Toynami swears they'll have it out by the end of the year, and it looked awesome at Comic Con:

And yes, the lions are die-cast metal :D

This is the version I have from back in the mid 80's except my packaging is called Lionbot. It's completely metal, fires projectiles, has blazing sword and all. The best toy ever.

Except it's called Lionbot and looks crappy..

It looks great in robot form, but the fact that red and blue lion are smaller than the rest is kinda stupid. :/

Still, first "toy" I'll buy in a long-ass time! :D

Matchbox released it in the US as well along with the Armored Fleet Dairugger XV (Vehicle Voltron) and Light Speed Electric God Albegas (Gladiator Voltron) toys even though they never made the Gladiator Voltron series in the US. GoLion will always be the best.

I'm in the US. My dad got one for my brother and I back in the 80's for Christmas. He would never import, so he had to have found it at a toy store. We lived in New Orleans back then and there was only like 1 or 2 large toy stores then. Local stores, no chains.

Yea, that's a knockoff of what Matchbox released in the US in the 80's (and the Japanese original as well):

Oh snap! Vehicle Voltron!

He must have picked it up at Lionel Playworld then? That's where my parents were able to get my Lionbot (I'm from New Orleans). I remember getting Lionbot while my friend next door got the real Voltron. He was pissed becuase I got more accessories than he did. :lol

I still have an original Voltron sitting on my bookshelf in my apartment. It's amazing to see how many people notice it when they first come to my apartment and start gushing over how they loved Voltron when they were little. Same thing with the Transformers.

You guys who had the 80's Lionbot know this isn't the same thing, right? I mean, look at the Black lion. He's not all fat and chubby like Lionbot's version. The legs are more articulate. More detail. This is 10x better than Lionbot.

You know that toy you really wanted as a kid for x-mas but didn't get and from that an infinite hatred grew for Santa and your parents? Thats how voltron x-mas ended for me.

Yah this is an entire new design and loooks much better than the originals... I have two new LJN VOLTRON toys btw... The big fat black cat and a spring loaded or is a battery operated voltron III, I cant remember.. I dont think the demand were that big and still arent for these old toys as they are quite cheap it seems.

Voltron really was the best toy ever. I played with those lions to death as a kid, and even still have 'em, despite being in slightly less-than-mint condition. There was a re-issue of the die-cast Voltron a couple years ago that I didn't even know about until my family got me one for my birthday. It now sits in my cubicle at work. :D
