Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

Not sure about FPS, but:
Subnative resolution:
- P4G
- Uncharted GA
- MGS HD collection
- Gravity Rush

Native resolution
- Wipeout (variable resolution, but native majority of the time. Drops to subnative every now and again)
- Rayman Origins
- Disgaea 3

30 FPS for all games on the list except
Rayman and Disgaea, which are 60.

For resolution, you can follow this handy rule of thumb:
Vita original - usually native(with few exceptions), or at least with AA
PS3 port - usually native, often with AA
Wii port - native with AA
NDS port - native with AA
PSP port - native with AA
PC indie port - native (with AA if applicable)
...
PS2 port(or remake) - subnative with no AA

Thanks a lot for the replies guys. It gives me a nice point of reference.

I thought I would not be able to fully enjoy games that are at sub-native res, yet now I see that I didn't even notice it on some of the games which I actually enjoyed the most (Uncharted GA, P4G, MGS HD collection, Gravity Rush ).

Edit: Top of the page. Buy P4G while it's on sale. Some indie love: Get Lone Survivor and play it with headphones in the dark. And since a fellow GAFfer mentioned it shortly ago, also get Legend of Dragoon. I haven't played it yet, but it seems like a nifty little hidden gem of a game.

Just watched some gameplay of Arkham Origins Blackgate. Looks terrible. I know they're claiming 3DS isn't lead platform, but nahh - i don't believe them. Just recently finished the first two Arkham games on PS3 and was completely blown away. Hope this one doesn't become the black sheep!

It seem have better textures and cutscenes are native resolution.

I guess Sony doesn't like money. >:| Media Go worked supported it.

No, like your other "friend" they're doing you a "favor".

Besides, you should probably have a PS3. They're dirt cheap now, your PS+ sub (you should have one) will net you a ton of games for free, and there's an extensive library of quality exclusives which are mostly dirt cheap by now. :P

I believe so...here's how I understand it:
If you go to
Sonyentertainmentnetwork.com
Click on a PSX or PSP game you bought and it'll be downloaded to your PC to use with Content Manager.
i haven't used it myself though, but its worth a try with a small sized PSX game.

EDIT: BEaten, but I think Vita compatible games at least can be transfered via PC?

Nope. Buy a PS3 or you can't get the games in "limbo".

Amazon Warehouse had a copy of Dragon's Crown for only $30, so I decided to just go with that! Thank you Killer is Dead for having a good trade in value!

Excellent. I have it digitally, of course, and it will remain on my card. So when you get it and unlock online, let me know if you want to play -- I'd love to bust out my Amazon/Elf/Wizard/Dwarf and level them up.

My fighter will be left at the inn, forever alone.

I thought it looked okay from the E3 demo -- I'm not on the day 1 bandwagon, but I'm curious to see how it pans out. I'm especially curious as to how they're translating the freeflow combat system into 2D.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsuKRX2w15I

Looks decent to me here too... I thought it was a prequel, not a sequel to Arkham Origins. That's unfortunate. It won't be a day 1 purchase for me then, since I'll need to get and play Arkham Origins first.

Batman looks pretty good from that video... I can't wait to have a batman title on vita. My only concern is the overall speed of it - especially the combat... It looks a little laboured.

Hope it doesn't feel that way when I'm playing it.

They said it's running on a modified version of the Bluepoint engine. Looks fine to me, just not top tier Vita material. I don't like Arkham City, though, tbh. I have a feeling I'll like the sidescrolling take on it more.

If they've captured Arkham Asylum/City right, I don't really think the 2D should matter.
But hey, I hope you like it anyway -- and I really hope that, for fans of the Arkham games, it comes off well.

So after owning a Vita since August, It really is a fine piece of hardware. OLED screen just looks fantastic and the dual analog sticks are just perfect. I always longed for it when I used to play on my PSP.
Started with the 4gb to jumping to the 8gb to being lucky to grab the last 32gb at BB for $48 this week. So glad too, cause I can fully dive into my PS Plus back log without juggling how much space I have left.
Man, I was planning to buy physical copies for all games on my Vita, but seeing the benefits of having it all on one memory card made switch me to buying Digital copies instead and save the Physical copies option for big games above 3gb.

First and only physical game I got was Lumines: ES. Huge fan of Lumines 1&2 on PSP so I had to get it. Got 100% on the trophies but really really really dissappointed that there is no Genki Rockets at all. Like Wtf, how can you release a Lumines game without Genki Rockets? smh
Gravity Rush was good. Really enjoyed the art and falling/gravity mechanics in the game with the exception of sliding cause I couldn't get it to work. Looking forward to Gravity Rush 2.
Velocity Ultra is awesome. Really happy I won it in kassatsu's contests. It's perfect for playing in short bursts.
Guacamelee! is a really good too. I don't really play 2d sidescrollers often but doing the combos and stuff really grabbed me. Even went so far to get the platinum for it.

