Just watched The Warriors.

Great film, not high cinema by any means, but tense and exciting throughout. Could have stood a bit better lighting, but awesome otherwise. Best part's probably the radio announcer, or the major asskicking the Furies get.

Now I'm pumped for the GAME. :D

Told you man... one of my favorite movies ever! The game MUST have a female announcer DJ sound alike(since the lady from the movie has passed). Hey boopers....

Can you dig it? Caaan you dig it?

Damn I loved this film.

The Baldies were awesome.

Those days are over, but I almost would have liked to ride in the subways back then. The Warriors wasn't exactly the best gang film I've ever seen, but it was a great fictional romp in a really dangerous place.

And Lynne Thigpen > all other radio announcers ever. That's just the way it is.

Talking of The Warriors, doesn't R*'s game of this come out next week?

Good news boppers, the red alert has been called off. It seems that the early reports were wrong - all wrong. Now for that group of people out there that had such a hard time getting home, I guess all I can do is play you a song.

Thanks I couldn't find that quote.

The announcer's the same lady from Where In the World Is Carmen Sandiago and Lean On Me. I can't stand her. But yeah, I can't wait for this game, they most likely use the movie as the dub. I just hope the soundtrack rocks. It's coming out for the xbox, too, right?

The Warriors is old school goodness for sure. I remember my older brother having the soundtrack, on 8 track none the less, and they had all of the DJ Woman's comments mixed in. I loved it when Shaq started doing the "Can You Dig It!" line a few years back. Figured 95% of the people listening to him had no idea where that was coming from.

Aren't they going to re-make this?

Only in game form. The only thing I'd like them to fix is the fighting. Make it less 70's kung fu and more street fighting. The gangs here don't fight like that.

Obviously Warriors movie or game for that matter isn't suppose to be a truth to life respresentation of how the gangs fight/fought... come on now.

Warriors is pretty fun, if for no other reason than you get to beat up mimes. Mimes!

And you have to find a giant pimp hat. Now that's gameplay!

Great movie. Did anyone pick up the director's cut dvd? How is it?

I did. The extras are great. There is some really good background information on the movie and actors told through some small featurettes. And some of the original promotional material.

The change to the movie was very strange at first, as what they did was really play up the comic book quality of the narration by actually using fade to color panel transitions between narrative and adding a few descriptions to place and time. Basically, they just changed the style of how it is told to highlight the director's desire to show it as an epic heroic tale much in the way of American comics. I think it works ok with the subject material but it will be jarring to you if you've seen the original many times.

Bring on the game!

There is a lot of 70's kung fu type fighting in the film, though.

Yes, they are. Now that Domino is wrapped up, Tony Scott's next flick is a remake of The Warriors, due out sometime next year.

I know, and it was just the kung-fu spirit of the era (I was talking about the movie). But yeah, if they keep the scene where they'e actually paying the train fare, then I guess they should keep the kung fu.

This gives a pretty good insight to what the remake will be like...

Tony Scott said:
"The opening of 'The Warriors' now begins on the Long Beach Bridge, and it's going to look like the L.A. marathon," Scott said of the script, which relocates the story of the titular gang attempting to get home to its turf after being mistakenly accused of murdering a rival gang leader. "You'll still get the same story, but we're reconstructing the family, reconstructing the characters, and I'm doing it in L.A. The original was in New York and everything went upwards; L.A. goes [length-wise]. And instead of 30 gang members, there's going to be 3,000 or 5,000."

Scott revealed that he intends to do away with such warring factions as the Baseball Furies (a bat-wielding group of thugs dressed in makeup and MLB-worthy uniforms), the Punks (chain-wielders in hillbilly overalls) and the Hi Hats (bad-ass mimes wearing top hats). The decision, which will no doubt stir up controversy among die-hard fans currently snatching up newly released "Warriors" action figures at mall stores nationwide, is largely due to the director's recent meetings with actual L.A. gang members, whom he employed onscreen in "Domino" and intends to use again for "Warriors."

"I sat with all the gang members and they said, 'If you can get this movie on, we'll do a treaty between all the warriors, all the different gangs,' " Scott said proudly. "It's very different from what the original is like. I love the original, but this is a very different tone and a very different feel. The encounters will be more like 'Kingdom of Heaven.' It will be the Warriors stacking up against 3,000 gang members.

...

The story is so generic, it's like these guys are at point B and they need to get back to point A," Scott said of the similarities between the two films, which will virtually end after the title, concept and name of at least one major character. "It's contemporary; it's going to look like the L.A. riots, with fires burning after Cyrus gets shot at the beginning.

"Everything else that we're doing, what I'm bringing to it, it's a different movie," he added, saying that authentic tattoo-sporting gangbangers will replace fictional organizations like the Savage Huns and the pimpish Boppers. "It will be the Bloods, the Crips, the Vietnamese, the 18th Street [Gang], all the boys. It will be all the major gangs in Los Angeles, and we're going to try to get them to stand on the Long Beach Bridge."

The comments by the "Man on Fire" director also put to rest Internet rumors that the remake would be largely martial-arts oriented, implying instead that the action will be of the bare-knuckles and drive-by-shootings variety.

...

Adding that he's got "enough outrageousness in the real people," Scott admitted that although he enjoys the flamboyant gangs in Walter Hill's original film, the Baseball Furies will be permanently stranded in the on-deck circle. So, when ill-tempered gang member Luther recites his famously taunting quote, "Warriors ... come out to play," he'll likely be confronted by a very different group.

That is if Luther — or even that line of dialogue — survive the remaking process.

Thanks! I thought I had read about a re-make in the mix.

It's been in the planning stages seemingly for awhile now.... I knew about the remake way before I knew about the game... not only that but IIRC when I first heard about the game it was suppose to be based on the remake movie....

That's actually what I had been thinking. Read about the movie re-make several years ago, and I thought the game would be timed with the release of the new film. Obviously not. Still, it should be interesting to see what Tony Scott does with the film.

Wow, that discussion about the script makes it seem like a generic piece of crap instead of a surreal escape story. Thanks Hollywood!

The Baldies? I think you're confusing "The Warriors" with "The Wanderers"

God damn you are right! - Fancy that, mind you it was over 15 years ago when I watched it.

Now I'm going to have to go rent The Warriors.

It's changes too much to be considered a remake.

The new version is drastically different, as it is about a gang called The Warriors who must flee to their own turf after being framed for the murder of a honcho gang member named Cyrus, all while battling hordes of other, varied gangs.

... Get real. It's a fucking remake. The setting and tone has changed, but it's The Warriors. But whatever helps you sleep at night.

I never said it was going to be good. I don't have much hope, nor do I think the world was really begging for a remake.

The Warriors was a retelling of Anabasis only with a modern day phantasmagoric feel to it. It's like basically saying they're remaking the 1997 version of Romeo+Juliet but with swords instead of guns. Don't come to me with this glib "it's a remake" crap. It sounds to be more related to the Sol Yurick story than the original Warriors film was. Remake is the wrong word.

"It wasn't us... it was tha Warrias!" Look at that, he also played T-Bird in The Crow.
