Happy to see this and will have a great time with another playthrough. I was sad that the original game wasn't on the backwards compatibility list. Wonder if they will have MP or if it's just the campaign.

I wonder if MS did some kind of timed exclusive thing for Gamepass console exclusivity.

Game Pass wouldn't make Sega not put it on other consoles, Soul Hackers 2, Persona 3: Reload, the side story Yakuza game were also on GP day 1.

A game can still have a timed exclusivity deal with or without Game Pass. More than likely, that's what this is. Makes no sense otherwise.

While not a full remaster, it's described as "a thoughtful restoration" instead.

"We aimed to preserve the spirit of the original while modernizing the experience for today's players," says Vaidas Mikelskas, a producer from SneakyBox, the studio entrusted with enhancing Space Marine.
The Master Crafted Edition features a full graphics engine overhaul, "greatly improved" textures, 4K resolution, updated character models, and remastered audio. Your opponents in the game, the Orks, have also had a full rework to ensure that their "identity is fully aligned with the latest Warhammer 40,000 lore." There are new character models on show, and over 100 new voice lines have been recorded too.

The control scheme has also been modernized to make things a bit more accessible for new and younger players jumping in for the first time. The UI has had a spruce too.
Oh, and to top it all off, there will be multiplayer support, and that means you can jump back into competitive modes such as Space Marine's 8v8 battles.

What changed with the orcs in recent 40k lore?
If I had to guess it would be with the narrative that came in the books recently? They have added a fair bit to the orcs in the last 15 years that have evolved stuff like their character models.

I very highly doubt it is anything drastic

Still a trash faction… ;).

The only thing I can see via google searches is that Ork's now have reality warping powers (?).

So maybe there's new types of enemies that can warp shit in. I dunno.

I just bought and finished the game like 4 months ago lol.

The original is still great aside from sparse level textures and a couple stupid difficulty spikes.

What changed with the orcs in recent 40k lore?
ChatGPT says:

The Orks (or "orcs") in Warhammer 40,000 have always been a staple of comic brutality and anarchic violence, but recent lore—especially from the 9th edition onward—has brought some notable developments that shift both their narrative presence and tactical flavor. Here's a breakdown of the key changes and expansions:

🔧 1. Beast Snaggas and the Return to the Wild

One of the most visible changes in recent Ork lore is the introduction of the Beast Snagga sub-faction. This is more than just a new unit line—it's a cultural evolution within Ork society.
  • Who they are: Beast Snaggas are a more primal, feral type of Ork, favoring squigs (especially giant ones like squigosauruses) over vehicles and high-tech dakka. Think of them as nomadic, beast-riding Orks who disdain excessive tech.
  • Why it matters: This signals a rebalancing of Ork society between the high-tech Mekboyz and these more primitive warbands. It also suggests that Gork and Mork (Ork gods) might be pushing their worshippers back toward raw, unfiltered violence, rather than just engineering know-how.
💬 Implication: There's an Ork-wide philosophical schism brewing—techno-orks vs. primal-orks. It mirrors tensions elsewhere in the 40k universe, like Mars' divisions or the Imperium's internal dogmas.

🧠 2. Waaagh! as a Psy-Warp Phenomenon

Recent lore has further emphasized the Waaagh! as not just a cultural movement, but a psionic warp-powered force.
  • In practical terms: Orks don't just fight harder when a Waaagh! is called—they warp reality around them through collective belief. Enough Orks believing they can win essentially bends the warp and physics in their favor.
  • Example: Orks building a "red" vehicle makes it go faster—not because of science, but because enough Orks believe it should. Newer lore leans harder into this, giving it more narrative credibility and strategic flexibility.
💬 Implication: The Orks' collective gestalt belief might be one of the most potent warp forces in the galaxy—arguably more stable than Chaos.

🧪 3. "Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka" Ascendant

Ghazghkull isn't just back—he's effectively semi-divine now.
  • What changed: After surviving (sort of) a plasma shot that should've disintegrated him, he's been rebuilt by Mad Dok Grotsnik into something closer to a living god of war.
  • The Psychic Element: Ghazghkull's presence now can catalyze a massive Waaagh! across entire systems, warping Ork behavior and intensity like a massive psychic amplifier.
💬 Implication: He's no longer just a strategic threat—he's a potential apocalyptic force if left unchecked, capable of destabilizing sectors by belief alone.

