Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | July 2013 | Slow Month, Fast Games

I'm assuming I should just buy Rogue Legacy on Steam and not wait around for months for it on Vita right?
Is that just severe wishful thinking, or has there been word of it? Games like that are very Vita-ready.

Total Recoil is pretty fun tbh but I've only just started. I can already feel the analogues helping so much.

I took a photo to show it best I could (quite late here):

They really blend well and only stand out like that when you're really close to them, like the camera was for the shot, look at the nub in the distance if the first one looks too big, it's not bad at all, I know some of you guys like to keep your vitas slick (anti nyko grip).

It's a tiny little rubber cap, really tight fit and fits the form smuggly.

What are those called and where can I buy them?

Cool, that'll be the day: when I see a new indie PC game I want, but can always count on a Vita version to be there or shortly follow.

Rogue Legacy is amazing and is much better suited for the vita. But who knows if/when it will come. It seems these indie ports take atleast 6 months.... and I believe he just contacted them yesterday.

Vita analog grips? I'm not sure tbh I think people are still hunting for the right version, I posed an ebay link for the UK one on the previous page but I doubt you'll need to import.

I just need some that aren't hard plastic, no one seems to know what the right ones are. Import shipping + UK exchange rate makes the ones you posted a little unreasonable.

A shame, that.
I'd buy it in an instant for $15 on Vita.
At the moment, I'm waiting for a steam sale.

Are you sure you aren't stretching them hard enough? It's just for placing them on initially...yours clip on?

Yes, mine are pretty rigid. They are not squishy like the ones in the youtube video I linked.

I'm thinking I have to buy 2 of them to get matching covers. What a pain. The package says it's got 8 pieces in there, 2 d-pad covers and 6 analog covers -- but in the picture, none of them match. I'm wondering if I should just grab 2 packages for an extra $2 shipping instead of paying another $5+ when I get the first pack.

Screw it, I ordered 2. I'll let you know if they're any good.
If I have extra, I may give them away in here or something, who knows.

Says who? Everyone's been recommending Bluecell since the dawn of time.

Me. The bluecell ones I have are hard plastic. There's no give to them. If I tried to stretch them like the guy in the youtube video, they'd most likely crack and break. I think bluecell revised their caps at some point and the new ones just aren't the same.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with product quality change December 14, 2012
By Rontuaru
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I am writing this review to mainly inform interested buyers that many of the higher ratings for this product were probably written when the company was making these out of silicone. I saw a video showing how to install them and the covers that the person was using in the video stretched easily and fit snugly over the sticks. As of receiving this product today, all of the covers were made of hard plastic. It was a pain to install them and I was concerned for the integrity of my analog sticks due to the amount of pressure required to snap them on. Maybe I got a dud, but it's more likely that the company has changed the material of the stick covers since the earliest reviews. I see there are other more recent reviews here that mention the covers are made of hard plastic.

On the plus side, they do feel good after installation, and still serve their job of protecting the stick and giving you a little more grip on the analog. They are decent, but definitely not deserving of such high ratings.

One more, whynot:
This review is from: Bluecell Set of 8 Pcs Game Control/Controller Joystick Pad Cover for Sony Playstation PSV PS Vita (Video Game)
A little pricey for a bunch of ABS plastic pieces that snap onto the analog sticks. I paid the extra thinking they were silicone grips that you pull over the analog sticks but in fact they are just hard pieces of plastic that snap on. If you want the plastic pieces, you can get them for cheaper from other sellers/retailers. As others have mentioned, I didn't bother using the D-Pad grips because they are just attached to them with glue but I knew I wasn't going to use them anyway.

Ah I see yeah, that's not right. Goodluck! Weird they don't match, I do remember reading a review on amazon that said that too.

I just bought a 3DS

Forgive me, vitabros. For I have sinned.