Youtube is what I'm starting to use the most though. Started to just subscribe to channels on my Laptop to then hit the bed or couch with the vita and watch videos. lol
And since the latest PS Vita fw update enabling media streaming, I've been streaming music and anime from my laptop to my Vita too. So good man especially with OLED. I'm start reppin the vita everywhere I go now.

I'll be down to play once I unlock the online. I'll be going witha Elf at first, so I'll see how that goes

She's one of the tougher ones, I've found, because she has a lack of physical attacks. You'll be using slide a lot (down + []).

I'd have to boot up to tell you which skills to unlock fast, but you'll want the one that's about spirit magic quickly... and the one for increased quiver size so you can hold more arrows.

Save up a few points so when backstab opens up you can get the holdout dagger skill too -- you'll want to also pick up any weapons you find in the field -- daggers especially, but any crossbow, etc. She's got the highest DEX so she does the most damage with them and they help to make up for her limited/weak attacks when not using arrows.

I think the 3 toughest are probably Wizard, Elf, Amazon.
Amazon is ridiculous because she's like going 1:99 in Soul Sacrifice, so if you push your luck with the adrenaline/berserk skills, you'll be fighting at low life most of the time and can die in one hit.

Ahhhhh. Fooled myself into purchasing a second 32 GB card from BB. Still not 100% I'm going to keep it...but.....why the heck not?

I do have a question about multiple accounts though. Not your average question. Before, at launch, I remember setting up the Vitarino to my JP account, and dl'ing a bunch of demos. Then I deactivated the account, and switched to my 'Murican account, but did not format the card. I could play all my US games, but I could play my JP demos as well. Once the memory card was removed though, the demos stopped working.

Is this still possible? I am looking to transfer most everything over, but I want to put PSO2 on my new card with all my "must haves". I really want to play with a friend in Malaysia, but all they have is a pc, and my pc is not up to snuff at allllll. I am looking to avoid the hassle of card switching...and going through the backing up process over and over...aand I guess losin my useless near miles....aaand I already lost 95k....aaaand for some reason it hurt to see them go away....

You're forced to format the memory card to use a new account with it. Sony removed that loophole with a patch a long time ago.

I'm still irritated at the fact R* released VC and III on iOS/Android for dirt cheap when there is a thing called the Vita.

Elephant turds. Thanks for the help though.
Because the 64gb is coming.
Very true, I suppose we will eventually get te 64, but the question is when? And the price will be no doubt steep. 48 seems like a steal. Worst case, I could likely sell my 32s to help pay for the 64 if I feel upgrading. Having two memory cards on the same account doesn't seem bad, as no intro needs to be watched for the swap.

I'm a big sucker for deals. Owning this glorious handheld has gotten me addicted to the deal, I've bought more games than I ever imagined. PS Plus sure doesn't help. A while back I bought a couple of 4 gb cards. Why? I got them for about 5 a pop. I need help!

Yup, Play-Asia reopened their reservations and I ordered a 64GB for $130, shipped.

Nippon-Yasan -- $103 shipped.

Memory cards are too tiny for their own good.
My friend just got a 32gb from the BB deal and while he was swapping things around and getting ready to take the 8gb to trade to GS, he almost lost it.

Oh yea, them shits are tiny. Lucky for me, my PDP case has 2 slots for memory cards :D I'll be carrying 72 gb in that, and then I can slide in the mini Sony game case/memory card case (I picked up at Target for about a buck fifty) somewhere. Bringing the total to 80 gb capable.

Hopefully your friend didn't lose it, and got some meager amount from the GS. That Nippon deal isn't too bad.

Considering famousmortimer said it's not coming to NA in 2013, I figured yeah, it was. I'll probably hold on to the 32GB for my eventual VitaTV.

He didn't lose it, he took the $7 or so like a champ, I think.

Are you sure? I remember a few months back I could still do so. By resetting the vita without a card in it.
Well this gives me a tad bit of hope. I think I may try it tomorrow. I would love to be able to play PSO more frequently, since the 2 hours I put in where my first PSO experience. I rather enjoyed it, and would like more.

You can do that, sure.

But there's no way to put JP or EU on the same card as a NA account.

It is 1 account per card at the moment, period.

This means you need multiple cards if you don't want to format yours (which you now conceivably have with 2 32gb cards, at the least.

You do have to reset the vita to factory defaults and then pop the other card I think. And you do this so you can change the account tied to the Vita.

--

I did the math and if I bought Rayman Legends, Lone Survivor (at the 11.69 current price for PS+) and Killzone Mercenary digital before the month's end, I'd hit $101.15 or so... which would get me $20 back.
I'm really torn on Lone Survivor on Vita... It doesn't quite seem like my kind of game, but I want to support it.  I own it on PC, but $11.69 seems like too much to double dip...and Killzone, well, I'll have the extra 3.3gb on my new 64gb card to get it digitally, but I'd kind of rather keep one game that's the max card size in my slot -- it's not a big hassle since I don't have to change cards or anything, so switching to digital there is kind of pointless.

