Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | July 2013 | Slow Month, Fast Games

It is not a good game to play if you don't have the patience for slow, deliberate play. At times it can be quit grindy too, so you might want to avoid it if you don't favor grinding RPGs.

How does the game handle EXP gain?
I've always been really interested in Tactics Ogre, but I've always been put off by SRPGs that let characters only gain EXP after a kill. The way Final Fantasy Tactics Advance handled it was perfect IMHO.

It's been a while since I played it but I believe you gain EXP for not only killing / hitting an opponent but for using your skills / magic as well.

For me it's the best SRPG on the PSP/Vita. There are frustrating bits when it comes to protecting NPCs in some missions but that's about it.

Thanks guys .

I tried Tactics Ogre years ago (on PSP) but I had not a good feeling.
The game seemed slow and confusing to me. Am I wrong?
So many characters on screen that I was not able even to split between friends and enemies... :/

If you are not experienced in sRPG genre I suggest starting with Jeanne D'arc - it's also very nice and isn't too complicated which makes it great introduction to the genre.

You get experience for whole class of characters if someone from that class was in the battle. It doesn't matter what he/she did in there (hence why you can later sacrifice 1 slot for new classes for them to catch up with your core team).

Oh man, that's exactly how FFTA did it. You just made me that much more excited to get it!

Whoa, that sounds even better. Might get this next month or so, then.

Nice suggestion.
A few month ago I beated the game.
I've enjoyed it sooo much. Great direction, art and battles.
So next step should be Tactic Ogre?

It's a great game if you have the patience for it :)

I say just go for it. It's more complicated than Jeanne D'Arc, and some of the mechanics are WTF-worthy (like the buy/equipment interface, dunno what they're thinking with this), but overall it's a great game.

How about Final Fantasy Tactics PSP first? It's a little more accessible than Ogre I think. They're both awesome anyway.

I do like Tactics Ogre but some things really annoy me. Mainly, every mission that has some NPC that you appear to be able to save, the first thing they do is charge the enemy and die before I can get close enough to save them. Am I doing something wrong.

I am about 22 hours in, played on and off since I got it over a year ago.

edit. Got stealth bastard on a humble bundle (so nexus 7 and pc). Its pretty cool. A great pick up and play game.

Not sure I tried FFT:WotL and it just didn't feel right after TO. It felt inferior in every aspect - especially user interface.

@ OmegaTreeFish - hmm I'd say you are doing something wrong - I had to restart those missions a few times but IIRC (it was 2011 when i played TO) the key was sending fast units asap to offer more targets for enemies and healer with sling to throw healing potion into that protected character to save them from dying early.

I think playing this game in small doses has hindered me getting to grips properly with the mechanics. Don't even remember a sling thing existing. I push all my units forward straight away. I guess I have hardly any fast ones.

Maybe I will just wait for a time I have nothing to play and start fresh and go full on into the game. Its pretty deep and I would need to devote solid time to it I think.

FFT is the poor man's Tactics Ogre, but it's still a great game.

That's why I suggested playing it BEFORE Tactics Ogre, like I did :p
It's simpler, linear and less messy in the equipment/buy/sell field so it would spare the "disappointment" of going from TO to FFT.

Is stealth Inc just a renamed stealth bastard?

If so whats so poor about it? Only done the first to sets of levels but it seems to work fine to me?
Runs poorly, loads slowly, and the controls are janky.

I'm guessing Game Maker Studio's cross platform compatibility isn't quite there yet. Then again, it's Android so what can you expect.

Huh. On my nexus 7 the frame rate is a little low but everything else seems pretty good to me. The run left and right controls are really good as well.

guacamelee is amazing, having such a blast with it

I really need to give that game another shot.
I shamefully gave up on this part

I feel like I am missing out a lot by giving up so early in the game.

Completely out of left field but do we know if Killzone Mercenaries will be a PSN Downloadable?

