WB Remaking Invasion Of The Body Snatchers

Honestly, they just need to find a non-moronic company to put out the 1988 remake on an easily available Blu-ray. That film is seriously great and deserves a much bigger audience than it can enjoy right now.

Yeah Twilight Time's blu ray releases are so bizarre, both The Blob and Fright Night are sadly stuck with an OOP, extremely limited release blu ray by them when a company like Scream Factory would've done both films justice.

See you get it. These film producers running dry on ideas are going about these remakes wrong. If the source material is B or A grade then you're vapid, soulless obvious cash grab isn't going to do shit and is never going to top the original. Aim for cult classic C movies that couldn't possibly get any worse and don't take them so seriously, give them to hungry up and coming directors.

The Wraith
Killer Klowns from Outer Space
The Stuff
Invaders From Mars
The Gate
Ghoulies

Shoot for stuff like that.

I'd pay money to see a Killer Klowns remake.

As others have said, The Invasion sucked.

I'd love to see the pre Wachowski's reshoots version of the film though to see if it's any better, because it sure felt like a movie that got put through some pretty rough reshoots. Tonally it was all over the place, and that happy ending didn't make a lick of sense (or show any remorse for all the people they killed who could have just been cured).

Now really does seem like a good time for it though. Sadly the fears that drive this story never seem too far away.

The last one actually came out 10 years ago:

It sucked.

I only know that this movie exists because WB brought in the Wachowskis and James McTiegue to rewrite and reshoot it...after the previous director had already finished shooting the movie.

I don't know why they want to remake this thing again.

It's themes are easily transferred from one generation to the next.

This is going to be awful.

Also, a new blob movie like the 80s one would be great, that shit is horrifying.

Honestly the only way to up the ante is to make it even more horrifying, long takes of really painful deaths by the Blob until it inevitably gets bigger and we get a ending similar to the original one for Little Shop of Horrors, except the universe is eventually swallowed up by the blob instead of just Earth.

Fun facft, Frank Darabont of the Shawshank Redemption, The Mist and the first season of The Walking Dead was wrote the script to the Blob movie from the 80's

Ha, I just mentioned to someone this seems to get remade on a regular basis and we were just about due for one.

The gore in that film is gnarly as fuck. I'll need to rewatch it.

Its one of the few horror movies from that time period, or really in general, that I can think of that had children being killed by the monster.

in between he also made the 'children-in-peril-western-noir' Cop Car. Its actually really great.
1978 version is incredible. How is Abel Ferrer's? I thought about including it into this year's 31 days of horror.
Fantastic. One of the best studio horror films from the 90's and probably the most underrated.

Stop it, it was fine.

As for the OP, I'm for investment in horror movies wherever I can get it.

Naw, man, it was awful. I get it. Some people gave it credit for the thoughtful ending, but it was still absurd. Millions, maybe billions probably died in the events of the film. Yet were to believe like a month later everything is back to 'normal. And by normal I mean reading the paper about the next way how were going to war with eachother. 70s version was superior in every single way.

I'm a Jeffrey Wright mark, so maybe that clouds my mind on the subject.

When I think of terrible body snatchers style movies, I think of "The Puppet Masters". That is a grade A atrocity.

This is honestly something I wouldn't mind being remade every 10 years. It's fertile ground for reimagining.

Of course, I haven't seen it since it premiered on HBO and got to see Gabrielle Anwar naked in it, but still.
It is without a doubt one of the worst made films I think I've ever seen... But it's still oddly enjoyable. Like a made for TV movie aping the TV version of The Stand.

No one will touch the Sutherland one, it's perfect.

The time in between remakes seems to be getting slightly smaller each time.

Also the last two remakes were different parts of the original title.