Are there any other games coming out this month that I could sub in for Lone Survivor or Killzone Mercenary? What's the forecast like for October releases, outside of the Batman Arkham game?
Right now I'm sitting at $17.48. I suppose I could just grab Rayman and it would put me at $53.47, which is enough to get at least $10 back... I'm just looking for other things that are coming out so I can budget my spending and figure out the best plan to maximize my multples of $10 back.

Persona 4 Golden is very addicting. Wow, i bought it yesterday and couldnt get my hands of the Vita.

Is my first Persona game, so i want to ask, are the stories from previous titles related to P4G or is it like Final Fantasy and with every game comes a new story?

3rd game is referenced in 4th but they're pretty standalone

I'm LOVING Wind Waker HD on Wii U. It's incredible. I wish there was a Vita game like that. I've never played a 3D Zelda game before so it's all new to me.

I don't know which "friend" you're talking about...?

I do have a PS3. It threatened to YLOD. Been in the closet for over a year. Can't be assed to take it apart to apply thermal paste because it looks more cumbersome than taking apart a PC (the latter I don't mind). Not gonna put up with all the effort to clean, paste, setup, update FW just to buy one game that had no good reason to be not available for direct download.

True, no two accounts can be active at once, but I know I did have JP demos on my US account. Did for a while. There seems to be very differing opinions here all around. Hopefully tomorrow my local marvel
Sessions won't be too long and I'll be able to stay away from GTAO long enough to test this out and to clear the air for the betterment of VitaGaf.

I mean really, that is the most important thing here. Unity. Say it with me brothers and sisters. U-N-I-T-Y!!!!!

I haven't played the Infinite Moment, but it looks like it's going to have the same battle system.

IMO, they should have waited for a new anime season or something.

I just saw this. It's looking pretty awesome if you ask me. Especially the battle system. A bit bummed though, since most likely we'll never see it here. Will give Vita a nice boost though.

I'm LOVING Wind Waker HD on Wii U. It's incredible. I wish there was a Vita game like that. I've never played a 3D Zelda game before so it's all new to me.

Yea. I love Wind Waker. The closest thing I can think of on the Vita is Gravity Rush, but that's fairly different.

If you've never played it, the closest thing you can get to 3D Zelda on Vita is Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver in the PSOne Classics... but it's pretty dated, much darker, and has to be transferred from a PS3. It came out about 6 months or so after Ocarina of Time, and helped pioneer streaming loadtimes on disc-based games. Has a great story and voice acting, cool atmosphere and world, an interesting dimension-shifting mechanic, and some solid puzzles.

Vita does need Okami.

Oh, I agree with you and I think my gripes about Crash/Spyro/R-Type fall into the same category, licensing issues or no.

And I could swear you were the dude who "finished Legend of Dragoon" but not really as a "friend" of yours came over and did you a "favor" with game genie codes that overwrote your save file or something like that. Apologies if I got you mixed up.

Frost don't you have a physical version of killzone mercenary? you double dipping?

I do, but the "all digital" OCD would like me to move Killzone to digital too... I'd rather save the space though -- just thinking It would be $26 for the digital copy if I consider the $10 I get back as a discount. So with a lack of better titles known to be coming to Vita by the end of October, it seemed one of the few options if I wanted to eclipse $100 for $20 back.

Yeah, that was before the "single account per memory card" patch, I'd wager.

Vita needs Okami

I'm not a huge fan of Okami -- and I heard a lot of people say that the Wii version was kind of awkward with using the wiimote to control the celestial brush... but I think a touchscreen would work better and would love if Okami HD (not sure why I bought it... especially since you can't turn off the voice effect without turning off all sound effects) would come to Vita as a cross-buy title.

A TCG would be fine with me, especially if it's filled with Okami art. I love TCG's though.

Never played Okami on the Wii, I have it for PS3 and it's a fantastic game. Gives super Zelda vibes in both gameplay and overall aesthetic feel. The brush seems like it would have been easier with a remote? I don't know, and I don't have a move controller. Touch screen brush would clearly be the best though.

Legacy of Kain has always seemed interesting to me, but I think one of things I really am liking about Wind Waker is the colorful art style. It's really inviting.

I wanted to like Wind Waker, I really did... but I don't.
It's too short and just when it gets going, you get strung along on a fetch quest and then fight the final boss. Add to that an overworld that felt barren to me and where traveling anywhere is both a bore and a chore...

It's probably my least favorite Zelda, but I'm glad you're enjoying it and have a reason to dust off your WiiU. :)

I played the PS2 version on my original 60gb BC PS3.
Analogs were fine for me. Game was waaaaaaay too long though.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2008/04/18/okami-head-to-head?page=3

I'd definitely give it another go on Vita, for sure, as long as they gave the option to turn off the fucking Charlie Brown voices.

Speaking of Legacy of Kain, I'd die to have that playable on Vita -- I always loved Blood Omen and I got stuck in it back in high school before the Internet was anything like it was today... so I never finished it. It had a really cool 2D Zelda type vibe and it was refreshing back then to have a game be grim and violent... plus, y'know, vampires and destruction and all that.
