War Machine (2026, Netflix)

This was awesome. Anybody catch it yet? I'm pretty sure my T levels went up 200 ng/dL as soon as I finished it. Not gonna spoil it or link to a trailer but watch it if you get a chance. It's very action -heavy, military-themed, dumb alpha bros everywhere, 90s/00s feel, Alan Ritchson brutally frame-mogging everyone, with some solid special effects. Surprisingly bloody too. I give it an 8/10

It's more of a effects/stunt demo than an actual film, IMHO. It was very competently filmed, but god damn the military aspect was rooooouuugghhh. But the actual robot was quite cool if somewhat nonsensical in design. It lacked the macho bravado of Predator or the weird wacko cheese elements of something like Enemy Mine or Flash Gordon to make it a cult classic. How they got Dennis Quaid, Jai Courtney (ok, maybe he is cheap), and Esai Morales to cameo in this is bizarre. These actors should have been the team in the field, not the goofball nobodies we got.

Enjoyed it a lot. Highly recommended. Was looking for filler till f1 fp3 started but got hooked watched thru to end.

I started it last night but was too tired to finish, only got about 25 minutes in or so, but he's basically just cut and pasted into this movie as his Jack Reacher character from what I saw. The man of few words, but fucks shit up kind of character.

It's more of a short story of man vs. himself than a sci-fi film against aliens, sort of how The Grey isn't really a film about wolves. Not as good as The Grey but enjoyable and as an older brother I found it relatable.

My buddy put this on last night. I missed the first 10 minutes but watched the rest. Its decent. The military trainng stuff bored me but once they got to fighting the alien mech thing it picked up. Cast was pretty good . Theres an action scene in an apc that is really awesome.

It's a good action flick but its not particularly fresh. This is one of those ones that would've been regarded as a classic if it came out in the 80s but 40 years later its not pariruclarly memorable I think. Worth a watch for special effects. They are very solid

Movie was ok. Good enough action but it's very much a "check your brain at the door" kind of movie, which tracks because this director also directed Expendables 3.

Watched it, pretty damn mid. If they had a real director and spent more than $3.50 on the secondary cast it might have been good. The entire time I was thinking how much better the flick would be with these characters:

Arnie stands out because he is the biggest bad ass in a group of total badasses.

The script fell apart but the combination of the practical effects and CGI worked surprisingly well.

About the script:

1. The machine had the ability to jump off cliffs from the beginning with the jetpack but decided not to.

2. The machine had a full on death ray from the start but did not use it.

3. The machine had the ability to scan all around it but decided not to.

4. Who designs a video-game-ass machine that clearly can correctly assess the surroundings without a separate fucking scanner any way? Wouldn't it make more sense to include the scanner with however the thing assessed the surroundings?

5. The military couldn't figure out the red glowing ventilation ports on the top of the thing as a weak point until the main character pointed them out.

6. The sci-fi grenades activate from dropping into fire?

I'm not sure the machine really cared about them much, as a demo charge didn't even faze it (or only woke it up?), so maybe it was more interested in hitting the nearby base.

Yeah, this was a pretty glaring weakness. Maybe these things were designed for a much colder environment if just walking around on Earth had them venting heat all the time. Or just that one had a cooling system failure after all the damage it sustained and his advice was of only limited value.

This bit I think may have been the machine suiciding itself, Predator style, rather than a cook off from such low heat. Though it certainly does look like it.

My opinion on it

War Machine - this was bad. I won't spoil it although the plot synopsis on Netflix kinda spoils it already, but it's been a while since I've seen a movie with a plot this unserious that takes itself so seriously. It tries to lay on the emotion and sappiness and power of brotherhood stuff way too heavy and it just isn't there. There's nothing about this movie that's emotional and I found myself LOLing several times throughout the movie. And the ending is just the cheesiest and cringiest ending I've seen in quite some time. The whole thing is lame. Only watch if you want something mindless to kill time for a couple hours.

I did not notice any signs of the machine caring or not caring about anything other than killing people.

Do you mean the "village" the machine demolished while landing on Earth or the "main base" of the military nearby?

The movie had many more or less subtle nods to Predator and that was one. It did not make much sense to me though.

If it was a suicide bombing did the overheating cause the suicide bombing to take place or did the machine decide to suicide bomb? There was no indication of the machine manually deciding to suicide bomb. The bombs falling out was more of a natural reaction of the machine's death. Like when a person or animal dies they have a bowel movement. The bowel movement just happened to go into a lake of fire!

I think the script writer could not understand that video game design functions differently than movie story design. Video games are designed as a challenge for the player to overcome and the difficulty has to rise as such over time.

In movies the later difficulties have to be set before hand so they make sense within the world of the story. The machine's abilities are the same in the beginning of the story as they are in the end so it does not make sense for the machine NOT to use all the functions it has in the beginning of the story rather than in the end of the story.

The mechanic character was also poorly set up. The knowledge of his mechanical capabilities just came out of nowhere when most needed.

I remember Predator doing the set up of characters way better.

It was a thoroughly entertaining Netflix scifiy movie that ticked all the boxes for a Friday night viewing with the family and a few beers, don't dissect it ffs just enjoy the cool effects, the always excellent Reacher and some nice gore and action, what more do you want
