Just done the tutorial mission and it was... awful. Please tell me that the mission design gets better than this?

The music is really solid though.

Same. My attention fades fast in most open world games and I end up brushing a lot of the extra stuff off, but this is the first time in awhile that I actually feel directly incentivized to go out and explore and learn more about the world, to pick up more side missions. There's a lot to this game. I like doing the Uber app stuff (orange missions only) because some of the encounters you get can turn out to be pretty damn interesting. Or the ScoutX locations; you get to see a lot of the small details they inserted in the game through that app.

And sometimes it's just fun running around Pier 39 on a sunny day, taking selfies with sea lions or crab people while that Tower of Power song blasts on the radio (music is also used very effectively in general).

Like, it pays to just get out of the car sometimes and take a walk around the neighborhood, look up the bios of people and listen to their phone calls or read their text convos. There are so many interesting details in this game. I came across a woman beating the shit out of her soon to be ex boyfriend's car with a baseball bat, screaming bloody murder, and then shook herself off, ran across the street to steal someone else's car and booked it out of the neighborhood.

In another instance, a woman was in a park playing her guitar, some dude walked up and told her that she sucked, and I swear it was like a record scratched with how sudden she stopped playing. She punched him in the face (and I helped her).

Then as I was exploring the outskirts of San Francisco, I ran into a small group of people gathered together around a campfire. Each of their bios pieced together a story about who they were and why they were gathered: a retired veteran who makes 18k a year, a former student who owed more than 10k in loans, a disabled individial who's been priced out of their apartment.

There's just so much attention they've given to the world in this game.

And on an unrelated side note: I appreciate how they've approached certain aspects of race.
I did not expect to hear "Friday: the black movie white people like," in this type of media.

Not even accurate.
The one white people like is Next Friday, lol.

But yeah, this game's world is fucking great.

Mp isn't getting fixed this weekend it seems :( Tues / Weds at the earliest I believe. Game is awesome but they really messed up here and I imagine a lot of outlets waiting on publishing final reviews won't give them any longer come Monday.

...I was literally hoping I wasn't going to read this.
I know of 2 that haven't put out their reviews but the patch means nothing to them as the game is being sold now so its being reviewed for what is available now. They got held up with the big titles in a row.

Edit:

You need to use the
damm crane on the other side of the street

i am becoming slightly obsessed with this game. fuck it is good. honestly starting to think i like it more than gta5. likeable characters. more interesting gameplay mechanics. its not as polished but who gives a shit. i'm flying drones, setting up traps, hacking phones, exploding shit from my car. these just way more options on how to beat a mission than in gta5. like one mission i had to steal a car that was in a locked area. i managed to lure the guys out by setting up a remote explosion. while they opened the gate to go out and check, i snuck in and got in the car and hid. they came back in. i then sent out my drone and got them to chase it outside, once again opening the gate for me. and then i made my break for it. and while they were chasing me i was hacking steam pipes to explode and i loved it and i love this game and it is just great just great.

The Zodiac Killer ending is kind of underwhelming. But hey most of bonus DLC missions are crap so it's not that surprising.

At first I was disappointed that the sneak gameplay wasn't as good as in Watch_Dogs, I love the ghost playstyle. But after unlocking both the Jumper and the Quadcopter, I have way more fun using them for solving everything.

London would be a good pick. It's a heavyly monitored city.

I'm pretty sure it's already in early development phase.

How I felt. Hate how there were 4 floors and the minimap gave me no indication of what floor enemies were on. The level design took a step back compared to the first for sure. That intro music though 😳 Could listen to it forever

For what it's worth, I thought the tutorial mission was maybe the worst part of the game. Everything after that is so much better.

There has to be an Easter egg with gnomes , I swear I see them all around the city in places you least expect . Can't remember but I'm pretty sure there's one in your main base as well.

The tutorial mission is terrible and you have to do it without gadgets and upgrades. Easily the worst part so far. I wouldn't call the later mission design great but it's serviceable and you can approach situations from multiple angles. It's fun enough.

The writing and the characters are where it really shines which is something I never thought I'd say after watching the first trailers. The tone seemed really off but you really do need the context of who these characters are and how silly this version of San Francisco is. Overall it's definitely the surprise of the year for me as I was expecting absolutely nothing and as of now it has definitely earned a spot in my top 10 list for this year. "Your face is too dark for my sensors to read."

Finished up today, got all the SP achievements except for a picture of someone vomiting. You'd think you'd run into that somewhere but I'll have to look it up.

Also note that Ubi Club has additional challenges for filling out the ability map and a bunch of other things that aren't in the achievements list, and they give points for some of those.

I have seen people vomit in the alley next to Dedsec HQ.