I got one for my birthday and have been stockpiling the games I wanted into a backlog... but I haven't yet really spent a lot of time with it (a few hours, maybe, with Luigi's Mansion 2). Seems solid, but I usually want to use my Vita.

That's cool. We are polyhandheldlists in this thread.

Just don't do a toto and leave us ;)

I haven't gotten any games yet lol, I'm still playing VLR on my Vita and didn't want any more distractions. But yeah, I plan on staying with my Vita too. It's probably my favorite handheld ever (next to the PSP)

Unit13 and Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus seem like really good pick ups from ps+ this week.

I'm already hooked on U13.

This felt nice to get a reply from Rockstar:

Hello Shad0w59,

Thanks for your email. Since we haven't announced any plans for the Vita, I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you. However, we do appreciate that you took the time to send us your thoughts.

Cheers,
Rockstar Games

Hi mouthoff,

Any plans for Vita games?

Thanks,
Shad0w59

So far I have managed to resist the temptation to fork over 50 bucks to join PS+

I am not the only one in this thread that managed to do so, right? Hahaha.

Anyways, for those of you who are interested (*crickets*), nowadays my handheld gaming routine is as thus: playing Animal Crossing for 3DS for about... 2 hours or so when I plop on my bed after work, followed with a bit of Muramasa + Hotline Miami. I mainly dedicated my night playing session with Dark Arisen though...

I sort of kind of wish Vita has a 'daily life' game with a vibe like Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon... I will jump all over it in a heartbeat, I am a sucker for those types of games.

Ah well...

A Red Dead game for Vita will be awesome.

Samurai & Dragons is feeling like this sort of game for me. It's a strange blend of Facebook game, card battler with mini dungeon crawler. I don't quite understand what I'm doing yet, but I have been logging in for 10 days now. Might be worth trying if it's out in your region, it's free to play.

I don't think it's out in the US yet though - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=510871

I play Treasures of Montezuma daily too.

"Daily Life" does not mean "Games I will be playing daily," hahaha.

Its games like Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, or The Sims. Daily-life simulator, kind of like that :)

Atelier Totori is a little bit like that. Apart from the fantasy RPG elements, you have a daily schedule to keep up with, a long list of ingredients to harvest and tons of items to craft (which don't really factor into your "daily" life however. It mostly just affects the effectiveness of the item in combat or crafting other items.) There's also a friendship score to manage with NPCs.

Of course unlike the games you mentioned, Atelier has a overarching plot and story so it's not quite as open-ended as they are. Plus you play a specific character instead of creating your own.

Is that the Hori hand grips you have? I wanted to get a pair of those early last year, but ended up deciding not to get any grips. I might still.

You like 'em?

You definitely need grips in your life. At least the option, they're cheap and can help so much.

These are the hori ones yep. They are not as quite comfortable as the nyko shaped one [edit- nah they are really nice actually, feel a lot more quality and it's very very comfortable too, sorry it was pretty late here and didn't have it with me], which is great but has its own issues including blocking the charging port.

They are just as unportable.

The sliding mechanism is too loose, but I'm going to try something tonight.

It's very comfortable when you're playing a game not heavy on triggers and you're not holding it too vertically so it doesn't slide down.

In its closed position it's actually really great, only problem is the rear touch pad is harder to reach than with nyko.

All in all I would recommend this, especially for playing at home.

The mechanism feels secure, more so than nyko, but the top locking part has two small hinges that do look a bit frail. It covers up the game card slot and iirc memory card but maybe not, otherwise everything else including top buttons is more accessible.

If adding some tape between the sliding thing makes it stiffer it might be pretty perfect.

It's not as grippy material as the nyko but it feels nicer to me. The nyko feels like...too good. Sort of some magical rubber which is also being absorbed into your hand. Or maybe the dye. I should say my other grip isn't nyko it's pega, but it looks exactly the same.

Anyway with the analog grips it's really something great. Btw that photo makes them look big. It's not. It's like yoga pants tight and 1-2mm thick so when she stretches..erm yeah it's great.

