Was Light Crusader any good?

I think I remember seeing a preview of this game in a magazine shortly after I beat Beyond Oasis. I really wanted to play it because it seemed the game was a lot like Beyond Oasis(which I really liked). Anyway, I played about 10 minutes of the game today, and while I didn't fight any baddies, the game seemed like it had a feel Diablo mixed with Ultima's style which is good IMO, so I'm wondering if I should invest more time into it or play something else. :D

I'm curious too. I picked it up about a year ago when I was in my 'try to collect all things Treasure' phase, and never actually got around to plugging it in!

Landstalker - great
Beyond Oasia - good
Crusade of Centy - good
Light Crusader - not fit to wipe my ass with the manual

:(

Light Crusader is decent, not stellar. But people go into it like OMG TREASURE GUNSTAR HEROES and whatnot, so it's no surprise that they're let down.

Ahhh. Landstalker is one of my favorite games on the Genesis. Ever.

I guess Light Crusader is nowhere near as good, but the comments here.

I'm gonna hook up my Genny.

Right now.

It's been YEEEEEARS and year since I've played Landstalker, Monster World, etc.

Good: magic system, music, huge bosses, some cool background graphics, charm
Bad: tedious object-pushing puzzles, awful collision detection that breaks tedious object-pushing puzzles, character art

Don't play it expecting a good game. You might be surprised, or you may be vindicated.

Beyond Oasis has great graphics and interesting monster design no doubt. But seriously, as a game there's no fucking way you can say it's BETTER than Landstalker. Landstalker is the king of content as far as adventure games go. The towns, dungeons, cities, cultures, optional sidequests, puzzles, equipment and items (hidden or otherwise), etc. It's really a solid game. The only thing is the isometric view and controls might piss some people off but objectively I haven't played an adventure game better than Landstalker, not even Zelda. :D

Jiji got it pretty right. Light Crusader is unfairly maligned and is actually not awful. The music is actually quite good.

I wouldn't be saying that if I had paid the original asking price of $69 or whatnot, though. Five or ten bucks is closer to right.

My used record store actually has this for $2.50!

I'm gonna swoop it up tomorrow and play it to smite you haters! David rocks! That's his name right?

Not only did I pay MORE than the ORIGINAL asking price for it, but being in Asia, especially back then in the old days, US imports were fucking overpriced. Goddamnit I hate Light Crusader! I got it like a week apart from Beyond Oasis too, feel my pain. :(

Jesus, I never really took advantage of the incredible 3rd party support the Genesis had. I'm having so much more fun with it now than I ever did before, what with Gunstar Heroes and Landstalker recently falling into my possession, with Shadowrun, Castlevania: Bloodlines and Raiden Trad soon to follow.

Shinokou: Cool, but you might to skip Raiden Trad. It's not too hot. Check out Raiden Project or Raiden DX (JPN only) on PlayStation instead. Just about arcade-perfect.

Btw, only the JPN version of Project has the TATE mode (screen rotated for proper aspect ratio).

Anyone here remember Dark Savior for the Saturn? It didn't get great reviews, but I loved that game.

The tightly edited metal ballad intermission in the middle of the game is one of the few good things about that game and it was ripped out of the US release. Dark Savior was SUCH a disappointment given its pedigree.

Indeed, but speaking of pedigree, Climax is doing Tenchi no Mon for the PSP. I know that most of the Landstalker staffers moved on to Matrix and Climax Graphics (which well.... you know ;_;) but do you have any idea who are the staffers working on Tenchi no Mon? Seeing how you have more contact with Japanese developers is anyone of interest working on the game?
