Watch_Dogs |OT| PS4 would probably melt trying to do this

The hype for this new game "forum" must be unreal

Speaking of multiplayer, now that its out in the wild how does the progression system work?

Does disabling invasions (even just once) permanently wipe out all of your accrued notoriety? Was that early review full of shit?
No takers on this?

We had two threads on this one issue and the prevailing wisdom was to wait for release. Well the game's out there now, so does anybody know if those initial impressions were correct? Does any accrued notoriety get wiped as soon as you opt out of the online invasion stuff?

Damn it GAF. Because of all your impressions, I just ordered my PS4 which was planned for September. Can't wait to get my hands on it and Watch_Dogs this week!

Couldn't really say, the PSU, accessories, case and heatskins/fans were all things I already had.

I just bought a new mobo and the two parts I mentioned. Guess you could see if you could do the same? don't really need 'Gaming' peripherals like over priced mice and keyboards as I just use a pad.

I would prefer to game on a PC, if I had the money, and physical space for it.

If all you need to upgrade are those two pieces, yep, cheaper than PS4. Don't know the performance of that combo with this game, but if it's good, that's great.

If you have to start a PC from scratch though, you're not getting PS4 performance complete build for $399.99.

Your two piece combo right now is $370.

I would have to build from scratch, so, I'm happy with Watch Dogs on PS4. Looks good, seems people who have it think it plays well enough too. Eventually I'll build a new rig.

Just like anything released people find ways to get their hands on legit copies early. just because they are playing it early doesn't mean it's pirated.

While I'm not going to float any accusations, it was clear early on that some people had a pirated version of the game. I don't take issue with it but it's simply a reality.

What is the verdict on last gen versions? Worth it or should I wait till I have a next gen console

I'd like to know this as well. I looked up some PS3 footage on youtube and the textures were LOL-worthy, but I'm going to grab it anyway simply because I want to play the game. If I like it enough, I'll re-purchase when I get a PS4 later this year.

The fact that AC3 received 9s and 10s considering how half-baked and broken it was is mind-boggling. It's part of the reason I'm skeptical about Watch_Dogs and most open-world Ubi releases honestly.

Though the praise in here shows some guarded promise.

This may come as a shock, but some people actually enjoy AC3. I know opinions, crazy right.

Am I pointing fingers and laughing at anyone for liking it? I'm just stating why I'm a tad skeptical. I feel more positive about Watch_Dogs than I did a month ago if it's any consolation.

Opinions are fine. But the reviews of the game didn't match those differing opinions, they were consistently, and universally, very positive about the game. The only mentions made of AC3's shortcomings were made a year later, in AC4's reviews, for the sake of comparison.. not in the original AC3 reviews. We'll probably see the same thing here, glowing reviews, and only when WD2 comes out as next-gen exclusive will they finally acknowledge that the first game didn't look so hot.

I just fell off my chair.

Hey I'm not going to turn up my nose at something just because I may have been wrong about it. That said, we'll have an even better idea of how the game is come Tuesday.

I'll happily eat a bowl of crow if that means I get a good game out of the deal.

Just tested this and yep, I get the same message we'd seen before:
I haven't clicked ok and gone back to playing but I'd assume you'd be able to re-unlock them should a player wish to turn it back on later. Your notoriety continually goes up and down though depending on how you perform. If you successfully hack someone for example you'll gain points. Gain enough to reach each milestone and you'll unlock some of the skills like these 2:
but if you get caught/killed or whatever you'll actually lose notoriety points too (likewise if you kill someone I think) and can even lose an unlock that way too if it knocks you below the required amount.
Not sure if the anti-vehicle rounds (the first notoriety unlock) affect the game in single player too or whether it's just multiplayer but some of them do say "online", like the nitro boost as pictured.

Woah. All of your impressions are making me more hyped than the thousands of trailers released of this game. Too bad I'm getting the Wii U version and who knows when is gonna be released :c

I think those perks are just for online, so if you don't want to play online at all, turning it off won't do a damn thing.. you're not losing anything that will affect you.

It means that you're probably either all in or all out. No playing it for a while and then disabling invasions to play some campaign in peace and then jumping back in to it - not without starting from zero every time.

What a crazy system to have in place.

Thanks for checking it out.

Thanks for checking it out.

The only good part is you can't be invaded if you're on a mission.

This is one of the most posted in OT's pre-game release I feel. Thirst for next gen titles is real?

Still debating, right now I'm playing AC4 and loving it, so looking at Watch Dogs compared to it just seems uninspired. Maybe I'll be swayed by reviews... initial impressions seem good enough.

For the multiplayer hacking can you choose to hack specifically friends or is it always a random person? Can I continually tail hack friends when they're online?

I think if I were to give them the benefit of the doubt that they maybe made it this way so that people would not be able to just keep it off all the time and turn it on just to invade someone and then turn it immediately back off. Not saying they couldn't have come up with a better system but I think that may have been the motivation. If everyone kept their invasions off until they wanted to invade someone the system would break down pretty quickly. Overall though if its like someone else suggested and the only abilities it disables are ones that only affect you in multiplayer then I'm fine with it, if you have to do multiplayer stuff to get everything available for use in single player, ME3 style, then I will be annoyed.

I'm getting it on 360. Something is going to have to come out and be jaw dropping before I put down on a Ps4. I'm convinced that will be awhile.
