FX Game Exchange in Plano, TX is hosting an event right now called the 1UpForAlex Gameathon where participants will be playing and streaming games for the next twelve hours to benefit the family of teenage Alex McGuinness, who was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma last year.
The good news is that Alex is in remission, but we're raising money to alleviate some of the medical expenses placed on his family.
My friend Spencer will be streaming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the next twelve hours in attempt to beat the game and raise as much money as possible.
His twitch.tv stream: http://www.twitch.tv/seabeastmoose
If you'd like to donate you can do so at 1upforAlex.com.
If you get a chance to make it to the store if you're in the area, we're playing Zelda, Pokemon, and some older NES and SNES titles. We've even got two id Software employees participating.
Hey, we've even been covered by Joystiq! http://www.joystiq.com/2014/02/07/texas-game-shop-to-aid-cancer-patient-with-novel-charity-maratho/
Sorry for the plug, but I figure GAF is the best place to go with something for a good cause. Even if you can't donate, check out the stream for a little. Thanks guys!
EDIT: We got a mention from Brian Crecente as well! https://twitter.com/crecenteb/status/432207054863101952
Games completed so far:
Out of This World (SNES)
Contra 3 (Super Famicom)
