Warrior Within GC - 480p support?

Yeah, OK, so I just read the GS review and see that the XBOX version has sound problems. Well, my younger sibling is working tonight at EB and she is picking up my copy of the game. I specified the XBOX version, as that is usually the best bet. However, in this case, that doesn't seem to be so...

Now I am considering the GC version instead and I need to know if it offers 480p support within the next 5 minutes. :P

Anyone?

Well, I already found out for myself. It does support it, but you can't find it on any website. The game package itself does not even claim to support it, yet it works!

Sadly, the game is all kinds of grainy. I haven't seen a game this grainy since the Riva TNT days...

Very disappointing...

Ugh, I just can't get over it. I'd consider swapping for the XBOX version even with the sound problems. Dark areas are just nasty looking here. The game looks f*cking terrible on Gamecube.

The actual game is very good thus far, though. I very well could best the original. The island seems massive and open. The game is far more difficult than the original, though...

Sound problems in the Xbox versions? Yikes, I wonder what's up with that.

Screw Gamespot...

There are sound problems in the GC version too (same issues they mentioned in the XBOX version). Not only that, it looks awful on GC -AND- has slowdown in large rooms.

I should have went for the XBOX version anyways.

Hmm, I've helped the situation a bit, I suppose...

I tried the game in 480i mode and noticed that the colors were a -LOT- darker. The game actually looked a lot better in this mode...

So, I switched back to 480p and simply lowered the brightness on my TV to a level I normally would avoid. I know it isn't correct, but there is clearly a brightness problem with the game. The dithering is still obvious, but the game looks a whole lot better like this.

Also, the brightness levels are more on par with the screenshots and the other two demos. I should have known that the bright colors were not correct...

I wonder why it was so bright though? No other GC game has this issue, but PoP2 clearly was displaying at a much bright level than it should have...

Sounds like the coders at UbiSoft messed up with setting the gamma ramp when running in progressive? Or maybe that isn't under programmer control since the DAC is inside the cable if you use the digital AV port?

IGN say Xbox features the best sound too, Xbox won IGN head to head. Guess you were swindled

Yes I was. The GC version is the worst looking of the four. You can't really notice just how grainy the game is in that GC shot, though. It wasn't particularly noticible in the first area (though I could tell). Once you reach the island, though, it's a mess...

I'm trading for the XBOX version today. Thanks Gamespot! >:(

Am i wronf? Because the shadows look better too..

The XBOX and PC versions have projected shadows...

I am really pissed off about this whole situation for some reason.

^^
That was some wierd sh!t.

PC version for me... Just like the first one. I was put off by the PS2 demo tho. Is the final 30fps also?

Does it even matter?

Yes.

The GC version just looks awful for me. I can't stand the way it looks. As I said, the image quality is flat out awful and reminds me of a Riva TNT running in 16-bit. I can't stand it.

At the very least, I figured that, as a GC game, the image quality would be pretty good. However, that just isn't the case. This has the absolute worst image quality I've seen in a GC title. Even non-progressive titles like Tales of Symphonia have vastly superior image quality.

I thik it's safe to argue that you should be wary of GC ports these days. Support is slowing down big time, so it shouldn't be a shock that GC is the worst looking. Shoot, the GC version of the first PoP was arguable the worst looking depending on how you felt about the bloom effects.

The PC port is pretty shoddy in the grand scheme of things. No ambient or bloom lighting, while the Xbox version does?

WTF indeed.

didn't seem likely that a third party would put the most polish on a gamecube version. i guess i'll stick with the xbox version, then. fucking gamespot.

The Xbox Live features

Time Attack Mode
Arena Survival Mode
Downloadable Content
Scoreboards
Friends List
Live Aware

I hope they release a patch or something if the sound really is as bad as GS say. But it's odd IGN didn't say anything about it.

Jeez, the GC version looks like Silent Hill or something.

Actually, yes, that's a good comparison.

While higher in resolution, the actual shading looks nearly as bad as Silent Hill 1 on PSX. Considering the heavy usage of dark colors in PoP2, you can image that the actual image looks downright nasty.

Honestly, it is less tolerable in PoP2. SH has a limited color palette, but PoP2 attempts to display a much wider range of colors per scene. You end up with some really bad dithering on virtually everything in the scene.

From those pictures, the GC version looks worst of the four, actually... PC and XBox have that light reflection, PS2 has the heat distortion, GC has no extra effects that I can see. It's also probably the only one that runs in 16bit color (thus the dithering and grainyness). (Pop1 at least was running in 24bit on PS2, and obviously the same on Xbox and PC)

actually, my post was just an excuse to hide a link

I personally don't care about PoP2 so I guess what I said still stands :b
