Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | July 2013 | Slow Month, Fast Games

Well I bought it for the Japanese games so I'm doing pretty good with these three announcements. Now all I need is closure for Gravity Rush and will be well for me at least.

Top of the page recommendation: Buy Sorcery Story, Danganronpa, and especially Demon's Gaze when they come out! Show publishers and developers they weren't wrong to invest in our platform! Also regularly clean your Vita, the backtouch too.
 
Just gonna toss my 2 cents into the discussion, but I was never expecting Western support when I bought my Vita. There's never been any major western pub releasing games for portables outside the likes of Ubisoft who release games for everything under the sun. Hell, not even the 3DS has any major western third parties releasing games on it.

That Sony should be providing more 1st party software, that I agree with. SCEJ' slow output in the second half of the generation certainly doesn't help at all.
 
I genuinely feel bad for the folks who don't like indie games or japanese games. People who bought the vita at launch for Uncharted and Wipeout. We will get more games like that... but at such a slow trickle. It really was bait and switch. I don't think it was on purpose - i think they really thought the whole "console games in your pocket" thing was going to take off. But it didn't. The big winners from year one were Mutant Blobs Attack and Escape Plan... not Uncharted or Call of Duty.

The indie rage is especially ironic then, since it would be the profits from those games that would make further potential "loss leader" big retail games worthwhile to at the very least increase the install base.

Is this an assumption or pretty much a fact?

Yesterday we've had 3 Japanese games announced by niche publishers, Sony was probably only involved with making things easier on them but not localizing the games. If those 3 games got announced, then I guess we don't need to worry about other niche games like Mind 0 and Chronos Materia along with Sony's own Freedom Wars. That leaves other games that are simply not being brought over by bigger publishers. Are you saying that Sony could help bringing games over like Tales of Innocence, Hearts and Phantasy Star Online 2? Spill the beans!

The PS2 siren games were simply bad. Blood curse was a huge improvement but GR is still the better game.

This is interesting. It definitely makes Shahid's JRPG Twitter campaign seem like more than just talk. Though I'm personally rooting for ADVs like Time Travelers more than anything.

Further out there's Mind=0 and Freedom Wars, but I think both of their chances are already pretty good.

Having looked at more footage of Demon Gaze, it definitely looks like something I could get into since it's a first-person dungeon crawler. The art looks nice on dat OLED, too. I'll just pass on the err, fan service.

You might as well mention Valkyria Chronicles 3 if we're including PSP games. This new info sounds fantastic but I'll try not to think about it too much. It would be awesome if those 2 PSP games are brought over on the Vita after all *tears*
 
There's something I found extremely interesting about my purchase history.

The games I bought, I played very little, and the free games I got on PSN+, i usually play the most and complete.

Games I bought:

Soul Sacrifice
Persona 4
MGS Collection
MvsC3
Assasins creed L

played very little of the above. Exceptions being Strangers wrath and plants vs Zombie.

Now the free games I played alot and/or completed.

Uncharted
Gravity Rush
Wipeout


Its kinda intersting. Now the next few games Im buying are Dragons Crown, Toukiden and Ys.

Lets see how that turns out.

I do like some indie games and Japanese games so I am getting good use from the system. I think I've come to terms with only getting bigger western efforts during the holidays.

As disappointed as I was with AC:L it was more than made up for by NFS last year.

If what you say about the localisations pan out I'll be contented at least.

Still can't believe sony shut Liverpool and zipper, we could have two more quality games in the works.

Yeah that kind of stuff has really turned me off to stuff coming out of Japan for awhile now. I miss the days of stuff like Record of lodoss war, fist of the north star, trigun, vampire hunter D etc. The amount of Moe, Lolli, and "fan service" is just hard for me to get behind most of the time.

All that shit was in there prominently when those shows you listed were around and is often the basis for the shit you hate today.

