Thanks again Blim!

I guess this is a CG trailer?
quote from the press release :
This is a longer length (1:34) trailer & it showcases (in more detail) one of the Game Environments of WarDevil (the Monastery) that has already been featured in previous RTE1080 demos. Again, all graphics are in-game assets (the actual level & the characters), displayed via the RTE1080’s advanced features (Motion Blur, Depth of Field, Bloom, In-Engine Particle effects etc).

The RTE1080 2005 trailer also features more detailed human and creature (organic) facial animations, to demonstrate the Engine’s abilities with non-hard surface graphic elements – and to illustrate the graphic fidelity & detail that is achievable with the RTE1080.

Well it's interesting to say the least, I can't say i'm that impressed but then again I know next to nothing about this game. It's a given that the visuals are great :)

Are you SURE it's an engine capable of running on the X360?

Hmm. . . .

exactly. This engine will only run on PS3 (and someday far away on high end Pc's, when they will be able to match the awesome power of the beast known as PS3. Probably not before 2015 though).

Hmmmmmmmmm ....

. . . I'm sorry I asked.

lol

I don't understand why this engine is not making a bigger buzz in the development community, because it looks very nice, and seems very capable? Was it ever actually demonstrated running in realtime? The way they worded that press release, it makes it sound a bit shady.

About the platform:
Please note that discussions are still underway regarding the final platform for WarDevil (PS3 or X360) and we will be making a formal announcement as soon as we can.

there is just something about this that makes me think it isn't realtime. more power to them, but the video doesn't do anything to convince me. just some fades from wireframe. show me your tools or something. i dont know...

there is another trailer where they show the wireframe/shaded/textured transition. I posted a link sometime ago.

What kind of game is this supposed to be? Nothing in the trailer hints at the gameplay. Are you playing as the dude in the first trailer (the one with shiny eyes)?

I just hope it's not another FPS :(

Yeah, I know what you are talking about, that other trailer with obvious post-production transitions between shader levels, it makes it even a bit more fishy.

They still keep using that "in-game assets" words tho... in stead of just saying "IT'S ALL REALTIME FELLA! LOOK HOW WE MOVE THE CAMERA AROUND!"

I'm really hoping that these trailers represent the engine...

It's true that the newer trailers are not as detailed as the original teaser, so there is some hope there, but there are some things going on in the trailer that are so impressive that I honestly can't believe it is realtime. The models all seam feasible (very much so), but the post processing is just too damn good.

If it turns out that it really IS running in realtime, then these guys have just created one of the most impressive looking next-gen engines yet.

Fantastic looking. I wonder why this doesn't have a publisher yet. Sony or MS should snap this ASAP. This is the kind of visual quality that showcases systems' capabilities.

They released an video of the engine in action. It's located here: http://xboxyde.com/news_2008_en.html

perhaps because it is faked? I'm just saying, if they don't have a publisher, then something is fishy. Also self promption by releasing media and screens of a game before a publisher has signed on is a red flag for vaporware.
Also if you don't have a publisher, don't have a devkit.

Any ideas what exactly it is they are showing us then?

Do you believe it is simply a rendered trailer? Do you know anything at all about these guys?

you act like this isn't done all the time. heh.

There was an older thread with the CG and realitme stuff side by side, there was a slight difference, but it was very close.

And I don't know why not having a publisher would turn this into vaporware. It seems just as often games with publishers end up that way, while a game like Heavenly Sword or Dark Sector ended up with a publisher probably because of the early stuff they were showing.

What about Project Offset? Those guys are doing exactly the same thing as these guys, is that bs too?

They are attempting to SELL an engine to a publisher they have yet to find. If what Oxy has said is true, they wouldn't even have access to the hardware. The situation here is different.

The Killzone trailer has received so much attention, but it was not used to sell the company line nor was it used to demonstrate their actual graphics engine. It was only intended to give us a preview of where they hope to go with their game. They didn't use that trailer as a presentation in order to gain a publisher as they already had one...

Honestly, I don't want to make a call either way as "I" known nothing of the situation. Their work is very impressive looking, however, and by questioning its validity to the fullest, I can quickly determine whether or not putting any faith into it makes sense. I wouldn't want to just see it and make an assumption (raising expectations along with it) only to be let down in the end. If you are critical early on and proven wrong in the end, the results will seem much more impressive...

They don't say that it is running in real time but "done with in-game assets". Seeing how a couple of -deleted- devs have sold their high poly stuff for NM as "in-game assets" I wouldn't be so sure about this being real time. Like not sure at all.

Something smells fishy. They are either asking for a friggin fortune for their game or they are trying to fool someone because with such coding skills they should have all major publishers lined and salivating.

Now imagine that their coding skills ARE up to snuff...but they have no clue how to go about designing an actual "game". Their videos are pure "tech demos" and demonstrate nothing resembling gameplay.

I doubt it, publishers and developers are always fishing for new stuff. They are still independent and haven't announced a middleware deal.

no they don't. Offset has shown off their tools in their videos, and they are very clear of their previous work.

my gut says it is pre-rendered. More power to them if it is realtime. The fact that I don't know anything about them also adds to not thinking it is real. No prior history, no previous games, not names attached to give them legitimacy. I'm just skeptical.

Ummmm, the fact that they are calling it the 'REAL TIME ENGINE' doesn't give you the impression that they want you to think that the video is REALTIME.
