We have ignition (AKA Official Meteos Topic)

Man, the front end is very Smash Bros.-esque. Even the sound style and aesthetic is highly familiar. And some of the score is like a mixutre of Back to the Future meets Smash Bros.

Overall, cool stuff. Still letting the concept marinate though.

The game gets better the longer you play it. I've had the import for four months now, and even after unlocking all the planets and beating all the modes, you learn new tricks and strategies as you go along. I'm going for super-high scores on each of the 32 planets now, as well as the 5-min time trial.

Believe me, if you love the game now, wait until you really get into it in a few months.

Not bad but I had one at 96 meteos at 24 seconds and I was about to hit the last four when a column I was ignoring reached the top. Damn, I love this game.
Your challenge is accepted. Here is my current 100 Meteo top three, heh:

Jesus tittyfucking Christ! How? Just...how?

I've heard of people getting 13-15 second scores on that challenge and I didn't believe it. I've done it in 26 and I thought that was great :lol

One of the major sites called the music terrible and said you should turn it off. Whoever that was (Klepak @ 1up, I see) should be ashamed of his terrible taste in game music :P

Shao, regarding that video, the answers are no and yes :D

Man, the whole not having anyone to play DS games against is starting to get old. I have this, I have Bomberman, I have Yoshi. Never played ONE multiplayer DS match (E3 was all about multiplayer Lumines, when we had time for anything).

Where can a 20 year old freelance writer who works from home find people for DS action? :(

There's something very funny here. I'll let someone else point it out though.

Transferred a demo to my DS using a PC, but I don't think I understood what was going on. As far as I could see, it was like other "three in a row" puzzlers, but movement could only be made vertically, clears created explosions, and you'd want to push pieces over the top. What makes this stand out?

Wow, that's a great geekgasm combo. I'm enough of a BTTF whore I almost bought the Universal Studios game.

You'd better believe it.... don't you unlock something for getting 10 seconds or less?

My copies sleep mode is screwy as hell suddenly.

It started when I sent the Meteos demo to my brothers DS because I was really into playing the actual game at the time. A minute later I put the game down and closed it expecting it to go into sleep mode. It didnt however, instead the screen started flashing a bunch and the speakers started going on and off quickly. I opened it up and it played fine, but put it back into sleep and the same thing would happen.

I powered down and started it back up. I closed it and the sleep mode seemed okay this time. I open it back up and my game starts making static sounds and it ends up being frozen. I repeat this and it has happened a couple more times.

I am not happy. :(

Bleh, people misspell my last name, too. Deal :P

(Sorry, though)

Now that you're here, though, WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE MUSIC?

It's just boring as hell. I really think it has more to do with limitations within the DS. The same guy that handled the music for Lumines did Meteos, and I dunno...WTF. I kept waiting for it to grow on me, but that hasn't happened yet.

Meteos is good, I like it

Definitely fast, I'm a bit slow at the moment so I was like wtf wtf wtf looking for connections to use. I also keep trying to move blocks horizontal :(

Music definitely is not a strong point, I haven't heard Lumines but I bet it's better.

But I like it. And you should too.

Meteos music is what practically sold me, as I was cold at first. But the meaty explosions and jingles seemed really satisfying and addictive rather than hypnotic ala Lumines. More adrenaline fueled, which is what I expected Lumines to be.

I came here just to see what people were saying about the game. I will have to get this tomorrow. I loved Lumines and hope this will be a great one too. I just played the Flash version and it seemed really fun. So off I go tomorrow to pick it up.

Jeljel?!

Seriously, I'd agree on a number of the planets' themes. Except that, well, during gameplay all the sound effects key into the music, with blissfully pulse-quickening results. It's all so damn synergistic, heh. Without the background music, the sonic picture just isn't as impressive.

Awesome game finally got it today and I'm hooked although I must admit I'm getting my ass kick I hate the bubble planet with a passion.

The music is awesome I like the water planet music a lot especially when the tempo picks up and you know shit is coming I also like how when you launch the meteos they create different sounds which when mixed with the music makes up for a cool experience sound wise the games has lots and lots of modes and all sort of things to unlock. I know I'll be playing this game for a long time 30 dollars well spent.

Meteos owns me :)

What a fun little game. I had no idea how to play and quickly adapted to it. I like the extra play modes and the fusion stuff is a nice touch.

Well, uh, yeah. Anyone else gotten the Galactic Fork ending in the tree version of star trip? Talk about your OMGWTFBBQ.

:lol - I got this last night on my way home from work.

This game is quickly becoming my new commuter crack - first was MG Acid, then Lumines, now this.

Third from the bottom, for those who've not seen that one yet.

Easily the strangest ending I've seen in a game in a long time. Mizoguchi must really enjoy steak.

