Was Namco X Capcom announced for the US at E3?

Not to my knowledge, no. Someone asked about one of the companies about it, I believe it was Namco, and they said they had no plans to bring it over.

Two movies relevant to your interests:

mms://wm2.streaming.ne.jp/namco/nxcpro3.wmv

Nothing but 4 minutes of battles scenes. DIG DUG

The full anime opening. And if you were looking for it, the music is the full vocal song from the first trailer, and there's no sound effects or anything.

I just ordered my PS2 mod stuff.

So, does anyone have any impressions on the game now that its out? Also, does it have any English in it? I'm thinking about importing but my Japanese is very limited (as in I know none... :lol ) so it would be good to know if the game would prove to be challenging because of the language barrier. Thanks. :)

Check out Gamefaqs, there's a few impression threads. By all accounts the game is very easy and import friendly. No english, but everything is very simple to figure out.

I'm not a fan of strategy games at all, but even I'm about to break down and order this game. :D

There's not much strategy involved at all (which is the main thing Famitsu knocked it on). Geography and which direction you're facing don't matter, and all you're doing is hitting O or O + a direction to do different attacks. On the top right you have a certain number of branches, or basically how many times you can attack. If you're good you can just juggle them the entire time without giving them the chance to counter, and if you do the different commands it shows on the bottom, you get HP back. It's actually pretty straightforward. And by all accounts it's pretty import friendly, in that it's very simple and easy to learn how to play.

Cool. Just got done checking out Gamefaqs and I might just go ahead and import. Probably a better import desicion then Tear Ring Saga: The Berwick Saga since I'm thinking that game will not be as import friendly.

I guess I needed something, sooner or later, to force me through all my pimsleur's japanese lessons... anime is fansubbed so I always got lazy.

Maybe I'll even have too explore this kaji power 555 thing I have too...

motivation motivation motivation!

And so, what's the best mod/place to buy? Lik-sang I assume? *edit* probably not.... II'm not seeing any PS2 mod chips on their site... ???

Everyone's always referred me to mod-chip.com. Make sure you put the dash in there, modchip.com by itself is a completely different site that has a pretty bad rep. They've got Swap Magic 3.3 w/the slide card on sale right now, I got it for 24.60 shipped. If you want an actual chip they have them as well, but I'm not familiar with those.

Could one of the folks who has it go in to more detail about how it's "easy to figure out" for us junior importers?

I don't want to copy entire posts, but if you head over to the gamefaqs board for the game (yes I know), there's a basics/guide FAQ thread and a First Impressions thread done by the same person that sums things up very very nicely.

We're not going to get it because Namco sucks and they hate us and they eat poop.
Katamari Damacy, We Love Katamari, Klonoa 2 GBA and Mr Driller 2 GBA disagree.

Of course, Namco X Capcom and Mr. Driller Drillland agree wholeheartedly :(

It's kinda wierd. My impression after the first mission when I didn't bother doing the tutorials was that it was a confusing game that seemed easy and lacked depth.

Then I did the tutorial battle stuff and figured out what the hell is going on in the game and how meters and stats are affected. Did the 2nd mission and now I think the game is very original, has interesting strategic depth, and is a hell of a lot of fun.

End of story is that my first impressions are that NxC is an awesome mix of a rpg and a fighting game. There's waaaay too much dialogue so far (it's like I WANT TO FIGHT STFU PLZ) but other than that it's really neat. If Namco doesn't bring this to the US they are morons especially since there isn't even that much voice acting to dub.

Is there any reason to go for swapmagic 3.6 over 3.3? How well do those slide-card dealies work anyway?

I looked into it a lot (I just ordered a slidecard a few days ago for this game). 3.6 just adds some USB support thingie, but on their page, they even mention it's got more bugs than 3.3. As far as game compatability and such they're the exact same thing. So unless you really want the USB support, I'd just go with 3.3. It's also cheaper since it's the older version now, I got my 3.3 w/the slide card for 24.60 shipped over at mod-chip.com (make sure you put the dash in, modchip.com is another site with a BAD rep).

And from everyone I've talked to who has it, the slidecard works fine. If you were going to be playing a LOT of imports/backups, you might want to look into a modchip or JP system since it probably wears out the laser track a little faster (so I've heard), but for ordinary use you'll be fine. This is probably about the only game I'll really be using this for, since I hope to pick up an actual Japanese PS2 in about 6 months or so.

Nah, I'll play this, and maybe a couple shmups, but i tend to binge on those anyway, so it's not a big deal.

Slightly offtopic, but I'll have to look into that swap card, I really want to get ESPGaluda and Mushihime-sama, but can't be arsed to send my system out to be modded :P Does NCS do mods? They did a really nice job with my Saturn toggle switch (plus I got my system back real fast - they're right in Queens), so maybe I'll check that out. Thanks for the links, I've been wondering this type of stuff for a while.
