Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | July 2013 | Slow Month, Fast Games

I wish Knights in the Nightmare were in the EU Store, I could import the NDS version but is absurdly expensive now :/

It is not on the EU store or just not on sale?

I am playing it right now. It is probably the most unique SRPG I have ever played. Completely unexpected, and I spend the first 5 hours not knowing what the fuck I was doing. I think I am getting the hang of it now though, and I am really digging it, but I can see why a lot of people will get turned off by it. I personally like that it is so unlike everything else. I probably wont play another game that is quite like it ever again.

I received a Vita as a gift along with a 4 GB card earlier this month. I've had PS+ for a while so I had some Vita games waiting to be played. The following is just my thoughts.

I'm playing Plants vs Zombies and this makes it the third system I'm playing it on. Can't go wrong with PvZ!

I'm really loving Gravity Rush. I didn't know what to expect going in, but it's great. Are the DLC packs worth it?

Chronovolt... Sometimes I wonder what devs were thinking when they began making a game, this is one of those games...

Mutant Blobs Attack - I liked About a Blob, and this one is even better. My first Vita 100%

And for my one major complaint: The memory cards.... Why Sony made the cards proprietary I'll never understand. I want to get a 32 GB but they are close to $100

I wanted to install Uncharted GA but it takes up almost all of my card space. I want to update Escape Plan, but I need almost half of my card space free. It is very frustrating.

Are there some Rogue-like games on Vita ?
Future or current ?
Currently playing FTL, and damn I would love to get this on iPad/Vita.
Rogue-like games are so perfect for this machine.

I think for a decent digital experience, 16 GB right now is the sweet spot in terms of usability/price. 4gb really is enough if you are willing to go almost entirely retail, with smaller indies from the store, but obviously, since you are talking about uncharted, this is not what you have in mind. If I were you though, I will wait for the next capacity bump before I buy a bigger card. It should be cheaper then.

agreed and I think Vita vision is best with shake to collect coins

I think so. Really enjoyed them. I got them at the end of the game which is fine but they do take place within the story timeline (each one just briefly says at the start when the events take place). Plus they unlock costumes so it might be an idea to get them now.

Yup its pretty terrible

Carl will love you for saying this

Everyone agrees with you...... you may as well accept it and just get a 32 gig card anyway like the rest of us suckers. And they do it because money.

I completed escape plan and thought it was OK. I later bought the dlc when it was dirt cheap... however I forgot I had uninstalled the game. This meant no save data as I wasn't ps+ member at the time so I would have to complete it again to get access to the DLC. Couldn't be bothered and didn't reinstall. Have to say I never felt to bothered.

As for Uncharted I really enjoyed it and got a plat for it. very much worth it. Maybe when you have finshed what you are playing you should do a back up to a ps3 or pc and then wipe the card. install uncharted and finish it. Then restore to your back up to get everyting else back.

My answers above

Rogue-like games are so perfect for this machine.

I guess Tokyo Jungle on PSM is rogue like? Probably the closest thing I can think of on the system and it's dirt cheap.

Yeah its kinda rogue-likey. I have had a lot of fun with it. However its not random levels so its more of a play it now and then game.

Spelunky is on its way soon though.

Would love dungeons of dreadmore on my vita.

Apparently the PSP game ZHP is a good one.

ZHP is pricey at $20 and requires a PS3 but it's the best roguelike for Vita.

I'm having a blast with it.

I am now playing my second playthrough in Tactics Ogre LUCT, awesome game. After taking a rest of the genre, I am thinking to get Front Mission 3, I blame Pacific Rim for that.

Pacific Rim is also the reason I'm replaying FM3 :lol

They're not current but I highly recommend Cladun and Cladunx2 for PSP (2 has to be purchased on the webstore now, for some reason). Especially if you can enjoy 2D games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CV1Tfvx9GVE

They're lighthearted and accessible, and though some of the character buffing systems can seem obtuse at first, the game offers a lot of depth and play value.

You can even make your own characters, dood:

I know we all speculate and dream about certain genres on the Vita - but what Roguelikes would be the best fit?

They are 'pick up and play' by their very nature - but could the system (and its userbase) accommodate: Rogue Legacy, Dredmore, FTL, Spelunky etc?

Okay so it looks like I'm interested in Cladun now, then.

Not on the EU store at all. The only Dept Heaven games out on the EU store are Gungnir (published by Atlus USA) and Riviera (Published by 505 Games - I think)

I think so. Just don't release them all at once. All 4 play very differently as well.

Man Disgea is kind of awful...

I dont think I "get it" or I'm just bad at the game but...I dont like it all.

As a series, Disgaea can be very hit or miss. If you're someone that cannot stand grinding or (relatively) repetitive gameplay, it likely isn't for you.

It took quite a while for the first Disgaea to click with me. I was reeled in by the endearing cast and humorous dialogue, which is what kept me going until I "got" the gameplay.

Its a SRPG, if you dont like that genre then you will probably hate Disgaea because its at the extreme end. For anyone new to srpgs i usually would suggest ff tactics to start. If you like that move to tactics ogre and then if you have 1000's of hours to spare, love to grind move to Disgaea.

