Want more Cyberpunk? Elysium is on Netflix

I hadn't watched this movie since it came out, checked it out again tonight and it totally fits into the Cyberpunk aesthetic. Like many of you I frigging loved Edgerunners and I'm about halfway through a run through the game on PS5, since I never finished my initial PS4 playthrough back in the day - and man this movie holds up as Cyberpunk side story in all but name.

I only remember a mis-cast Jodie Foster and Matt Damon in a powered exoskelton. It was okay, but I never got a Cyberpunk vibe off it

Yeah same I watched it years ago - watching it again, for sure it has massive Cyberpunk vibes. Maybe not the megacity location but something that happens on the outskirts.

Neill Blomkamp has a really good eye for real-feeling, heavy hitting, industrial looking weaponry and clearly knows how to do and direct VFX heavy shots. He always had so much potential, but I think he would be better as the VFX supervisor/creative director rather than the director on a given movie because he just can't quite seem to make the movie he seems capable of.

Having said that, District 9 is of course great.

i watched it years ago but can't remember anything about it.

in my opinion the only movies that give me the same vibe as 2077 are blade runner, 2049, dredd (2012), akira, total recall (2012).

dredd is a must watch. such a fucking amazing movie.

and the 2049 trailer

Man it visually looked cool and had some decent action, but if I remember right it got pretty corny at the end with the social commentary. But to be fair I haven't seen it since it was theaters, way back.

Judge Dredd and Blade Runner are badass though I'd definitely check those out. Judge Dredd hits the mark pretty well, pretend the judges are MaxTac haha.

If you want a cyberpunk-themed movie, watch Ghost in the Shell. The story is mid at best but the visuals are god tier.

It's not Cyberpunk though, where exactly is the "Punk" in this film?

"Dredd" is the only thing that feels like it could take place in the Cyberpunk universe, and I guess the original Robocop to some degree (and of course the Blade Runner films, but they go without saying).

I didn't play much but the surge reminded me of elysium. Especially the guy from district 9 when he has that bad ass sword at the end that can retract

It was ok (7/10) movie but nothing above that. But I don't really like Matt Damon that much so maybe this is part of my opinion about this movie.