There was tearing pre patch, particularly on cutscenes. Can't see any after 1.04 though.

Can you see any during gameplay?

Got all solo trophies for this on PS4 now. All I have left to do is the online ones (and that 5 DeadSec quests cause they apparently only show up when in a co-op lobby...).

Hope they hurry up with the online patch because I've been triggering bounty/hacker etc. matchmaking for close to 2h without a single session being started (nor does the co-op mission matchmaking work).
I hate MP trophies but the WD2 ones surely sound manageable.

I just want the plat trophy already so I can retire the game. It's average IMHO, nowhere close to GTA V in terms of world design and gameplay (vehicular gameplay is cringeworthy and the parkour mechanics feel really rough). The hacking part is interesting... but I'd wager 70% of all missions are copy/paste intruder quests or get to point X to trigger mission complete. The few unique ones are pretty fun though.

Did they turn all the privacy invasions into side missions? I liked discovering the random ones in the first game.

I read this looks pretty shitty next to the (years old) GTA V? is that true?

Wasn't a fan of the first WD but am hearing semi-good things about this one so am interested. Doubt I'll buy at full price though. I can wait.

I fucking hate reading this shit so much.
GTA V cost 270 Million to make. THE MOST EXPENSIVE GAME EVER MADE. No game will achieve that level of detail.
Go look at gameplay videos or read this thread. There is more than enough impressions to help you decide your (future) purchase of this game...

My opinion: This game is amazing. Buy it now.

I have so much more fun with this than I had with GTAV, it's not even remotely comparable.

20+ hours in, still didn't buy any weapon except the first pistol.

No. Watchdogs is a good looking game.

Got this yesterday, enjoying it so far. I've found it quite hard actually, filthy casual that I am, lots of buttons to keep track of. It's one of those that the more you play the better it gets. I was a big fan of watchdogs 1 and this seems to have more to it so that's good.

Car handling could have a bit more weight but it's not as bad as I thought it might be. Looks amazing at times and runs really well on Pro too.

I was doing the cyberdrive mission early on and found something strange though;
under the stage/set in the movie warehouse (I went under there with the jumper) there was a wrapped up corpse lying next to a chainsaw and two garden gnomes.
Not sure what that was about ha.

Same (regarding the pistol part). I still prefer GTA V, but this is finally a contender. It took 3 years for another open world game to come close to GTA V.

I'm glad a game like this is finally here.

I haven't noticed any tearing but is it me or is there more frame pacing issues?

Ps: loving the game and it looks super clean on the pro (1080p)

It looks fine.

Also, while I have other problems with the game, I think it might feature the best designed open world environment ever (even if it does feel a little underpopulated).

Ugh, I'm struggling with the last mission.

I hacked the computer at Blume and now I have to escape. I've tried to take out the guards but I ended up being gunned down every time and none of my weapons are strong enough to take them on. Should I just make a run for it?

I took my upgraded stun gun (1 shot for armored enemies upgrade) and shot them all + spammed the L1/LB quick stun-hack.

What is the point in using the RC jumper over directly controlling Marcus? I'm trying to play the way the game is encouraging me to, and I want to use the gadgets effectively, but it just feels like the RC jumper is essentially Marcus with no melee takedown.

Marcus can't go through air vents, for one. The jumper is also a lot easier to sneak past people. I would use the jumper to find secret routes and use the phone distraction a lot.

Also when you upgrade the drone to carry explosives, a few missions become very easy.

I can't find anyone puking. I thought I would've by now.

Anyways, got a question. How far am I if I just met and teamed up with
Raymond Kenny
? I'm about to start his first mission.

I only have the game 'till Wednesday, and have been putting a good amount of time into it.

You've got plenty to go
You're maybe like 1/3rd

I wondered that after checking the list of trophies. Thanks.

I thought I was maybe farther, but I guess it's a pretty long game. I'll try to play more before I return it, then wait for the library to get it in so I can borrow it for free/finish it.

I've gotten quite into it. The hacking isn't great, but the story's been good and I like the city.

honestly I think this is one of the best sandbox maps ever. It might just be because it looks so pretty, but I also love looking at things I remember from being in SF. I literally did a 'tour' to my friend and we compared where we had been on our individual previous trips. My non-gamer friend literally jaw dropped when I walked to a little building she remembered from all those years ago. I just wish there was more collectibles, or at least extra stuff to do that is tied to progression to get you to explore it. Just like in Mafia 3, you start very, very powerful and there is little reason to do any of the side missions. I long for a sandbox game - especially one that opens up right away - to make you start as a little bitch, and you have to progress through side missions or sensible collectibles to make you a beast.
