Damn, the movie was SO good and holds up incredibly well.

The Goonies was such a classic. I never realized how well it stood the test of time.

Andy was so incredibly hot too.

Hey, how about that soundtrack too?

By soundtrack, both Cyndi Lauper and the score itself.



It even spawned a few games that were actually examples of good liscensed games. Goonies II was one of my very first NES games and one of my favorites.

I'm biased since I'm an older poster but the 80s is really the best we have have ever had life.
Enough technology to make life easier, comfortable but not so much that you can disconnect from some form of human to human interaction.
Good music, cars, still a notion of men are men, women are women.
I have been watching 80s movies with my teenage kids and 99% of the time they end up saying "how come I never heard of this movie before dad, that was fantastic"

A Goonies thread?! Hands down, my favorite movie of all time - I legit have watched it hundreds of times. I would come home from school as a kid and rewatch it on VHS everyday like some sort of madchild. This went on for longer than I care to admit, but I still love it, despite how many times I have seen it.

Goonies legit felt like a live action Disneyland ride, especially Pirates of the Caribbean more than the Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Everything was at its peak, before it imploded in the 90ies.

Exactly my experience. Well, I guess every 80ies kids experience.
There were some places where kids met. You just went to there, and when a few kids assembled, they went to another place where the other kids met. Often you'd just meet other kids on the outside walking around.

They really don't or can't make movies like The Goonies anymore.

loved the Goonies so much as a kid. i think i was lucky enough to see this several times in theater back when they had dollar movies during the summer.

last year i went to visit my friend in Portland and we ended up doing a Goonies inspired road trip. we saw Haystack rock. that was pretty cool:

then we drove to Aurora, the town where they lived. Mikey's house is there but they have requested nobody give out their address due to tourists, so it was hard to find. we did get to go to the jail though:

I'm biased since I loved it as a kid and was just the right age for it when it released, but I think it holds up. My son likes it too, which is rare for movies that old. It has just the right mix of comedy and adventure with great performances all around, which is rare with so many child actors.

You are right. This movie is a big yikes. There are generations of kids who have been corrupted by this filth and have wrecked communities because of it. This movie makes so many vulnerable people unsafe.