I cant remember the last Vita release that did not also get a digital release on day one. Digital is the only way I purchase Vita games honestly, for a portable system it just makes too much sense not to have to carry around all those carts.

Really need bigger cards though......

Arn't all games available on PSN?

Game really is amazing. I really really enjoyed it and its been a while since i really got into a 2d game.

Yeah, Sony's ambition with the Vita seems to be to have retail and PSN downloads to run as much in parallel as possible. And considering KZ:M is a Sony published game, I'd be SHOCKED if the PSN version wasn't day and date with the retail release.

It's my #1 or 2 for the year thus far. Really great game.

Also, that part is nothing compared to later segments. ;-)

So good.

Once you get those sections down they're really straightforward. Going through that section on hard took no time at all.

Spelunky, Stealth Inc and Lone Survivor all his Vita this month.

That's great to hear! I'll be sure to grab Spelunky and look into Stealth Inc and Lone Survivor more and see if I'd be interested in them or not.
Yo Vitabros!

IDK if the word got around but Dragon Ball Z : Battle Of Z will support online multiplayer with 4 v 4 battles or a 8 person free for all.

I'll see yall online. Remember to start harvesting your sensu beans...

If I don't have net issues with it (as I do most online games) then I'll see you online!
I'm really pumped for the ability to play a Dragon Ball Z game online with the option for more than 1v1, it's gonna make for some fun matches.

Yeah ditto. It's prettymuch guaranteed to be up day one.

well the levels range from being pretty big to some really short stealth missions. The veriety of missions types is really good and the different classes really help make each missions play differently. pick up and play is the perfect description of it. I played it over several months on and off in short sessions when I fancied some tactical shooting.

My tip for three starring (although its not the only way) -
Lvl up the guy who gets a bonus for headshots with the pistol and just kill everyone that way. Points galore.

Agreed. Unit 13 is a blast to play, the screenshots of the game before the Vita's release were some of the first "wow" shots for me. I loved the game, and platinumed it with joy. The mission variety makes the game really great. Memorizing the enemy patterns is the name of the game here. Get that down, and you'll feel like John Rambo in no time. OmegaTreeFish'es tip is good, and I have two for you as well.
Level up the guy you use for stealth missions. At a certain level, you unlock a silencer for everyone. Reallly helps out. Also, using the enemies traps for kills nets you crazy points as well.

Anyway with the analog grips it's really something great. Btw that photo makes them look big. It's not. It's like yoga pants tight and 1-2mm thick so when she stretches..erm yeah it's great..

MMMmmmm yoga pants, I like the sound of this. I have been dying to know this too, thank you! I have finite room in my case for my analogue sticks, and I had been worrying the covers might make the Vita not fit. I ended up ordering some late last night; the set that comes with 2 dpads, and 6 different stick covers, none matching. Soooo I bought 2. I believe Corrosivefrost did the same.

Need a PSN sale on EDF 2017...

So. Much. This. I was hoping with the release of EDF 4 in JP this week, PS+ would at least do a discount, if not the instant game collection. 2 months ago or so, I saw the price silently drop to $29.99, and I still waited on it for some reason. I have been eyeing it every week since.

I just bought a 3DS. Forgive me, vitabros. For I have sinned.

As others have said too, you are no sinner! I also have a Monster Hunter Machine 3DS. I have a decent library, but all I play is Monster Hunter - I have about 200 hours on my save. Been going through 999 as well, before I jump into VLR. You should play 999 too, despite already going through VLR!!! I really enjoy the system, it has plenty of very fun games. The Vita is still my go to system, I'd say it's my favorite piece of tech I own, but I simply cannot live without my MoHun.

Fuck the ragequitters on Mahvel. I kinda understand quitting on Ranked, but player matches?

I should be on rank 7 by now (Currently rank 8, 90-70). And Esoteric, let's play sometime.

I was stuck here yesterday! It was really frustrating. But, soon you will get a power that will make that part a little more bearable if you go back there. Still finding some of the platforming stuff pretty hard though.
