Loved this cartoon as a kid, even got the massive part plastic/part die cast metal toy from Santa. Was quite heavy but cool as fuck.

No match for Ulysses though which I can still watch, was never tempted to go back to Voltron for some reason.

I wonder why they never sold Ulysses toys here? Weird as the show was very popular. Monkey Magic as well, bizarre missed opportunity.

Of course I grew up on "Lion" Voltron, but as a kid my mind was blown when I found out there was an alternate Voltron -- one made of vehicles instead of mechanical Lions.

eh, we already got a decent modern Voltron from the Netflix animated show. It even did the mandatory woke elements fairly well.

I don't really expect much from a live action version.

I remember thinking it was okay. I watched three seasons of it think but I literally couldn't tell you what happened at all.

I really enjoyed it.
It's not perfect and it definitely started to run out of steam towards the end, but overall it's a fun show with good characters, nice animation and a good mix of action, humor and a bit of drama.
It has a bit of an Avatar vibe going on as I think it's the same animation studio as Korra and one of the writers/producers of the last airbender worked on it.

And it does the woke stuff pretty well too. Yeah the obligatory multicultural cast is there but it's in a context that makes sense, and yeah the obligatory gay character is there but he's pretty cool and neither his story nor personality are defined by his sexual orientation.

Yeah I think pidge being transgender or non binary was literally like a few lines then it wasn't really brought up again that I remember. I'll get back to it one of these days.

Oh yeah.
Netflix show sucked. So much boring story, not enough giant robot action. I think I watched about 13 episodes and then I was out.

First 5-6 seasons were good, but then it just got lost. They started adding all new characters. The whole Lotor story line just fizzled. Sadly the last few seasons were not that interesting. My kids lost interest and I wasn't complaining.
