN blog update has nothing new for vita? or is it a preveiw and just for PS+ members?

can we still expect something?

Your wording is strange. It's the PS Blog, meaning it's for everything Playstation, not just PSN. And this is the Playstation Plus update, just as the headline says. This is what's coming next week for Playstation Plus, and it's nothing for Vita as we can see. Hopefully next week we'll get something. In terms of content in general, we're getting EDF 2017 and a couple of other things (Sonic Racing and Ogarhythm demos).

NLKS free? Omfg :o

Heh, Konami UK were throwing out codes a couple of months ago. It was good ;D

It better not be a straight port,I'm hoping.

I doubt it is a straight port. I know some things are better :)

Top of page (almost) check out Life of Pixel - http://www.supericon.co.uk/portfolio/life-of-pixel/

Coming to Playstation Mobile this week. The game looks great, and the developers have had a bit of a hard time lately. Definitely deserves some supprt. Here are more screenshots http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151312231111702.489807.99872996701&type=1

edit: i geuss this is just the PS+ update, and PSN in general can still get something for vita...

yeah it's just the ps+ update and there isn't anything new for the vita announced though as i said earlier it's making me wish capcom ported mm9/10 to the vita lol

I added the funds to my wallet days ago, but I still haven't bought Sound Shapes. I'm so weak-willed.

i've had money sitting in my wallet since I got my vita... haven't bought anything yet... likely won't. I will likely just continue to wait and hope it ends up going free on plus if it interests me as I just have to many games to play (in general, not so much on the vita... I only have like 10 games on the vita to play and one of them is broken lol)

Nothing past their latest update trailer...again, looks interesting but...again, LBP, Dokuro, Knytt, jdnasjk;dnasjkna

Oh okay you brought it up randomly so I thought it must be something new. But what you're listing are 2D games. How do they look similar? They all look very different to me.

Where the Vitabros at, I have like 2 you on my Friends List...

And while no they don't LOOK the same, they are similar 2-D "this is our gameplay gimmick" sort of progression. Again, this doesn't make them automatically bad, just...samey.

None of those games play remotely the same.

Unless you'd also argue that Gears of War and Final Fantasy XII are similar, simply due to the camera.

Well, I mean, you have a metroid-vania (Guacamelee), a physics-based platformer (LBP), a puzzle game (Dokuro), and something else completely different (Knytt) each with unique art styles. Still not sure what you mean.

A Camera does not a game play style make. FFXII is a JRPG, GeOW is a 3rd person cover shooter. All sorts of different.

Again, what they have in common is they are 2D (3.5D) platformers as well gimmick (sounds harsh but I can't think of another word) driven gameplay.

Is this a BAD THING?

No.

But I'm not terribly excited about another one coming out.

You mean they're 2D games with different mechanics. Just as FFXII and GeOW are 3D games with different mechanics ;)

Dammit. Was finally ready to pull the trigger on the Assassin's Creed bundle, but now the Sony online store is sold out and they were the last place that had them for retail price.

gamestop still have some around me, did you check to see if your local stores have any, and if the don't did you check to see if they would ship in one for you? my local store shipped in a copy of cubivore for me and that was like a $17 game, it would seem likely they would be willing to ship an asscreed bundle from one store to another to move it.

lol.. it's not like I can disable them.. (or can you? I don't remember that option for psn friends updates)

Is this review code? When does the review embargo hit?

Opinion is not fact, same goes for you.

Like your avatar though ^^

The fact is LBP is the only one of those listed that's a platformer. Now, I can see the touch mechanics in LBP being labeled a "gimmick" (although I think they're very well implemented, but what would you say is the gimmick in Gaucamelee, Knytt, and Dokuro?

I've been trying to find that out too. My friends must hate me for all of the Unit 13 updates (___ unlocked some generic gun! ____ got character up to level who gives a shit!) and assassin's creed updates. I'm sure they were dying to know how much money I've stolen, especially when it displays extremely incorrect amounts.

For fucks sake. I realize I'm clearly not using the correct vocabulary in defending my stance. I'm not saying that the mechanics themselves were/are poor.

Dokuro's chalk and transformation mechanics were great!

LBP's touch to interact and play with game world was great!

Gaucamelee has its various metroidvania mechanics which look to be interesting!

That being said, they are all 2D platformers. So lets me this simple:

I would rather play Agito HD than Gaucamelee.

Sound Shapes had amazing visual audio cues and interaction!

And yeah the screen wiping in Dokuro was annoying as fuck.

I thought I'd be experiencing a miniature draught until DOA5+ in March, but then I remembered Sly was coming in February. Kind of wish the turnaround for localization was faster, because I'd love to see the Atelier games come out of Tecmo Koei soon as well.

And Muramasa. And One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2. And Soul Sacrifice. *sigh* If Japan Studio should be doing anything to make themselves worth keeping around, it's finding a way to streamline the whole process and getting games on worldwide digital release sooner. I know it isn't as easy as anime streaming through Crunchyroll, but steps towards localisation should start during development, so we don't get another Grand Knights History (translation done, localisation programming never started).

You do not need to get defensive, because I didn't say nor imply that you were calling these games' gimmicks poor, but rather questioning you saying they're 2D platformers with gimmicks. Dokuro is not a platformer. It has slight platforming elements, but if the puzzle is more important than the platforming, then it's a puzzle game. Nobody calls Metroid or Castlevania a platformer, so why would you call a metroidvania type game (Guacamelee) one? I'm not trying to get into a vulgar and heated argument here, so you don't need to turn it into one. I was questioning your wording, and trying to get you to clarify that.

I realize that you aren't saying these games are bad. That was never in question and not what I was talking to you about.

I'm not getting defensive, this is a casual chat :) And hey, what did I say that was vulgar or heated :(

But you're right. Through your explanation I suppose I can refine my opinion down to the meat of what it actually is. I guess I just want...something different. Not 2D. Not side scrolling. Not a platformer...

Though I imagine it wont stop me from buying them!

I'm just hoping for localization of the vita atelier games in general, but at this point i am just assuming we will never see them.

as for a streamlining for localization a lot of the games the japanese companies first want to see how they preform in japan before committing to a english release.

I'm not sure why people (read: not you, but people in general) expect something from PS+ on Vita every week. We already know we're getting 1-2 updates a month and they come at the end of the month.

My guess, if I had to warrant one, for PS+ for Vita updates in January will be Jan 21/28 for the US.

I could see someone being burned out on 2D sidescrollers. There's been a bit of a resurgence of them the last couple of years. I missed them so I'm still loving it, but it's understandable to want something different.

yup... it believe it's NA way of giving new games every week... first two weeks ps3... third week maybe ps3 maybe vita, 4th week vita.

personally I wouldn't mind if they brought back classic ps1 games and gave us one of those each month... especially if they skipped the really crappy ones like sports/racing games

You made a good point though, I attempted to classify those games I listed in what was an erroneous clump...good show!

Speaking of Atelier series. What are the chances the vita versions make it over. Really like Rorona, but have yet to play my copy of Totori. However, would gladly rebut and play it on the vita instead.

yeah and NISA has a history of being more than willing to target small niches, like the group of people who would buy a Vita port of a niche PS3 JRPG.

safe bet, I think