🌌 4. Greater Role in the Galactic Meta

Orks, once a sort of wildcard side faction, are now being written into the broader galactic struggle in more meaningful ways:
  • Octarius War Escalation: The Orks are still engaged in brutal perpetual warfare with the Tyranids in the Octarius Sector. The Inquisition tried to keep it contained (because the war keeps both species occupied), but recent events show it's failing.
  • Broken Wheel Theory: Some Inquisitors believe Orks are the "natural predator" of the galaxy—necessary chaos to test and weed out the weak. New lore leans into this idea more philosophically.

📖 5. Codex (9th Edition) and Factional Flexibility

Rules-wise (though rules are not lore per se), recent Codex updates align with lore changes:
  • Custom Kulture options: Ork clans now reflect deeper cultural divergence (Speed Freeks, Snakebites, etc.).
  • Beast Snagga units: Emphasize melee-heavy, squig-based warfare—like a throwback to Rogue Trader-style Ork savagery, but dialed up to 11.

🧨 Summary: What's Actually Changed?

ElementBeforeNow
Ork CultureMostly tech vs. melee clansBeast Snagga rise as a primal counter-movement
Waaagh!A morale/psychic buffA literal warp-altering event
LeadershipGhazghkull = top warbossGhazghkull = proto-god-figure
Narrative RoleBackground chaos agentsCore players in galactic collapse theories
Faction IdentityJokey brutalityStill jokey, but metaphysically terrifying

It would be cool if they left the multiplayer in, but I'll grab it regardless. Be even better if it's a free update or owners get it cheaper.

ChatGPT says:
Making them less comedic and the characters involvement of Gork and Mork is pretty huge in the setting. The fight between Angron and Ghazghkull will be awesome… when Angron defeats (but I dont think he will kill him) him it will bring about some interesting narrative opportunities.

Still, it's always a joke to see these things. Just fodder for the emperors servants to sharpen their skills on before facing an actually worthy foe…

MP is in, confirmed.

space marine 2 was one of the best selling games on ps5 last year and now they release it on a platform where nobody buys games and steam only ?

what in the actual ork is going on here?

I'm all over this. Still need to play Space Marine 2 too.

Never touched any of these games since Warhammer is for nerds.

Best guess:
This is just the original PC version, with some new assets and all the visual settings at max.
Since that's DirectX, a port to Xbox consoles is effortless. A Playstation version would need to be ported to the PS API.
Might just be a case of a separate announcement, or it might come later.

Pretty sure it is a timed exlcusive, and they hardly say when those are such cases to not miss out on pontential initial sales on both who have both systems who deliberately would choose to wait to buy on the other system.

That's where your problem with understanding begins... Some of you have gotten the idea (or want to believe) that studios and publishers have no reason or incentive to release games on Xbox and that everything has to be on PS, which is then shocking to you. 🤷

1- WH 40K also sold excellently on XBOX

2- The incentive to release it on XBOX and not on PS could have several reasons. Making that decision does not automatically mean being crazy and mentally deficient.

3- It's not the first or last game to be released this and every year on PC/XBOX and not on PS, and not necessarily games that come out on GamePass.

Don't worry, the game will also come out on PS5 at some point, and as some people mentioned in the thread, it's probably a project funded via GamePass, a very simple PC port on XSeries or both.

That's a whole lot of "mentally deficient" writing just to say there was a timed exclusivity deal or announcement embargo.

It really is that simple.

hang on, this is Sega published so wait a couple days. All of Segas Xbox announcements have been radio silent on non Xbox or pc platforms for a couple days.
That 48-72 hour embargo? 🤭

They are reality warpers now.

The reason the machines they build work and no one understands how or why they work, is simply because Orks believe they can work so they work.

Why do they paint their vehicles certain colors....because they believe the color will make the thing fly faster........so it does.

Why did warcrys in the old games make them stronger.....because they believed it would.......so it did.

Its weird to try to make sense of Orks.......but the new editions make them that much more funny they are just legit dangerous now in canon.

No, retard. It's simple realities of the industry.
The reality of the industry is that this is the generation where the most games of all types, genres, and origins are coming to Xbox, and that cases where games are released on PC/Xbox are so frequent that even low-level characters like should not be surprised at this point and have no other reaction than to insult.

It's okay, I have understanding with people in that situation🙇
