Watch Dogs 2 PC performance thread

I hope i can do 1440p 60fps without turning many settings down. I'll be using DSR as my monitor is 1080p. So i should use the temporal aa and/or smaa/fxaa? I dont care about the gameworks settings.

My specs = 6700k/16gb/1070.

What's the proper way of adding a uPlay version of the game to Steam so I can use it with BPM?
Is picking the exe enough or do I need to run uPlay with some argument magic? (Still downloading so I can't really test)

The top answer here seems to be exactly what you're after.

Yeah, it looks pretty great with the TAA method they're using.

I can't say I'm getting the same performance on my 1070 as you. I have to use ultra shadows + 1440p to get 60.

My monitor is 1440p and that's the resolution I settled at with TF+SMAA+PCSS+all other max settings including Nvidia toys.

I'm usually well over 60fps which is how I like it. Trouble spots with these settings are some areas with tons of trees with the corresponding tons of fancy shadows. I see drops to about 40fps in worst case scenarios until I leave the area and it's smooth again. At 1800p or so I'm mostly just over 60fps with frequent drops into the 50's, which isn't a massive issue with G-sync. Still, I highly prefer to stay over 60 so I did settle on 1440p currently.

Of course this was all pre-release and I wasn't using the new game ready driver. I'll be interested to see if performance changes any.

AO:HBAO+
Temporal Filtering: On
Post process: SMAA

Ahh, that looks promising, many thanks. I assume 2688 is the game ID based on the download folder.
Interestingly enough I stumbled across a Tobii EyeX library and an application called "Easy Anti Cheat" while I was looking for the ID. Haven't heard of either for the game before.

Just changed vpn and now shows playable. Gonna jump in and give a go. Anyone try downloading the high res texture pack? Worth downloading? Wondering why it don't show "zodiac killer" dlc on owned dlc column tho.
Sli is supposed to be supported from launch rite?

Granted there is some strange vegetation :shimmering:, but overall it's not as bad as some people claim. At least in motion. Screens look worse for some reason.

Game could really use some GTAV-esque distant DOF to hide the LOD.

I need to remove the mobile authenticator to be able to use a vpn to trick steam don't I?

You can leave it linked. You just need to sign out and change your password. There's a step-by-step guide in post #2.

I really thought there was sli from launch. Thought it was in there blog info about the game. It's only showing me for the one 980ti in the settings so not sure if SLI is coming or what the deal is. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks in advance

Awesome, just froze (?) the game while trying to look at a photo I took.

The game seems to run quite well with everything turned up, even the fancy shadows.

The card is over 2 years old. What do you expect? Also i read somewhere the game uses a lot of VRAM. 4GB isn't much anymore. Should run fine if settings are lowered. It's still above recommended specs.
As long as the settings correspond to the original PS4 equivalent settings performance at 1080p should be about doubled.

Not even a big difference between high and ultra from what I've seen. I think just about every PC game I played I didn't really see much of a difference between high and ultra. The only difference out of the gate was that of performance. Putting everything as high as it will go at the cost of performance just isn't worth it. You usually get 20-40 more FPS by lowering things to high-very high from ultra settings.

Whoa, unless there's some non-obvious problems with it, it seems turning it on is going to be a no-brainer for practically everyone.

Slight Oversampling + Temproal vs native (msaa2x)

1440p, 5% sharpen, +10% pixel density (temporal) ~72fps

1440p, MSAA 2x, SMAA (native) ~45fps

Rest:

Terrain:High
Vegetation:High
Texture:Ultra
AF:Ultra
Shadows:V.High
Water:High
Reflec.:High
SSR:V.High
Fog:On

Bloom:On
AO:HBAO+

I ended up keeping temporal filtering in R6 Siege, because it helped keep a solid 60 even though i did notice a slightly softer looking image. It still looked good. I'll probably be fine with keeping it on in WD2 if it helps performance a lot.

I think the game looks pretty in the screens posted so far but something about it makes GTA V seem even more impressive now. Excited to see what Rockstar does with RDR 2.

jaggy mess. can you post a screen with txaa 2x? does it work properly? or is it just a blurrier jaggy mess like in previous ubi titles

The Steam version is now available in several additional Asian territories, as well as Australia and New Zealand (better late than never). Additionally, all of the product activation apps are now public and unlocked worldwide (in no circumstance will Uplay ask for a key).

The texture pack app is still private, though. So close yet so far! I wish I had a Valve employee on my friends list I could bug about little oversights such as this.

We are using a new TXAA in Watch Dogs 2, and so the temporal component won't show in screenshots. For a proper look you'd have to grab some uncompressed/lightly compressed video.

We'll have more details on that, Temporal Filtering, and other stuff in the guide, coming soon to a certain website.