TLDR - YES buy! Easy recommendation, especially for bigger hands and when portability isn't a big factor over comfort. It's not heavy or anything though, the extra weight adds a nice feel to it. Make sure not to get abrasive crap in between the vita and the case (give it a wipe before slotting the vita in).

A Red Dead game for Vita will be awesome.

I'm still hoping on that rumour, on something good from Rockstar eventually.

Well there are 3 harvest moon psp games, boy & girl, hero of the leaf valley and innocent life a futuristic harvest moon.
I think that at least one of them is on the store.

Nailed lvl 47 on Velocity Ultra on the train to work this morning. Just 48 and 49 to go before I have all 50 Perfects.

Yo Vitabros!

IDK if the word got around but Dragon Ball Z : Battle Of Z will support online multiplayer with 4 v 4 battles or a 8 person free for all.

I'll see yall online. Remember to start harvesting your sensu beans...

Never played a dragon ball game before. Now may be a good chance to jump in.

Congrats, any platinum wipeout trophy owner deserves respect! Was there a trick to avoid the grind for the multiplayer ones? I personally stopped a week after doing an hour session of the boring mp modes every day. Is there people still playing?
The multiplayer ones were a bit of a grind but I just picked it up when I had a spare 30 mins or so and just played a few of the missions each time and before long I worked my way through to level 20.

As for people playing there was always a healthy amount of players online.

Alright since Ninja Gaiden didn't turn out to be too hot I'm gonna give Unit 13 a shot. How's that one fare?

Get Hori grips! Ive used it from 2nd week after I got Vita. So big difference w/o grips.
It was pain in the a** to play D3:AoD without grips (ofcourse same to every game). Money well spent.

Referring to 60 frames? the game plays decently and looks great BTW.Unit 13 is pretty fun too, plays well and looks good.

Well Unit 13 was totally worth the full price I paid for it when it came out so yeah its great. The AI is dumb a fuck but its really about working out the patterns to get through the level and then later once you have lvled up some of the characters you go back and 3 star the levels.

First game I platted I think.

I also bought Ninja Gaiden so PS+ was kinda poop for me this month but great for anyone who doesn't have those. Never completed NG though. Got near the end but I found the game more frustrating that fun later one. The camera and platforming parts of that game are so bad. Combat is good but other bits put me off it.

Naw, referring to the game playing like absolute garbage. Controls were shit, camera was horrid, movement was way too loose. Didn't like it one bit.

Currently playing the first mission in Unit 13 and it looks really good! Controls seem to be tight as well. Seems to be a fun pick up and play game. The levels seem big and they said something about exploration, but I'll focus on getting through them for now.

I bought Ys seven and Oath in Felghana yesterday. Should I play them in any order or can I just start with wichever of the two?

well the levels range from being pretty big to some really short stealth missions. The veriety of missions types is really good and the different classes really help make each missions play differently. pick up and play is the perfect description of it. I played it over several months on and off in short sessions when I fancied some tactical shooting.

My tip for three starring (although its not the only way) -
Lvl up the guy who gets a bonus for headshots with the pistol and just kill everyone that way. Points galore.

Duly noted!
This game has now officially interrupted my breakfast.

The answer for question "Should I buy Tactics Ogre" is always yes ;) Also VC2 is highly recomended (after you finished VC1 on PS3 due to huge spoilers)

I literally just popped the same game in my Vita this morning.

I remember playing the demo of it last year and being really impressed with it.

It seems good so far. Had to stop after the second mission though, because I really need to eat haha

Thanks guys .

I tried Tactics Ogre years ago (on PSP) but I had not a good feeling.
The game seemed slow and confusing to me. Am I wrong?
So many characters on screen that I was not able even to split between friends and enemies... :/

It is not a good game to play if you don't have the patience for slow, deliberate play. At times it can be quit grindy too, so you might want to avoid it if you don't favor grinding RPGs.