I can't beat 3 CPUs with 2 Difficultt in Simple Mode. Yeah, I know I stink. But when I beat the single player game for the first time in an hour I was shocked. Then I remembered it was like Smash Brothers. Now all is good.

Two planets at war. One planet attacks by hurling large chunks of rock through space at the other. Where have I heard that before? Hmmm.... Starship Troopers!!!

I can officially say this is better than Lumines, and Lumines was great. This is an amazingly fun friggin' game.

Man, Kirby, Bomberman, then Meteos, and Nanostray soon. I'm being spoiled with quality.

But yeah, this game is awesome. I really hope it sells good at least for a puzzle game.

One Question:

Wtf determines when you complete a planet? Do those meters at the begining of each planet signify how many meteos of each type you have to ignite to clear the planet (like the little animal icons in zookeeper?)

It's amazing, really: I can see myself getting better as I'm playing this game. The amount of satisfaction from blasting off a full board of meteos is unequaled. :D

And god I LOVE the main menu music. Holy SHIT is it good.

Don't forget Pac 'N Roll & Advance Wars: Dual Strike (and Nintendogs, if you want it) in August! :D

I love the music and sounds, though it's nowhere in Lumines league in that respect. Or visually. I'm totally addicted to the game though, it's my favorite DS game yet (and I like Kirby a lot). I think it might be more fun to play than Lumines though it's not as impressive on any other level.

Look to the left side and you'll see a sillhouette of falling blocks.

Then what's the point of the meters at the beginning of each planet?

That show how common each type is?

Useful info if you're trying to stockpile a certain meteos type in order to unlock something...

BTW, the thing on the left side is your CPU opponent... the meteos you send away land on his board... if you see it filling up, you're close to winning. In games without opponents, you play until a stack hits the top. If you have multiple opponents, you can target specific ones by tapping their board/meter/icon thingy with the stylus.

I'm glad the multiplayer unlockables can be unlocked through normal gameplay, too. Just fused Jeljel.

Planet Meteos here I come...

Well, just got my copy via courier today along with Kirby, much earlier than expected (thanks Tronix).

I'm loving it so far, I've just played through each of the different Star Trip modes and tried out the Simple mode. I'm overwhelmed a little by the amount of stuff to unlock but that's great, I'm looking forward to getting the Meteos needed to unlock everything. :)

Wow, this game really grew on me. I was so confused the first couple of days, and now I can't stop playing. The game seems so simple at first, but once you get into it, it's incrdibly deep. the planet physics, different combo methods, items and deciding whether to use them or send them to oponenets, and all the unlockables. So much in one little game.

This is my new favorite DS title, I just wish i had someone to play versus against... :(

I think the music is good and acknowledges what some early game makers understood: Sound effects can be part of the song. I've unlocked more than a few sound sets and all the sounds are set up in short loops that vary depending on gameplay, along with themed sound effects. So it's not one single track, but multiple sounds creating music. Some planets are certainly stronger than other in their sound selection/theme though.

Argh! The two rarest metals
Time and Soul
are way TOO rare.

I've fused everything I can fuse that doesn't require those bad boys. I know that the point is that they're supposed to be incredibly hard to get, but when my amounts of everything else are building up while I'm waiting for ONE of those to fuse something, then something isn't right. It should be closer to a 500/1 ratio instead of the 1500/1 it seems to be :/

Damn, good job. I thought my 30 was good, oh well. Maybe I should stop trying to play the 100 Meteos war for real and just use the scribble + time speed method.

Anyway, I just got a whole bunch of Time Meteos. Used it to fuse 4 sound sets. The game is great and everytime I turn it off, it calls me back again. :lol

The music is great, very dynamic and fits the game very well. They've done an excellent job fusing it into the gameplay. The Mekks and Firim sets are probably my favorite. The Mekks set is Famicomic. :lol Some of the themes are stronger than the others but they all work rather well. The Anasaze main theme is good but the horse sounds really get on my nerves.

Also, I like how you can switch the camera in the top screen to see your enemies playing fields. This is good because it also changes who you are attacking so you can swtich strategies on the fly. This game has lots of depth that is not instantly seen.

I have a tip for you:
The end credits game.

Yes, and also, like IronClad hinted above, you can tap the camera icon above the "Accelerator" to switch the top screen display. You can then cycle between the opponent's views to see when they're in trouble.

Yeah, I got like 4 Time and 1 Soul just from one go at it. I've played it multiple times and these rare metals show up much more often there. It's rather difficult to get them up there though. My trick is just to hold either L/R or just tap the area to speed up time. Then, you can get a whole bunch of chains going and have a better chance of getting a Time/Soul Meteos up past the screen.

I dunno, I seem to get 1 or 2 each per play in simple mode. Megadon seems to yield time meteos and Florias seems good for soul, for example. Hevendor has also been giving me both time and soul off and on... nice bonus in that it's probably the easiest planet to launch from.
