Was thinking about buying the custom black plates so my PS5 wont look like an inverted ice cream sandwich but......

Wouldn't it make more sense just to take them off, spray paint it black and put it back on?

I'd take them to a place that paints cars if money wasn't an issue. Did that with a few replacement parts on my Mini Cooper.

Spraying paint on a pair of plastic pieces is really easy. Just do it lightly, evenly and from the suggested distance. It will be fine.

You can't ruin it. And you can always put the console in a closet and forget about its hideous looks anyways.

Superwrap sprayable vinyl. I painted my bike with matte black a few summers ago and have enough left for the plates of the ps5 so that's what I plan on doing.

I'm doing the same.
You need fine sandpaper, primer for plastic and paint for plastic (you can get both in spray format) (varnish is optional, I'm going for a low/medium gloss varnish)
You can do it without sanding it down, but it might peel later, it will depend on what type of plastic it is.
You can get the primer and paint for 5$ each (results might not be as good as with better brands), and you need time and patience...
Here is a guide:

My brain doesn't understand what's happening here but it looks like magic.
It is quite magical. Its a water transfer printing process whereby a decal is placed in warm water then you dip what you want to coat into the water. It is able to coat complex shapes better than most methods of applying decal and it is faster too and last longer. Looks amazing as well.

Bo_Hazem Bo_Hazem you don't like carbon fiber?

I don't know how old it is but I've been aware of it for a long time. I watch Adam Savage from mythbusters Tested Youtube channel and he uses this method sometimes to coat a prop. As soon as i saw the PS5 face plate could be easily removed, it just popped into my mind as something i want to try.

Honestly can Sony shut it down? Its same as 3rd party accessories business in production for current and last gen..nothing new.

store got wiped off the earth. They had some really slick lookin plates.

Didn't the breakdown dude said in a interview that the side plates were designed by a young engineer and that the plastics in it allowed better breathing or airflow. If so, third party/bootleg plates are gonna be the same?

This is crazy! Never seen that before! Thanks. :messenger_ok:

This is why you see slim versions mid gen, consoles, tech, is always changing, evolving and that a decade from now the PS5 will look completely different to this bad ass version.

Yep, hoping for black plates myself in my country. My TV is black, my switch is black, the Xbox Series X is black, and then I have the PS5 being all smug about its self for being different.