I dont remember any panty sniffing in Record of Lodoss war.....for the.most part its a fairly serious series from what I remember but its been.a long since I have seen it.

Dont remember any moe in In fist of the north star, i remember lots of violence, but no moe.

"fan service" I admit was always there to an extent, but from everything I see get posted it all looks like little girls, and upskirt shows of demons sniffing peoples panties.

I dont remember the majority of the really awkward stuff people seem to like in current anime in the stuff that attracted me to it in the first place.

Thanks for the little bits of news here and there. personally I didn't want a Vita heading into the launch. Always felt burnt by the Psp drought once focus on PS3 kicked into high gear.

My fiance got one for me at launch and I have loved Vita since that time.(Had every Sony system at launch) Awesome HH that is everything I wanted outta PSP. Wish we had more AAA games, but will be happy getting more localizations from Japan.

Does seem like bait and switch but they kinda did the same with PSP. They don't feel that the first adopters are worth spending money on? Let Vita be the last entry in HH market from them. Never once seemed like they were all in.

Lol its sad to think that Shahids JRPG poll was indicating the Sony localization teams that mortimer was talking about, and we had a real shot at getting the Vita Legend of Heroes, and Tales won the poll..... :( depressing to think about.

That's good news, I wonder where they will start first. Maybe the results of the poll will be useful after all. Although Tales is hardly would be my first choice.

The thing is that I still believe that Xseed will release the others LOH games.
 
I wish someone could clarify what the hold-up is with PSO2 (especially on PC). It's completely bonkers that Sega's remained silent this long after already announcing the localization.

I've heard that it's totally playable without buying into the whole microtransactions business. Is Sega finding a way to make it more IAP-dependent or something?
 
About 5 hours into P4G, and it's just starting to open up now. Man, this game starts slow. :P

It was a little overwhelming when I was able to go into the Velvet Room of my own volition for the first time and was greeted with roughly a billion tutorials. I can tell I'm gonna have fun with these systems though. ^^

Arent they like 3 games behind now? I like Xseed allot, but I dont know how if they are doing them one, by one they will get the Vita game out anywhere in the near future. I would not mind the psp games, but I would prefer the Vita game more. "If" Sony really is building localization teams to bring games over from Japan, then I say let them have ths Vita game, and let Xseed contiue with the PSP games.

When was the last information we have even recived on Legend of heroes from them anyway?

Mostly because Zero Evolution is a Kadokawa game, not Falcom. But the thing is that we don't know if they will release Ao no Kiseki Evolution.

And for the LOH information, some staff from Xseed posted on gaf that they don't abandoned the idea of releasing the remaining TITS games, but they don't have any news on that front.

Four actually and that's not including the new Vita game to be released in September. Two of the Trails trilogy, Zero (PSP/Vita enhanced port/remake) and Ao (PSP).

I think Tom from XSEED said that SC is still being worked on or is rather still not officially dropped. That was 2 months ago or so, not sure if there's been any other news since then.

Yeah... no. They are still the best example of survival horror of any gen and platform to this day bar the very first Silent Hill (which incidentally is by the same team).
They just don't hold your hand.

Damn, so basically they would end up being Five games behind once the new one drops, thats a crazy amount of work for Xseed to take on alone given their size.

It will be interesting if these Localization teams exsist to see what they choose to pick up, or even can pick up to release.

As someone who loves good horror games and really wanted to like Siren, I just couldn't get into it. It's intentionally, but waay too campy that I can't take it seriously. It would almost make a perfect horror comedy if there was anything to laugh at. But I wound up finding it so dull that I couldn't watch past the fourth or so stage.

Amnesia would be my personal favorite, although I still find the opening wheel-turning segment of Silent Hill 2's intro really haunting, probably my biggest VG creep-out.
 
Is it just me or did the PS blog not get any updates for a few days now?

Did everybody at SCEA PR just take the rest of the week off after July 4th? Is this a common thing in the US? (I'm Canadian)