So i bought Growlanser and i had already bought lego batman vita last week. I was going to use whats left in my wallet for lego batman ps3 while its still on sale and Force Unleashed 2 (liked the first one, yet to play this, its five bucks come on). Im debating skipping lego batman ps3 and getting Gungnir instead. Should I? I have a huge backlog on both systems so its not about immediacy but what will be on sale again later or cheaper. Gungnir i have to get digital so im at the whim of Grace Chen and i can see Lego Batman under 10 somewhere for black friday.

:lol It's like I've said in the past: "Grind in SRPG clothing." Either you want to grind, or you don't. There's no hit or miss with this. It's a grind treadmill.

Anyway, Virtue's Last Reward nearly done. But these stupid endings with the same lines won't let me fucking skip them so it takes two hours longer than it should to get to the endings to unlock the story locks to continue to go through the game. So stupid.

(And I'm not really liking the story but since it's a relatively easy platinum I'm working my way through it)

you're not alone. I love SRPGs like Tactics Ogre and FF Tactics but I could just never really get into disgaea. They seem like fine games, but just not my thing. I like a more traditional experience, I guess. Seems like a lot of people enjoy them a lot though.

So uh, I wish we could get that oceanhorn iOS game on Vita, it looks really good and a game like that NEEDS buttons. Who's even making it? Do they have a twitter?

I tried VLR and i think i was on the old man path and ran into one of these locks and said to be continued and sent me back to beginning frustrated the hell out of me and put it down. How does the locks work, do i have to go through that path all over again?

Rayman Origins is so awesome! Got the cart on a pretty good Amazon deal of 16.99. It looks phenomenal on the OLED screen and is one of the most solid platformers I've played on the vita.

I hear that there is going to be a sequel eventually. True?

If you bring up the flowchart, you can actually select any point along a path that you've already cleared to skip straight it. This is a core gameplay mechanic which will require you to read dialogue you've already seen in other paths. However, you can use the "auto-skip" function to fast forward and the game will give you control again when new dialogue is encountered.

For locks, you will need to explore other paths and you will then get relevant information from them to bypass the lock.

Rayman Legends is coming out in the first week of September.

I've never really felt like getting into the Disgaea series with it looking like Laharl only stars in the first game. With D2 coming out I'm interested again, but I'm not sure if I should just wait for the inevitable Vita port down the line..

Ah ok. Thanks, i will probably pick it back up then. If i had to replay i would be out.

I heard conflicting reports about the quality of this game. Hmm, care to drop a little review?

Yeah, Dokuro is very, very good. It's not perfect, but the complete package is excellent. Catchy (but repetitive) music; a lovely and unique art style; a very charming, simple story; it can get quite challenging too and there's a boatload of content. Too much, some might say, but I wouldn't worry about that as you can get your money's worth easily, even if you don't get to the end.

there are a few questionable design decisions to be sure, and the difficulty curve is less of a curve and more all over the place, but yeah. I think it's a must-buy if you like puzzle games.

The only Disgaea protagonist I didn't immediately take a liking to was Mao. His gradual character development did eventually help change my opinion of him.

I was kinda shocked when I encountered my first lock and had the same reaction as you. Once I found out the flowchart could actually be interacted with, I applauded the developers for actually giving us such a convenient mechanic,

2 and 4 are still great games though, well so is 3 but the story kinda lacks. Laharl gets his why am I not the main character cameo in those games. :)

I personally gonna play D2 on PS3, if they had a Vita version on release, I would have gotten that but I just can't wait to be reunited with the original cast. :)

cast or not, disgaea D2 on ps3 because there is a nice LE, skip the DLC and then get it on the vita with all of the dlc for less than the dlc would have cost you on the ps3...

that is how you do disgaea games as a disgaea fan that doesn't want to feel like buying the vita version is a waste :P

Oh my goodness. MY FRIEND. The sequel, Rayman Legends, is due out at the beginning of September. Origins had a little over 60 levels, Rayman Legends has OVER 120 LEVELS. There's a challenge mode where every day there's a new challenge (collect 300 lums as fast as you can, do this platforming challenge in this time, etc) where you can compete against your friends and the world. The Vita is the only platform that has all the gameplay that the Wii U version has (there are some levels that use touchscreen to control a little feller where you do things to help the AI character get through the level properly). The Vita version actually even has 5 EXCLUSIVE levels!

Trailer. It says 90 levels, but the trailer at E3 for the game said 120.

Yeah boy.
Can't wait!!

But don't take my word for it. I played the silent hill demo and it really wasn't my cup of tea, personally, though fellow gaffer 2+2=5 swears it it good.
I really liked it, but as i always say it has its faults, it's not for everyone and if one expects a survival horror or a dungeon crawler then he will hate it for sure, but if one likes original games and plays it for what it is then there are good chances that he will like it imo.
In the end it's not perfect but imo it's underrated, overlooked and overhated though.

The idea of silent hill book of memories has huge potential imo, i would like to see it better developed in a sequel with more complex and less dungeon-esque levels that look and feel more like survival horror-esque levels and some general improvements.
Think of a sequel with levels that look like the ones in dead nation but still randomly generated, it would be awesome imo.
Oh man now i want it :(

Aksys has announced Sei Maddou Monogatary for 2014 in America. That game has random generated dungeons and loot.

I'm probably going to double dip on the digital version of Hatsune Miku Project Diva f. Then all of my games except for Dynasty Warriors Next will be digital. :D
