You do you boss, but personally I'm really glad we're getting all these retro-inspired FPS games. This 40K Bolter will make another fine addition to my Steam Deck library.

I have this on steam. I love hexen and heretic but this is NOTHING like any of those.
Not only this has nothing to do with old shooters, it actually is really weirdly floaty.
These games all just ride on doom 2016 and eternal train and even that is misunderstood

Was wondering why you posted this but then I noticed you replied to rofif who I have ignored and looking at his reply I made a good call cuz he's a complete and utter...well, anyway, game looks good, hopefully the level design will be good.

It's more reminiscent of Quake and Unreal outside of the weapons to be fair. But if you have played the final version and past the first couple of episodes, you'll know that it isn't even remotely riding Doom 2016's coattails and is very obviously heavily influenced by 90's shooters.

ProDeus, Ion Fury, Dusk, Wrath: Aeon of Ruin, and Amid Evil have all been great.

I still don't get the 3d "throwback" look.

It looks just as ugly now as it did back in 1995.

I think this might be a NeoGAF first for three comments to get the coveted Shiitake award together!

Think what you will but I lived through the times these original games that boomershooters are based on were released.
I still have few win98 pcs….
Boomershooters are just not capturing it for me. These feel bad and look wrong. Not all of them but vast majority.

I only played first few levels of that.
Ion fury is great though

My dude, most of us here have lived through those days as we're all in our mid thirties and fourties even. No one cares that you still have ancient PC's sitting around, especially as you can play pretty much 99% of retro titles on modern systems as well. Further more, even if a 12yo would pick up a game like Dusk, Ion Fury, HROT, Nightmare Reaper, Viscerafest, Hard Reset, Project Warlock, INCISION, Wrath, Turbo Overkill, etc it would act like a certified time machine as all these games do a wonderful job of recreating that crisp and fluid feeling of the games we played when we were younger. As a cherry on top they often improve upon the formulae in many aspects as well, which is only natural as technology has evolved over time and developers (and gamers alike) have learned so much about what makes these types of games tick.

You saying you "own a few win98 pc's" doesn't provide any validity to your 'argument' (which has so far been very opaque I might add). You might not feel like they've recaptured the spirit of a certain title you loved but you'd have to show up with some better reasoning if you're going to convince anyone else of that. At the moment all you're doing is outright disregarding this amazing wave of retro shooters we have been getting over the past few years (and before DOOM 2016 even) which is incredibly reductive to say the least.

I like throwback games. Bring it on. I won't spend months or years on end playing it but a run through looks like it will be hella fun. I've always like the 40K universe just not been a fan of the sorts of games that have come out. This looks more my style.

re: 40K games. I'm playing Necromunda at the moment. It's ... yeah, not great. Maybe it'll get better. Only an hour in.

90% of all 40k games are plain bad. Just bad. About 7% is pretty okay and there are occasional nuggets of legit good games.

I've been disappointed with 40k videogames so many times I am impervious to their mediocrity. The glory of the Emperor shall shine down on us all as I am his sword and enact his will through my mouse clicks and purge the Warp filth from this side of the galaxy.

For the Emperor protects.

You know, until the game gets boring after an hour or two.

Fair enough, I'll buy them though. Prodeus, Dusk, Amid Evil and Project Warlock are all great games. I'll take more like them.

Looks like Supplice (GZDoom standalone game) and Prodeus had a baby.

GZDoom in general is slowly becoming a great engine for indie projects because so many games are in development that use it.

OMFG the first part of this trailer is effectively a replay of a real event in my life. I am so in for this game.

I agree , the half way retro look they keep using doesn't look or play right.Ion Fury looked and felt great because it was running on an old engine. The same thing happened with all the "2D Pixel" games that were coming out.

Artstyle is too inconsistent for my taste... bloom, lights and post process effects and high res explosions with sprites and intetionally janky animations.
